  • This song is like a glass of condensation-filled ice water on a glowing, solid gold table in the middle of the desert.

  • The essence and purity of flowing rythem and music. Without advertising, it transports the listener to.... class. Getz and Byrd blended a soothing yet vibrant combination of music that makes your spirit dance.

  • ...........just imagine a war going on behind the song - black and white, no other sound, slow motion.. or a sunny day and u're on your way to meet your lover or a Saturday evening with friends at home just when they arrive.. love it! LOVE IT!

  • I must have played this song about 500 times in the past 6 months.. I listen to it when I wake up, on my way to work, at work, on my way back home, at home, on my way to the city, before I go to bed, I play it at least 5 times at every I go to. I listen to it when I'm angry, when I m happy, When I m sad, whenever.. It s gotta be my fav obsession.. It just goes with anything, anytime..

  • This sounds just like One Note Samba! Ok I'm kidding don't get angry. lol

  • YES_MAN.

  • Yes, it's Stan Getz but it's also CHARLIE BYRD!!! Sadly, his contribution is usually an afterthought when peeps (who don't really know too much about samba OR jazz) think of this album...

This album is as much Charlie Byrd as it is Stan the Man!

I have my copy but my father (who introduced me to it so many years ago) has THREE copies on vinyl, all in IMMACULATE condition. LOL! Such a slammin' album!

Anyway, if you dig this then look up Charlie Byrd's samba recordings; you'll dig!

  • @djfakt

    Who's on bass here?

He or she is fantastic, too!

  • @TheReturnOfStephan1, The bass player is Keter Betts. One of the best in his time.

  • @blackchow95 TY.:)

  • @djfakt I've been a big fan Charlie Byrd since 1961. I think Charlie may have recorded more Bossa Nova than Stan did. My favorite Bossa album is his "Bossa Nova Pelos Passaros" ("Bossa Nova By The Birds") There are a couple of tracks at watch?v=hCY9V9HqJDQ. I know you are aware of it but I think some others may enjoy.

  • this is sexy

  • Comment removed

  • really getting into this Bossa Nova music or whatever it's called. I'll settle for good.

  • NOT Charlie Byrd and Stan Getz. It's Stan Getz, Antonio Carlos Jombin and Joao Gilberto.

  • @doucheymcdoucheawitz You fcking clown, it most certainly IS Charlie Byrd on this album...Know before you speak, chump. I've grown up with multiple copies of this album...Fcking punk.

  • What a treat!!!

  • @Thekingofpop1958 hey, thanks!

    Stan Getz it's just amazing

  • @Thekingofpop1958 he playd alto sax? or tenor?

  • @sopalcachofa Stan mainly played tenor sax, including here. I believe there is at least one recording where he played Baritone sax, and I've read he could play alto and Soprano too, but as far as I know (and I'm no expert) 99% of his recordings he plays tenor.

  • Beautiful versions of this song

  • DANCING IN MY SEAT!!! HOT!!!

  • Stan Getz popularized Bossa Nova in Jazz, and for this I am grateful. He brought this amazing Brazilian musical movement to the States.

    WOE IS ME!!!

  • Words cannot say what this song means to me. When I am working my heart away so that somebody else can gain material wealth; this helps me remember why I am doing it... It's not the destination, but the dance that got you there, that counts. nobody can take this song from me; no matter how good or bad it gets. This song makes me feel better every time that I hear it.

  • it makes me feel good in the morrning

  • "Simplicity Is The Ultimate Sophistication" Leonardo di Vinci

  • @ZenitYerkes you know what you're talking about....

  • @ZenitYerkes you know what you're talking about....

  • @ZenitYerkes you know what you're talking about....

  • one note samba XXXXXXXXXXXXX

  • This is the exact type of music I enjoy listening in the morning to start my day :)

  • Typical Jazz musicians. Just because a guitarist doesn't play five thousand notes a second doesn't make it bad. It totally fits with the music. A Pat Metheny "burn it up" solo would ruin this and I could no longer make love with it on in the background. No wonder so many jazz musicians are starving.

And Stan Getz is my hero! :D

  • chill man

  • This is like melted butter, soo smooth. And the drummer !!OMG!! his brush work is flawless and very soothing, kind of like a really good massage. love it...

  • Love this!! Bossa Nova rules! What a seductive genre of music. My father used to play this on his reel-to-reel, which was my first exposure to Bossa Nova. Now I play it all the time.

  • i give credit more to the bass player hes following the melody pretty well too...

  • I think the guitarist is Charlie Byrd.

  • Cuando nos rodeaba la buena musica...

  • The guitarrist is NASTY!!!!..Does anybody now he's name?

  • sorry!!!! i ment know

  • charlie byrd

this was on jazz samba which was by stan getz and charlie byrd

  • charlie byrd for sure.

  • @astronomicato The guitarist is Charlie Byrd. This is off Getz' first bossa nova album recorded in 1962 or 1963.

  • Saudade....... Lovely !

  • Stan com nossa bossa nova...fica demais..combinação perfeita!!!!

  • dreamy

  • This is so cute and sassy. I love it.

    Powerful Minds of Women

  • hi, I would like to know in which slbum is this song included, cuz i'd lke to have it in a better quality. thanks

  • it is on stan getz charlie byrd "jazz samba" face 2 song 1

  • Like a massage to your soul...thank you Stan, for your art! God bless you.

  • MARECK1937 oui Mareck je suis d'accord avec vous, n'oubliez pas la boisson fraîche ... une jeune mamie de 48 ans ! :-))

  • come on it's unreal - cool, blazingly sublime and then he has to get serious with the speed traps and altissimo notes. I loved him then and love him now. I practice daily and hope to find some guys that like this music.

  • getz never played altissimo. he sometimes played a high fis, but never above that.

  • 1:53 speed licks - tasty

2:13 altissimo note to end the lick

Try to play that note with any high F key. Good Luck.

  • of course, sometimes used altissimo. stan was the most capable sax player ever, but never was very fond in altissimo, so he almost never used it.

  • I agree it was very rare and that's what made it so good. Stan is just so tasty even when he noodling. I am a forever fan and can only attempt to play like he does. I forgot to say I do play tenor and love my Selmer MK VI (1965 model). Keep listening.

  • Don't worry buddy. There are millions of people who have enjoyed these albums with the great Stan Getz. I've been playing this tune recently.

  • it is great mucisc, but im dont agree with the comment you staed about this being REAL music. every gendre is REAL music to me; its a rythem

  • Beautiful music for those who really know what real beautiful music is. Great sound, great Bossa Nova music!

  • Quelle musique merveilleuse et agréable!! à écouter les doigts de pied en éventail !!! un Papi "French" de 72 ans

  • It's SICK!!

Amazingly great and then Charlie comes in half way through and makes it even better!!

Makes me wanna drink a pina colada and burn a fatty on a beach ;-)

  • Wow! I didn't hear this song in a version so relaxed as this one!

the songtext is also great, you all should see it.

  • Samba de uma nota só

  • Interesante, en lo comenzando el no toco la cabeza de la cancion.

  • Lovely, sinuous and sublime!

  • Such a lovely tune.

Stan Getz has the best ever tone I've ever heard come from a sax.

  • beautiful sound

  • Este vídeo é maravilhoso ... ouvi-lo na Itália, e é tão lindo para passar as fronteiras ... obrigado a todos!

  • I'm so proud to be brazilian!

A country with many beauties. Nice song!!

  • obviously you haven't been recently

  • I'm american! but yeah im actually kinda surprised he knew where brazil was..

  • husky voice

  • Man!! This is the coolest!!!! Glad to see I'm not the only one that likes this. The chord rhythm intro by Charlie Byrd..... and then Stan comes in flowing like the coolest breeze you ever heard. Such grace and elegance it overwhelms and just blows me away.

  • You said it so beautifully and perfectly.

  • It's not a Stan Getz song, it's a Tom Jobim song.

  • who said it's a stan getz song?

  • Stan Getz performs the song on this recording but it was composed by someone else.

  • and Sonny Rollins

  • Stan Getz is my favorite with Paul Gonsalvez
