  • okie from muskogee by merle haggard,gijoe989.

  • Singing about being respectful, waving Ole' Glory, not doing drugs, and not being lazy. That is why country music is so great. It is a good thing lots of people work so hard, because all of those hippies are still waiting for welfare checks even today.

  • @ofnir7757 You realize the song is entirely tongue in cheek, right? He is doing what the British call 'taking the piss', which is defined thus: "The term sometimes refers to a form of mockery in which the mocker exaggerates the other person's characteristics; pretending to take on his or her attitudes, etc., in order to make them look funny."

  • @ofnir7757 it was a parody song you dope. you think merle did not do these things? that was the point it was an fu to these people. a goof.

  • love song voy a echar un toque

  • I do smoke marihuana in muskogee... But the song rocks!!

  • best song to listen to high

  • i rember when i was a kid playing in the liveing room at home when i was a kid hearing this on a album being play'd on the house stero, and i still enjoy great old country songs like this to this day. songs like this never go out of style, they are like a fine wine they get better with time and age.

  • Thanks for uploading this. Until now, all I could find was the studio version of this song, which is not nearly as good as this one.

  • The fall of an empire.Too bad were such jerks!

  • 331 people have been to Muskogee and 17 are too stoned to find it.

  • A marvel of a song. Simply incomparable. I have been listening to it since 1985, and still get the goosebumps each time I listen to it.

  • This is one of the few songs that is better live.

  • it is tongue in cheek

he was not even from muskogee and he got stoned at this time [he quit later] it is a song

  • @benanddaisyandtigger it's a shame hardly anyone knows that

  • A true classic thanks for the post

  • cool, this is the same version they used in "Platoon"

  • This is indeed the best version.

  • red neck noise dude thats all it is makes about as much sense as you do all them chucks rappin about how they losin there hoes aint got no bread Fuck that honkey shit get me sum motown jams ya dig it?

  • @able506 PLATOOON favorite war movie ever

  • @able506 Sorry man, but I can't understand a word you just typed. But if you don't like it, listen to your rap.

  • @northeastcouirlntryg come on buddy have a sense of humour youve obviously never seen platoon

  • @able506 umm at lest you can understand what hes saying ?

  • @ZackAttack261 once again obvious joke have you ever even listened to motown?

  • @able506 yeah i kinda figured that and no lol

  • I have two songs on my Ipod, this, and America Fuck Yeah

  • another good one

  • You never understand this song completely until you smoke weed. Stoner country music ftw.

  • That, and this song is satirical.

  • fuck this guy. what a pussy.

  • @MrRevolder i hope your joking

  • @xatblasterx

    No I'm not.

This guy was pro-nam and anti-hippie culture.

    What a fag.

  • @MrRevolder then my words to you are fuck off for putting down a big name in country music. and then why did you look up this song if you don't like it dip shit

  • @MrRevolder He just thought that the sentiments towards the soldiers were unnecessary. The soldiers were treated like shit during and after the war. It's the reason why there's such a stigma on the term "Vietnam veteran". It wasn't so much as that he was anti-hippie, it was that he felt that a lot of the hippie youth were blaming the wrong people. You can't just end a war by putting your gun down, it doesn't work that way. To end war is to use diplomacy, and diplomacy wasn't exactly keen then.

  • @MrRevolder fuck the hippies

  • @kjm0227 no, fuck you

  • @mistaspot1 lol settle down, he's not anti-hippie, him and willie nelson have probably smoked more weed than all the hippies combined.

  • @kjm0227 no just willie

  • @MrRevolder Fuck him because he ain't a long haired asshole who gets high like a fucking pussy who needs weed cause he doesn't have anything better to do? Fuck you, fuck your long hair, and fuck your weed.

  • @MrRevolder how is this guy a pussy . Your fucking pussy for discriminating him for what he believe in.

At lest he was a asset to society. Unlike the lazy piece of shit hippies who sat around and got high and gladly ACCEPTED welfare without making an effort at getting a real job.

  • @ZackAttack261 damn right

  • God bless Canada. YAAA!!

  • 15 people aren't okies from muskogee sad.

  • I'm Canadian raised on the reservation grew up listening to old tunes like this and this is one of my favorite songs man!! Fantastic OKIE FROM MUSKOGEE! Right On!

  • @rowgun500 ye' can't beat this old country and i'm only 14 yrs. old

  • @rowgun500 hell ya!!!!!!!!

  • @rowgun500 Love the general!

  • @rowgun500 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! you said 69

  • 1969 was the year this song came out. Both the single and the album. 1969 was one hell of a year all the way around for many reasons. Merle really had some fine songs. Silver Wings was one of my favorites also.

  • God bless the ol' USA.

  • remind me to never go to Muskogee.

  • lol

  • @thebeartaxes yeah i think that place is too civilized for you

  • I love this song always have and always will and I'm a Democrat who lives in the great state of Texas. It's funny how a lot of people take a song too serious and start calling each other names like faggot, unpatriotic, racist white trash enjoy the song and stop being so negative. Republicans and Democrats are both patriotic and love this country they just think differently.

  • fuck you communist whore

  • Amen to that. One thing differs. I am a San Franciscan and proud of it. Still an Okie at heart I guess. A democrat too. In the purest sense of the word.

  • what is okie by the way?

  • oklahoman aka someone born in Oklahoma. Muskogge is a town.

  • oh thanks

  • my papa use to sing this song, he died in 2001...... im so proud to be and okie!!!!!

  • tats my karaoke song lol luv it

  • Wow, original.

  • we dont soke mary joowana, no trips ? you dont know what yo missed.

  • yes from germany

  • I can guarandamntee you that that part of the song is a big ol' lie. Ever seen a redneck hippie? Great combo

  • @Stagolee22 Merle Haggard is not a hippie or a redneck

  • @Stagolee22 you are not aware this is all a joke? he does all these things that was the point.

  • @frenchharp1 I think he would rather get high on life. then be dependent on some bs drug

  • amen with that 100% true

  • What this world needs is a few more redneck's.

  • stupid comments

  • stupid comments

  • I agree, dude. Right on.

  • Wow, way to rip on a group of people who were simply trying to change the world for the better. Maybe people would have an easier time being kind to rednecks and not making fun of them if they would be kinder and more accepting toward us. Trust me, I live in a hickish town, I was pretty nice to the "country folk", but they don't treat me very well.

  • they dont do drugs though

  • I don't either, although many of them do. They just aren't very accpeting people. I'm not saying that all country people are like that (some of them did treat me pretty well and didn't hate me because I was different), just a lot of them.

  • just joking.

But yeah it does matter what state or country

I lived in the Country most of my life and like 99% of the class was for gay marriage and in the city in NC its like only 20% want it

  • That's interesting. Maybe it's just like this where I am, haha.

  • r u from oklahoma????????????????/

  • No, actaully I'm from California, but a part of it which is very full of red necks.

  • This was recorded before redneck heroin (meth) became largely popular.

Usually, one is most critical of things that they find fault within themselves.

  • Sorry I hit the wrong hand-didn't mean to but I agree with you landonhuyyugttdft.

  • merle haggard rectified insistently that he wrote this song with an ironic intention.

  • he backpedaled. simple as that.

  • only on your liberal left wing tube could merle haggard get a "thumbs down". i just have to wonder what the "thumbs up" people would do if they were given a choice to defend these maggots?

  • This song is the definition of hilarity.

  • this songs awesome

  • i love this song

  • im proud to be an okie from muskoge

  • haha I dig weed but fuck hippies great song

  • moved to oklahoma from texas. oklahoma rocks cool people.

  • Funny how your calling us White trailer trash who draw welfare when most if the people that draw welfare are black teenage mothers that can't get a damn job b/c they failed their drug test and haven't done shit to help our country. My dad draws welfare, hes white but he went to Iraq and Vietnam so FUCK you. If you don't deserve it you don't need it.

  • Not that im white or conservative i just wanted to clear it up for you, this song was meant as a pro-war anthem if you will its not racist its just expressing a certain opinion. So relax big guy, plus i love obama too.

  • I actually quite like it

  • i fucking hate obama all hes done is fuck everything up and look how long hes been in there and already nothing good has happened only stupid things only a dumbass would do

  • i did mean to agree with you unlike the moron above who obviously has paid attention to nothing the marxist obongo has done so far

  • Another great song by Merle, I love it.

  • this is the best version, you can hear his pride and humor, great timing, by golly,

i hope he was smokin marywanna,

    gotta love the 'hag'

  • Here in LA we smoke marijuana everyday. (why we dont have as big of meth problem as the rest of middle america does)

  • God bless Merle. Too bad most of the hippies from the 60's ended up as tycoons on Wall Street. We should have shot the whole lot of them before they ended up screwing up America.

  • good call

  • big city

  • @Juggyclownin fuck you. thats all i gotta say

white lightnin is the biggest thrill of all

  • Awesome!!! Merle's music reminds me of my childhood in Kentucky.

  • Merle had the right idea and the balls to say what he thought was right in the 60s. I was a "Hippie" in High school in Dallas in the 80s, but I joined the Army later in life. I am proud to be a Texan! This song is still inspiring, even though it is about Oklahoma. TEXAS STILL RULES!!!!

  • Amen Brother. American by birth ...Texan by the Grace of God.

  • This song is just awesome! LOL

  • i live in muskogeee,ok

  • so do you soke do lsd? make a party from lovin?

  • "Big Wheels Rolling" by Johnny Horton

    Google is your friend.

  • now thats a bad jam - Bunny

  • Hi I need help about a song I think merle sang. Please help me. It goes like this; "Big wheels rollin big wheels rollin movin on gotta keep em goin big wheels rollin movin..." Please help me find this song. Thanks

  • just saw the Mighty Merle do this last night (front row!) in Vegas...as good as it gets. Looked fine and sounded better.

Welcome back to the road Hag...may it be a long, long ride.

One of the great American treasures...

  • I have this on 8-track! LOL! I love this song!

  • got to love haggard one of his best songs

  • Still a wonderful song

    :]

  • I've always loved this song . . .

    OLD RED

  • Merle just had part of his lung removed and the doctor wants him to slow down on marijuana and to quit cigarrettes completely. He said he had been smoking pot for many years after a doctor told him it was as good as the Valiums he was addicted to for sleep. The Okie has been stoned every time he sang the song,,according to him,,for a long time.

  • You people are taking the song out of the historical context. This just the way Merle saw it. If you don't like it, move on. I love it. Merle and Bonnie's voice blended perfectly. If you want to fight something, pick a desease!!

  • hippies are hot and annoying at once

    Hauptsache die Musik macht Spass!

  • It's just a song!

  • this man is the best country singer ever!

  • myy moooother. like this song.

    I think its kinda judgemental,

    like they dont like hippies,

    whats up with that.

  • i was born in muskogee still live here and there is nothing true about this song

  • jeez way to ruin the legend ;) i love this song.

  • good okies

  • them SF hippies ain't so peaceful!

  • my favorite song

  • good damn hippies

  • whats going to happen when people forget these good old boys who dont have to have vocie changer to make them sound good there all great aint they shoooooot there better than todays country!!!!!!

  • These kind of lyrics and voices dont fit to those hip-hop ,rap americans. But to me,elderly finnish man, this music makes me feel OK.

  • A Big , Big,10- 4 on being better than todays country, Todays country sux, give me a big 10 4

  • "Man, where the hell is everybody man?"

  • No child left behind my ass !

  • Unfortunately, democracy can only work properly where there is EDUCATION & who controls that, if you abdicate your own responsibility to learn ?

  • coooooooooooooooooooooool

  • Fuck yeah

  • Did they play this song in the movie Platoon by any chance?

  • yes

  • Thought so, it's a good tune. Thanks!

  • Yes,it plays at 0.32 on the original DVD,or shortly after Charlie Sheen`s character(Wilson)takes a hit through the shotgun in the movie.

  • This is the original live recording in Muskogee.

The only recording that is really any good.

  • this is from his LIVE in Philadelphia album...if you have the album..Bonnie is wearing her "fightin'side colors"

  • then she forgets the words!

  • Great song, but Muskogee sounds pretty boring. It looks like the '60's totally missed that place

  • People's image of the 1960's today is totally distorted. The only places in America where the 60's were all about drugs, war protest, etc. were places like L.A, San Fran, NYC, etc. For the vast majority of America in the '60's, this song was true.
