@Arfat that or, they can't tell relative pitch because maybe to their electronic keyboard he's flat, but according to the instruments in this recording, he's right on pitch.
Stop arguing ! Gedda, pavarotti, kauffmann, kraus, wunderlich, corelli, bjorlig, caruso thill, etccc ALL awesome singers !!!! Just Enjoy There are no "best", but only wonderful singers
"Best" is up to individual opinion, and if someone likes one more than another, they have just as much right to say that, as you have the right to lie and say that you think they are all the same level.
could be the recording, but he does sound out of tune...almost a 1/4 pitch under all the way, sometimes worse. Ibet the rpm on the player is not quite "right"
At certain points in the composition he is behind a bit. I actually have a studio version of this by Gedda and it is perfect; one of my favourite chill-out songs.
no other instrument in the classical repertoire attracts such an array of armchair critics as the human voice, to the obliteration of sharing an enjoyment of the art, in particular the *composition* itself ... why?
This is beautifully sung, by a tenor who could sometimes be a bit 'bull in a china shop'. But he is really wonderful here...controlled, restrained, and expressive, as the piece deserves. We can hear Gedda's soul here.
I think your comments sound like someone who is over-reacting. I said many wonderful things about Gedda's singing here, which you have completely ignored. You are obsessing on one thing, like you cannot take any criticism of this singer. That sounds arrogant to me.
Is there any recording of Kraus singing mezza voce higher than high A?I have several live recordings of Gedda singing high C's and high D-flat's in mezza voce could Kraus archive such things?
@cer1n ...woah, Kraus belted??? He had one the most perfectly balanced mixed voices that has ever lived apart from maybe Miguel Fleta. Totally different color choices and voices, and Kraus notes were extremely resonant but not shouty. Just trying to clear up any confusion about his voice. Kraus sang at 70 too and very very well like Gedda.
What an amazing musician Gedda was. The amount of recordings he made is astounding. He spoke so many languages fluently and sand everything so well. A wonderful amazing artist.
No, it's only a bit out of tune occasionally. There are so many examples of real out-of-tune singing on Youtube, why don't you go find them and comment?
He was the best "French" tenor of his time (although really Swedish). Check out his recordings of Werther (with De Los Angeles) and Manon (with Sills). He was also excellent in Mozart, Bel Canto, and German operetta. My personal favorite tenor.
Bravissimo!!! e un maestro ilustre e caro!!!! Bravooo!!!

Aria IDEAL para Gedda. Ideal aria for Gedda.

people who say that this is off pitch can't tell the difference between having a lot of low undertones (rich voice) and being flat.

"1/4 pitch under"... Stop show off. Enjoy !
People always have to say something to show they're pro... while the pro don't argue but ...just play.

y du think? Because it's easy and anyone who's done a bit of singing has an opinion --even if wrong. :p

RossiniSoprano was busy singing performances of Lucia di Lammermoor this weekend. What were you doing?

to RossiniSoprano:
Gedda "a bull in a china shop" ???
WTH???
If you know of a more elegant and brilliant singer PLEASE let us know!
arashk83 3 years ago 4
I said he could "sometimes" be a bull in a china shop, didn't I?
A more elegant singer? Alfredo Kraus, for one.
RossiniSoprano 3 years ago
Gedda is NEVER a bull in a china shop, your comment sounds really arrogant.
I don't think Kraus is more elegant than Gedda, they're both great artists and two of the greatest tenors of the 2-nd half of the 20th century.

Don't get me wrong I love Kraus. But he always belted the pearl fisher aria while Gedda used to sing the high C in mezza voce even at age 70 .

Ignorance.
