Without reading the blog I shouldn't be commenting but one thing I'd like to comment on is the very gentle agitation you provide this system. For a similar balloon pressure, atm T, reduction of double bond (allylic, cinnamic alcohol) the difference in reaction time between gentle stirring and fast shaking can be from overnight to twenty minutes. I've employed small paint shakers to really get it frothing in there.
@JEGGinSD pd/c can be removed by filtration through celite and concentrated. Sometimes further purification is required if some side products are formed. I have mentioned about the workup in my blog (check out the link at the right -description section). I hope it will be helpful for you.
@Robertkotopoulakis...you can just take out the balloon and check the tlc

I have one question yet. Is there any way of knowing when the reaction is completed?

I think the solvent should not be added first, because under the vacuum it will be vapered into the pumb.

Thank you for posting this video. Would you car to comment about the work-up of this type of reaction(s)?

if you make your own hydrogen wouldnt it contain oxygen aswell? or do you have h2 on its own from compressed?
hhohydrogen 2 years ago
H2 from cylinder was transferred to balloon and attached to the upper end as shown in demo..
Check out the link at the description for details

whats the catalyst?
hhohydrogen 2 years ago
pd/C was used as catalyst in demonstrated video..

so it works without any heat?
hhohydrogen 2 years ago
actually that depends upon your compound...simple alkene reduction or deprotection works fine without heat...

ok, cool

I really appreciate for your efforts for the demo. Hope those have'nt carried out the reaction will follow...
