Fab has endured a lot of scrutiny these days because of the whole lip sync incident, even though Jessica Simpson gets away with it all the time. I guess entertainment worked differently back then. These days, as long as you look good on the outside, everyone will forgive you for being rotten to the core.

@c9593 Because part of what irked so many Americans at the time about Milli Vanilli was Rob & Fab's celebrity. It's always the easiest to scapegoat the guys in front rather than the producer or the record label, as Farian continued to have successful acts in the 1990's here with La Bouche & No Mercy. Plus, plenty Americans hated Milli from the start because they hate Eurodance music & were annoyed by their success & when the truth came out, they had a field day with branding Rob & Fab as a joke.

The producer had essentially conned the two into signing a recording contract, not telling them until it had already been signed that their purpose was solely to lip-sync and have them be used for their exotic looks. The only reason Milli Vanilli was exposed as lip-synchers because Rob & Fab wanted to sing for real and pushed the producer to tell the press.

Listen, the Milli Vanilli act was great, the songs were a lot better than this and the fake voices were a lot better too. You wanna sympathize with them that's fine, but don't compare Rob and Fab to Milli Vanilli, I grew up during the Milli Vanilli days and they were at the top of the music world, you could go to the farthest corners of the planet and people knew who Milli Vanilli were. Rob and Fab was awful and the record sales prove it--no one is mad at them, it's just the way it will be.

It's not horrible. If it was on Top 40 radio today, it would be a hit. To be fair, Fabrice (who's doing the "lead" singing in this video) really does have a good voice. This video was made over 15 years ago when his accent was still pretty thick. He's not a bad singer, the dialect just comes through in this one. If you notice, Rob only does backing vocals because his German accent was so thick you could hardly understand him.

This sounds more like it's 'not-their-voices' than the Milli Vanilli voices. I think it might just be a matter of not being used to these 'new' voices, but I think this sound too much like other 'boy band' voices, while the Milli Vanilli had a deeper 'macho' voice.
