@parcofantasma : download ZDoom - it's a sourceport of Doom. Then just launch the Doom wad through there and thats it :) I preffer ZDoom over other source ports because it doesn't change the original graphics with awful 3D models. It only enhances the resolution.

I think it is because Doom wasn't that severely different from the PC version. It was really just a straight port, plus they did have a shareware version of it. So I think they thought it wasn't worth more then 400. If you take a game like Duke Nukem 3D that game had more stuff to it then the PC version, so I think they decided it was worth 800

Oh, and a little addendum: The first FPS that allowed looking up&down was "Hexen" in 1994, which used Doom's engine.

But of course, this "looking up&down" was more ore less faked, considering that Doom wasn't *really* 3D (well, it was in some respects, but lets not get overcomplicated here).

"Quake" in 1996 was pretty much the first *popular* FPS (Terminator Future Shock, Descent and System Shock [not strictly an FPS] came before) with a "real" 3D engine, allowing you to *really* look up&down.

Seriously, nothing like this had been seen before, not even on comparable games like Ultima Underworld.

Doom pretty much cemented the PC as the dominant gaming platform, a status it wouldn't lose until the curent generation of consoles (and even today the whole "dominance issue" isn't really resolved :-D ).

I mean, let's face it: Wing Commander 2 was released in late 1991 and wouldn't have been possible on *any* popular console until the PSX.
