All i ever see is black in the pictures looking away from Earth. Can they see stars and other galaxys from up there? Like the space walks, I don't remember seeing anything but black..

Of course they see stars, but only on the night side of course.

For some reason, people think they can see stars just because they are in space. Further, 'viewers' of nasatv will never see actual stars sicne the cams are not high enough resolution for such faint light...and they are no good at night anyway.

@southernsky & goblinsoul, The Japanese have brewed beer from barley grown on the ISS. I'm sure the russians have snuck some vodka up there for special occasions.

Can astronauts drink alcohol in reasonable ammounts aboard the ISS? I read that alcohol was allowed aboard the MIR station. I'm very curious about possibilities of conducting a fermentation process in zero G (like exeperiment - homemade wine from space)
