  • good way of putting it!

  • Hi David,

Most of the other false cognates you've mentioned are very familiar to me: pretend, preservative ( hahaha).

Annoitato is new to me ! Wow !

    Ciao !

  • Hi Steve!

I already knew these things, but I find your online classes very interesting..thanks a lot for your help.

    I'm an Italian guy...

another word which is very confusing for us (I always made mistakes with it) is the English verb "to pretend".

In Italian: pretendere = to claim, to require.

In English it has a totally different meaning.

    Something else:

annoyed (annoitato) in Italian means bored

    And be careful with this:

"preservative" in Italian is a condom ;-)

  • hahahahaha so sensible means sensitive then? woooow thats probably really confusing....very interesting.

  • I was focussing on the main ones. I know I left out a few. For sure I will add Romanian and of course Italian to the list!

    Steve

  • you say latin languages : french , portuguese and spanish , but there are 4 !! Romanian is a latin language also

  • Romanian is also an latin language...and it has the same problem with "false friends" :).....very interesting..

  • wonderful,thank you so much.
