thats true but i also lived in Europa for a year. In Germany people do that. The church, ebay sellers they basically give the Bank acct information and you transfer it to the peoples account. I was laughing my ass off when my friend in Germany bought something and had to transfer funds. Thats how they do it over there. BUT you should have said. we do not do that here. pay me via paypal or western union LOL very funny you are so right.

Also there is nothing wrong with giving out your account number. A lot of businesses use direct money transfers from bank to bank. It is not like giving out pin numbers etc.

Most of these scams come from Nigeria and target people who are trying EBay or Craigslist for the first time. EBay doesnt care because they get their fees either way. If the US Gvnt would impose economic sanctions on Nigeria (we give them so much free money) they would crack down on these scams Nigeria has become known for. These scammers make $100,000 a WEEK off people ... Millions each year! Internet scam crime would be the richest company in the world if it was a corporation.

Scammers are good for nothing cowards. Today some Nigerian scammer tried to buy my Laptop on Ebay for an outrageous price. Like I would send my item to NIGERIA without being paid first XD. They even tried to make it seem like they were sending me the money, showing a FAKE email from Paypal saying that the money was in pending until I sent the computer overseas. Ok scammers, that is just ridiculous XD

Bank wire transfer is favorable and disireable for the SELLER.

A bank transfer cannot be reversed (unlike PayPal) without the express consent of the account holder.

In Europe bank transfers are used very often.

Besides - the seller has 0 liability (FCC mandated law regarding ANY electronic payments) in case of unauthorized transfers from your ACCOUNT - covers credit cards, bank accounts, ATM, etc..

You can validate this info with your bank.

Here's an email from an Ebay scammer. This came to my hotmail account because he assumed my hotmail username was the same as my ebay username. He was correct and that was my bad. So, I pretended not to be angry and promised to help him. I'm also including the email addy in which we corresponded. He wanted me to use Western Union. I only use Paypal and I only trust mail I receive on my ebay account, not my hotmail

I had the same problem with China. I dont post it directly on my auctions that I wont sell to specific countries...will make me look bad. Instead, if I post a note on payments that says: I only accept paypal from countries other than US and Canada. It works...so far.

I can't see why you did not give your bank account details unless the US system is less safe than ours. Before money can be transferred out passwords and security questions are required here. So if he was genuine then he might have paid.

Never ever give any persoonal information to anybody unless its the govt. Scammers can print false letters from this guy with his bank account and ask other people to write checks to this name, open a similar account in Turkey and so on. Impersonation for fraud is very common.
