No, you can shoot him. He just dodges your bulets most of the time. It's easier to just knife him.

@ windows987654321 the Red9 is simply a repurposed Mauser C96 (which fired a 7.62mm pistol round) that the Germans refitted in the 1910s to fire the 9mm Parabellum round. To tell the two apart they carved a big red 9 in the handle to show which kind of ammunition the pistol used. So the Red9 in RE4 is a 9mm handgun of German origin. You may be thinking of the Chinese variant that fires the .45 ACP round (I think that handgun is called the Type 17 pistol or something like that).

Thanks a million for the videos. I owned this game a while back, but was really bad at it. A couple weeks back, I bought it again, and managed to beat it. I had a hard time on Krauser, and since I'm about to fight him again on my second playthrough, I decided to refresh my memory on how you did it. Now I see what I was doing wrong at that last part. I have to hand it to you man, you have skill. I was having so much trouble trying to beat Krauser on pro mode and then I came upon your video. The method you used is wayyyy easier, yet I still died a bit before I could knife him to death. I have much to learn -- awesome Res 4 video!

So that's why you only used your knife. It's fitting, really, and I'm sure that's the way the developers intended, since that first fight was purely with knives. Besides, since the two of them have a history, what better way to settle this than to use a visceral weapon like a knife?
