  • very nice passenger trains and great informative video

  • Is there any way to get a trackplan of your layout? I like the idea of three loops with a figure eight in the middle.

  • Very cool layout, it looks a little busy but when you only have so much room you have to make do. I also liked how you gave the information about each train in the first video. I model (TH&B) Toronto Hamilton and Buffalo ho scale but I really enjoy looking at Great Northern Passenger trains as well I like their orange scheme better than the blue. Anyways nice layout.

  • GREAT Lay out very interesting I my self am from Chicago I'm home sick for the Windy City now!GO CUBS!

  • Sir, Your Skydome Obs car was not the lounge, I noticed it was the sleeper/lounge version, rather than the walthers lounge, where did you find the sleeper lounge skytop?

  • @HunterR909 It is a brass import I bought about 10 years ago.

  • @davidh545 Did you know that the actual sleeper/lounge/skytop found it's way up to canada when amtrak took over passenger operations, where it was used on the super continental, (Rapido Should Produce it in HO Scale), But when VIA Took over, it was sold to someone who who wanted to make it part of a hotel, unfortunatle it was lost when the barge it was lashed to sank .

  • @HunterR909 Thanks for the info.

  • @HunterR909 wow, the barge sank man that was a waste of a beautiful car.

  • Any way to see your track plan?

  • you can always build up. the top level you can have glacier National Park.

the middle level you can have the Washington Cascades. and on the bottom level you can have the sierra Nevada mountains.

  • AMAZING!

  • Very impressive. Love your design I have o guage scale. I love those hobbies.

  • i love the video

  • sorry i ment saw not sasy

  • I have seen the Milliwaki dome loung car in person. I sasy it this sumer at Florida Science Museum

  • Have you seen one of my newer videos "NEW ADDITION" ? Now I have a west coast station so I can run the trains point to point. From Chicago to the west coast.

  • Hi David

How do you operate this layout? Do you go round a few times for 'mileage' and then arrive at the destination?

    Cheers

  • Thanks. It's funny about the WP locos because I just got a set of WP F units and have been running them. I'll make a video soon .

  • i still cant get enough of this layout and all these passenger trains! I frequently watch this video especially for the California Zephyr, it would be really cool to see it pulled by the WP locomotive.. please post some more videos :)

  • david, fantastic work, even though its a small layout, you can still have alot of fun with it, though, i run my trains in a simulator

  • Very Nice Layout, SIR! I absolutely LOVE all the little fine attention to detail you have obviously paid great creedance to in the workings of your layout. I also feel that I have been educated on how the trains you modelled ran. For this I THANK YOU. 5 stars and a SUBSCRIPTION from me.

  • Nice layout you know your stuff good optimization of you limited space i have no space so im thinkin about a n scale layout or doing a garden layout have been reading up on HO outdoor layouts and it looks promising just cant leave them out have to bring the trains in

  • wow nice layout!

  • are you from spokane by the wat nice egines and layout

  • I love the California Zepher!

  • Wow, David, that is quite a wonderful lay-out you have. I love passenger trains and I'm surprised to see somebody else that loves them, as well! Very well done, sir! This is absolutely the best video I've seen of model lay-outs so far! It look to me like you really know your business with models and video gear!

  • do you use dcc

  • No, just regular DC.

  • Where do you get these trains from?

  • nice tour thnks for sharing

  • hey love ur vid's

  • your train layout is so cool. thanks.

  • I watched both tours very interesting!I wish I could build me something like that but I don't have the room.I want to build a set that goes from Chicago(Where I'm from originally)To Los Angeles California in HO scale. That's what I run now.

  • Wow, that's a beautiful layout! So much detail. I love it and I wanna get a train set now! lol. Keep it up!

  • Do you use AC or DC track?

  • DC, all HO trains are DC except for Marklin which are made in Germany.

  • Well thats strange, because we have AC, and I no that because we Got a $100 train engain thats a DC and dose not work on our set.

  • I really don't understand your question. Firsof all do you have Lionel trains (O scale) or HO scale? Lionel trains come in both AC and DC.

  • nice!

  • A few historical notes you didn't mention, both the Empire Builder and the North Coast Limited traveld Chicogo to the Twin Cities on the Burlington, and both the Burlington and rhe SP&S also owned some of the Empire Builder cars. I wouldhave liked to hear something about the models themselves too. I'm assuming you Olympian is brass, but what about some of the other locomotives and cars?

  • Most of the passenger cars are Con-Cor, AHM, Mantua and Tyco. The Cal.Zephyr are Tyco cars and I added the domes from Life Like cars. The Milwaukee Road are OK Streamliner cars that I painted and the tail car is brass. I made up all these trains 10 to 15 years ago,now Walters has some real nice sets as I'm sure know being from Milwaukee. Most the locos are Athearn with a couple Life Like Proto 1000 & 2000.

  • That was a freaky looking diesel on the Olympian Hiawatha.

  • That diesel is known as a Fairbanks Morse-Erie Built. Not too many railroads had them but the Milwaukee Road was one of them.

  • Neat

  • I think the Eries are about the most beautiful passenger diesels ever built too.

  • Sweet!

  • your layout rocks man !

  • This is incredible. I'm sure this is an expensive hobby?

How long did it take you to construct the entire layout?

  • As I said less is more. I see some nice work, but the moutains are working for me. I would think some viaduct track would have worked better and hidden your loops better. Trains look nice, good to see passenger trains.

  • A C-, trying to do too much in to small a space.

  • I just added a west coast yard. Watch my new video - C&WC RR. Just having fun.

  • Glad you liked them. Watching all of those must have cut into your fishing time. Ha Ha.

  • Hey Dave its Scott from work...Love the videos! I've watched all of them and there very impressive...great work! Its a historical lesson also

  • Thanks,I've seen several of your videos and your layout looks "state of the art". Looking forward to see the finished product. Dave

  • Outstanding! enjoyed every min of it!

  • Great Layouts and Caboose shed! I liked your history of the passenger lines. I'm glad to see someone else who has interest in several passenger lines! How did the Milwaukee Road and Northern Pacific share a line? Thanks!

  • The NP ran across southern ND and the MR ran across northern SD. They met at Billings MT and fron there to Spokane they crossed each other a couple times and in a couple places they shared the same trackage. Thanks for the comment.

  • Sorry, they didn't meet at Billings they met at Butte.

  • Theres NP cars in Missoula Mt. at the MRL yard and the still have the roundhouse circle in use there too. Also in Helena MT. at the MRl yard theres a restored NP steam locomotive on display

  • Awesome Layout and Trains, I'm Jealouss!

    EXCELLENT JOB!

By the way, is this DC or DCC?

  • This is just DC. It took alot of wireing but I have too many engines to conver to DCC. Thanks for the comment. I like your airplanes.

  • Thank You. I also have a small layout in the works, but nothing like yours. Everything is running, Now I'm plastering and doing scenery. Lots of Fun!

  • Thanks for sharing these videos. They are very informative about the Golden Years of passenger railroad service. I hope the passenger service will regain its popularity yet again.

  • nice video im very impressed :) awesome job!

  • How much did you spend on all youre trains??

  • Gee, I really don't know. I've been collecting for 35 years. Most of my stuff I bought over 15 years ago when thing were alot cheaper. Each passenger train would cost about $250 today.

  • Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!!!

This is my favorite layout on the whole web, keep up the fantastic work.

    Happy Rails!

  • how long have you been doing this?. its really good!

  • Sweet layout. I'm thinking on building one of my own. Te California Zephyr is one of the nicest trains i've seen. You so alot of history about trains.

  • i noticed how you had a matching caboose by the tunnel for every railroad

  • Me and my son very much enjoyed watching your trains. Your lay-out is one of the most interesting ones we have seen in a long time. Thank you for taking the time to post your videos.

  • Thanks for your comment. I hope you and your son get interested in the hobby, it's a great indoor hobby for those long cold winters. Looks like you live in the north and like fishing and camping by looking at your videos.

  • Yes i do. We are planing a large layout for our 3rd floor. it will be 6x4 conected to 4x4 via a 6foot x 28" causway.

  • how did you make that elevated road seen at 4:00 to 20:00? what did you use?

  • It is made out of mount board (a high quality cardboard used in picture framing.I glued wood strips along the sides, drilled holes and put small dowels in them for the guard posts.

  • Really nice layout. Like all the trains running.

  • You wish you had more room?? I wish I had half the room that you have now! That's a very, very nice set-up!

  • What an excellent collection of passenger trains!

  • Thanks. You might like my video of passenger trains to the song Bound for Glory.

  • montana i miss that place

  • nice!

  • nice video im very impressed i like it i usually do ho scale garden railroad

  • wow what a layout, very impressed - nice work
