dude the entire Capre Diem part is about one of his teachers telling him that life may not always be the same so dont live with regret. Hed had a fight with his mom about a week earlier and he apoligized the night before she left on a trip and died in a plane crash. thats what that whole part is about. The song the best of times is about his father dieing of old age and him recalling the memories
