What you are seeing there is the reflection of the camera lens due to the angle of the sun at the time you are watching, try watching it about 4 to 8 hours apart and you will see a beautiful globe or quarter globe of our live earth view. But at certain times when the sun is facing into the camera you know you are going to get a glare.

We have dish network too and watching dish earth is pretty cool sometimes. This girl is dumb to think it's some big deal that the shaded part of the planet looks odd. I'll watch it every now and then to see if maybe an alien mother ship is about to invade our planet but I've yet to see anything unusual.
