copper hunting is where its at now..148 pre 1982 pennies is one pound..one pound is $4.50...do the math..In 2 years the gov will lift the melt ban on pennies
@RescueSilver - Do I sense some jealousy? Think what you want to.. but it's completely true and I'm glad I made my wife start recording after I opened the first couple rolls.
@GoldenArcher66 - I opened too many "skunk" boxes.. too many people are doing it now I think. It's a pain to order them, carry them, unwrap them, and convert them back into usable money ;-) Once it becomes work, I'm done.
@MonkeyFCoconut even better because you can sell the silver but you can't sell the rainbow. Great find. What part of the country are you in? Was it an older bank that you went to?
@zekehooper - Very true! :) Chicago, IL Not an old bank, and they specifically ordered the coins for me... so they came from a coin counter that got rerolled by that company in the video, then distributed back to the bank to me! Crazy lucky.
@MrSmartAfrican - Awexome! It's pretty rare to find a merc but it happens. 2 per box is about the typical average for me. I went out metal detecting with my dad today, 32F out and the first good signal that I went to dig turned out to be a super awexome coin spill containing a two wheat pennies, a merc, a standing liberty quarter and a walking liberty half dollar! Best coin spill I've found to date.
That's some quality time with your son there. I like the enthusiasm. Some advice, i use a jewelers loop to edge search dimes, they're hard on my eyes.
Do you just go to your bank and ask for 10 dollars worth of dimes? and then you just go back to a different bank and give them the coins you dont want?
@paintdataint - Yes, but a box of dimes is $250 worth... and usually I would only find 2 silver dimes in a box of $250 worth of dimes, that's 2 out of 5000 dimes! Lotta lookin' which is part of the reason I would only do this in the fall and winter when I'm bored.
@huronhorde - Yes it's legal. Just go ask them for a box of dimes, and be prepared to write them a check for $250 or give them cash. They may have to order you boxes, and if they do.. I usually ask for $1000 worth at a time. 4 boxes of dimes is pretty easy to carry for most people. Rule of thumb is you don't want to order more than you can carry in one trip to the teller, or it gets sticky.
@ryanreardon16 - Coinstar is going to charge you 7% or more to cash them in... best bet is to open a free account at a bank like Fifth/Third and go use their coin counters. They don't charge anything, you just have to deal with the bags getting full and the machine stopping - and wait for the teller to come and change the bag. You typically don't bring the coins back to the bank you ordered them through, because that's just rude. Don't make them carry them again, or they may start charging.
@ryanreardon16 - Neither... they need them out of rolls to count them, and just bring them to a bank like 5/3rd that has a public FREE (with account) coin counter. Coinstar charges 7%, which is more than you'll be making looking for silver per box. Also, never pay for them to order boxes of coins... it's not worth it.
thats unreal, congrats dude. the only ones i ever find are the ones in the drawer at work whenever i get to be a cashier. My best find (at work) is 4 quarters lol
Dimes are $250 a box, but you can easily carry 4 boxes at once out the door if you have big hands. Dimes are among the cleanest and quickest boxes to go through too. On average though, I usually only find two silver dimes per box... which is hardly worth the effort. It is fun though on a rainy day, and that's what I like about it.
i went to a bank one time and bought $400 in half dollar rolls and then $50 in dimes. got $30 in silver dimes out of the $50 they were full rolls all wraped in old rolls. so i took thoes old roll wraps to the bank and asked them if they had any other dimes wraped in these wrappers and the lady gave me 3 more rolls and they were all silver. that was by far the best find ive ever had. silver was only $12 at that time and i sold them right away. wish now that i would have held onto them. good luck
Ok, my man. I want to put this in a kind way. This is terribly uncalled for. How many people do you think saw this video? I have broken many coin roll hunting etiquette- marking rolls of half dollars, painting halves to look silver, saying I found 30 rolls of silver dollars on treasurenet, blasting "cherryman's" uncle, etc. But NEVER have I posted a video about coin roll hunting. I hope you never do something this dastardly again. - coincrazed
As of right now, 1,660 people saw this video... once each, or maybe 830 watched it twice. All I know is everyone I tell thinks I'm nuts and would never waste their precious time going to the bank, buying heavy coins, looking through them for some gems every once in a while, and then having to lug them back to the back and cash them back in... and be "that guy" that all of the tellers secretly hate, and the Brinks guy definitely hates. So between you me and you, we are a rare breed. Don't fret
I'm up to 42 silver coins dug for the year, which means so far you are right :) Hopefully I will hit my goal of 100 silver coins dug for the year though.
I thought I'd post a comment about the other boxes in the 4 that I had. Basically, the second box produced 1 rosie, the third box produced 20 rosies! but the fouth box was a skunk (aka nothing in the box worth keeping). Since then I've opened quite a few more boxes and the average is about ONE per box. So these dream boxes don't happen all of the time, if ever! I'm lucky I got to catch this on video :)
ive had a box lik dat just last month i found 14 rosies and 5 mercs

You buy them from the bank. Go to the teller and ask to buy some coin rolls.
Also I currently do nickels for silver, but i might have to stick to dimes lol
