  • I grew up listening to johnny cash with my granddad and im 15 LOL seems a bit young to be listening to him, but i like him.

  • @XflowerblahblahX ha im 16 and my ipod is full of johny cash songs

  • This is the reason he is so famous going against the norm. Good video!

  • i would want to be a prisoner if i got to see Johnny live

  • I would've liked to have seen Johnny Cash and Shel Silverstein when they wrote this.

  • Probably my favorite Cash song of all. When you think about it, this is actually a rap song in a lot of ways. Johnny wasn't even supposed to do this song and threw it in at the last minute, he didn't even know the song well enough, look closely he's reading the words off the lyric sheet and barely sings it. Carl Perkins is right next to Johnny, his smile tells you how special this song is gonna be, it was the only version he ever recorded..

  • Sue doesn't see the funny of this video

  • It's real, it's a classic, and yes they could smoke in prison back then, it was no big deal.....That was when you could do your time and keep to yourself, now it's just a bunch of gangs and gang-wanna-bees that make it hard to do your time if you made a mistake in life...Put all the gangs in Hagerstown, Md. MCTC and let them kill each other....You could not even have a concert in that jail now from a local or regional performer....I played there in 1992. It was safe then. I love you Johnny.

  • one asshole likes lil' wayne

  • Whoever disliked this....SUCKS!! Plus this song reminds me of my grandpa!!

  • How are these people in prison smoking...?

  • @702balla its 1968

  • fucking like!

  • This song always makes me laugh and smile, it's such a great performance!

  • It makes worthwhile to be a prisoner just to watch this amazing man!

  • WOW zero dislikes :)

  • its in jail ?

  • @Mr1974gjb

San Quentin is a Prison, so yes.

  • stop showing the audience. Cash is the legend not them! lol

  • Legend has that singer Merle Haggard was in the audience as a "resident" for this 1968 performance...

  • @50Emerald Actually at the time of this 1969 (not 68) performance, Merle Haggard was already a country music star. He was doing time in San Quentin when Johnny Cash did his first concert there back in 1958. He was deeply moved by the experience, and when he was later paroled (by then Governor Ronald Reagan) he vowed to his prison mates that he'd return someday and give them a show just like Johnny Cash did. Little did they know that he would go on to become the giant that he did in music.

  • Boy the complexion of prisons has changed in the past fifty years

  • Awsome audiance

    looks like a great concert

  • @AdvHacker Makes me wish I could have been lucky enough to see this great legend in live concert for myself. RIP Cash!

  • thumbs up if you hate people not reading descriptions

  • Wonderful video, man!

  • where is this?

  • @rachelsquire22 live from San Quentin Jail 1968

  • he's a legend!
