Melbournes version of Bicing looks overly complicated and expensive In terms of buying the bikes and setting up the parking stations. Barcelona has invested a lot on simple bicing stations and simple but effective bikes, on dedicated bike lanes with barriers so cars can't enter without damaging their wheels. I feel a lot safer riding a bike in Barcelona and I doubt helmets are to blame but Melbournes soft approach. Melb needs to learn lessons from Bcn approach and go all in.
excellent video, but I think in London & other citys like London one as to wear cycle helmets are not just for a crash but eliments as a stone been flicked up, a fall of the bike etc. little bumps which could become big if one doesn't wear helmets , Yes the car driver as to watch out for cyclist (I do when I drive), also (some) cyclist need to learn the code of the road etc.
