There is one exception, I think it's Getting better. A day in the life is sung by John and Paul, you can easily identify the two parts. Penny Lane is one of Paul's masterpieces.

I was at this concert and it was great!! Speaking of pitch, Paul raised the key of this song a half step higher to C modulating to B flat for live performances instead of the original recording key of B modulating to A. (Fewer black notes and easier for keyboardists, Wix and LInda perhaps? )I though Paul sounded great considering this was the last concert of his Americam tour and the temperature in Charlotte that day was 100 degrees with 100% humidity!!

I think McCartney was the more talented composer - as a melodist and arranger - whilst Lennon led the push for more complex lyrics [from about Help-Rubber Soul]. McCartney took on greater responsibility for the Beatles' musical direction from about 1966, leading into conceiving Sgt Pepper and experimenting with new sounds and possibilities for 'rock'. That said, Lennon was a great composer too.
