I'm enjoying the comments. Actually, very many officers would handle this situation this way. I know I do. Had the driver tried to shove the weed under the seat, or any other similar gesture that might have made the officer think he was going for a weapon, this would have gone a whole other way right from the start. It's simple, really; be polite and as honest (unless you've got your murder victim in the trunk) as you can be with the officer , and thing should go pretty well for you.

They all have a culture where they rely on other cops for solace while prejudging most members of the public ie femails and people of color as "suspects" 24/7. I find the 'attitude' most people mention comes from something they do. Now, at no point did I ever say there are no crooked cops. But it depends on your location - the average officer is at worst just trying to make a living, and at best a good guy.
