Quick tip! If you use a brush make sure it's a wig brush otherwise you might tangle your wig more. It's also a good idea to use a wide tooth comb. Hope this helps :D
@NellyEdits I believe so. I had a curly wig that I straightened with this method but I have to restraighten it every once and a while because it would start to recurl.
@reistar17 Hmm, thank you but I'm talking about something else, What I mean is if I do this to a curly wig (because it has so many tangles!) Then iron it, then curl it will it be okay? :o
@NellyEdits lol I'm sorry if I wasn't specific. I meant that even when I straightened my curly wig, it can easily be curled back because it originally was made to be curly. So you can recurl a curly wig even after straightening it. Heat resisting wigs are better though for curling irons I hear.
I am sorry! You just looked like of the cast members ^-^:: sorry! But this video was really good, I used it for my Megurine Luka wig, it worked well! Thanks!
@kalynandlove 8D No biggy! Pretty awesome that I look like a cast member from something. Sweeeeet. And I'm really happy to hear that! >u< Hope this tutorial continues to help you.
@kalynandlove lol it's fiine~. No need to apologize. And thank you! I'm really glad it worked well for you and I hope it continues to help you in the future >u<
@AliciaHedgehog Yes you may and you can use a low or medium setting on other straighteners if they do not show the temperatures. But I would test on a small piece of the wig on low setting first.
Just wanna say that My wig looked HORRIBLE, the pigtails were pretty much just big rat nests, and i had tried just about everything.. I was about to give up but then I found this video, and now my wig looks and feels brand new! Thank you so much for uploading this tutorial!
@PpinkGgirl Ther most common places to get wigs, for me and a lot of people, are ebay and taobao. Taobao, though, can get a little expensive with all the agency fees so it's usually better to do group orders with that. To tell if a wig in general is good, look at the feedback and see what they say on a certain wig. The more pictures the seller provides, the better. You can also check out deviantart and if you see a cosplayer with a wig you like, ask them which seller ^^
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!! I will be forever grateful, my miku wig looks so horrible, but now when i know how to repair it, i will be able to use it again!
@MakeupByTristen123 There is a picture actually in the beginning of how the wig used to look. I'm hoping to redo the video, however, as I found some new tips. As well as have more pictures, as I only had the one before I experimented on fixing it.
Hey there! Thanks for the trick it worked really well! <3 I didnt use exactly the same product but it did wonders :) I used garneir Fructis Detangling serum and a Oil sheen especially for wig :3! I would suggest for anyone out there to always test the flat iron on a small part of their wig to make sure it doesnt burn it! 'Cause most manufacturers don't recommend using hot tools on them, but I read somewhere that Kanekalon fibers can support 80° celcius well. Thanks gain for your awesome videos!
@4ngelpsych0 No problem! ^^ Yeah, I found that any kind of detangling and oil sheen will work. I bought a different detangling spray today which worked just as good. x3 And I definitely agree with you. There are some that do not work too well with hot irons so yeah, testing it is a big thing >.< No problem! X3 I do hope I continue to make videos that can help people.
@KuriPurix3 It's alright. ^^ The oil sheen is basically what moisturizes and conditions the hair. You can also use any kind of conditioning spray or soak the wig in conditioner to acheive the same thing. The oil sheen I use mainly because it helps with the tangles to loosen and prevent the wig from tangling too easily. But otherwise, you can use any conditioning method ^^
Q_Q You know...I've got my Miku wig just for 2 days but I wasn't careful enough with it so the bottom got so tangled ,that I brushed it too much and it got puffy at the bottom. So it's still tangled and puffy... xD
When I noticed the bottom got puffy .. I looked like this: O_O.. But I'm not sure if I should cut it a little..Because it's so long that it almost hit the floor when I wear it and I'm not really tall. Sorry for the bad english xD
@KuriPurix3 I'm glad that this helps! ^^ And yeah, o.O that is an extremely long wig for it to hit almost to the floor. I know I trimmed another long wig of mine because it was just too long and tangled so easily from being that long. >.<
@KuriPurix3 You can find it in the ethnic hair care section of a store. It's the aisle with products marketed towards blacks. I find that the oil sheen dulls my wigs after a bit. I use a wig spray called Bobos Remi wig spray. It's in a purple bottle and works WONDERs on old wigs. If there are beauty supply stores in your city you can get it. Or you can order it online. It's not super expensive. A small bottle is 3 bucks and 10 bucks for big one. If online you have to pay for shipping. HTH
did you know i watched all 3 of your videos and when i went to do the steps, i didnt use detangling spray, i accidentally grabbed the leave in conditioner. O.O what a frizzy nightmare that was. its been almost a year and one ponytail is tangled but semi normal while the other one is frizzy and fluffy. when im not using it, i literally tie the ponytail in a knot and so far the fluffiness has gone down
@Samiinaction o.O oooo, I'm not sure how well the leave in conditioner works. Some say it works but by the sound of it, not too well for you. >.< My wig used to look like that too, all frizzy and poofed out. At first I thought that was fine but the more I got into cosplay, omg. I had a nightmare on my hands. I do hope using the detangling spray will help a lot more for you
@reistar17 idk if im ever going to fix it cuz some of the hair fibers LITERALLY MELTED together. i cut and brushed some parts and its looking alot better. thank god for that. now i got to untangle, straighten AND cut this really messy wig for my sisters Hetalia cosplay. i dont feel like getting a wig for her when we have a close to it wig that we dont use that i can fix
@Samiinaction o.O Oh man. Did you use straightener with a low setting? Cermic straighteners, like mine is, work better. It's also made to not damage a person's hair so a cheapy straightener won't really work.
@reistar17 nah. i havnt done that yet. but, i did brush and cut it. it looks A LOT better than it did, but the weird thing was it was thicker in the front than the back, and the wig was on the right way. the bad part out of all this was, even if you looked at, a huge hairball would come out of that thing, so a lot of the hair was brushed out. its not as curly as it was before and i might straighten it tomorrow morning.
@Samiinaction Oh ew. >.< I had one wig that was like that too. Another wig of mine, the way they had the wefts going, I had to wear the wig more towards the right then straight on. Hope it works for you!
@LadyIvy1126 You're very welcome! If you've kept the original bag and hairnet that the wig arrived to you in, that is the best option. And then have some kind of bag to place them in. I'll do a video of how I store my wigs, actually, to help give a better idea. ^^
@VilleHermanniValoFan lol there is no talent needed to untangle wigs. As long as you start from the bottom and work your way up the wig, you'll be fine. I actually had almost zero experience with wigs when I had detangled my Miku wig for the first time. >u< You can do it! I believe in you!
hey. my miku wig is so tangled i don't think i can fix it. i dont have the patience. there are lots of rats nests in the top half of the wig n i think it will take forever to get them out. CAN U HELP ME???
@VilleHermanniValoFan Unfortunately, patience is needed to get rid of tangles. The rest of my tutorials which are in my description will show you how I do it. There is no fast way to remove tangles without damaging the wig. >.< Your best bet is to have someone else do it if you don't believe you can.
@LynniNele Part 2 and Part 3 of the Tutorial, which the links are in the description, will help you with detangling and reconditioning wigs to rid the frizz ^^
i know this has nothing to do with wig restoring (though it helped amazingly X3) but what is the name of the song playing in the beginning? iIknow its vocaloid and I think its sung by miku ^^"
Hello! I'll be using the two products you mentioned on my miku wig, and was wondering..Does the detangler make the fibers stringy? Im afraid to over-spray it! And as for making it frizz less when you move, I heard using motions oil sheen spray on the inner areas of the wig will make it stick to your body less ^^
@Sushiibunniie No, it shouldn't. Or at least it hasn't for me and I've used it a lot on a few of my long wigs. As for overspraying, you just need to use a few sprays and run your hands over it. It dries pretty quickly. You don't need to spray a whole lot to get it to work. And thank you! ^^ I'll have to check that out. I've been spraying the wig over once with the detangler spray to help with the static.
@12enma12 Unfortunately, those sort of wigs cannot be saved. >.<; It's the type of fiber that isn't heat resistant. Your best option is to find one that is, and the wigs that have an adjustable sizing are usually the ones that are more heat resistant. Wigs that are Kanekalon or heat resistant is what you want. ^^; I'm afraid this tutorial won't be of much use for barbie type of wigs.
@EvilSisterOfChicken Start out low and probably keep it below medium heat since it's not as heat resistant as most wigs are usually. ^^ But start out on a VERY low setting since it's not heat resistant. And raise it slightly, enough to where your wig does receive some heat but not enough to cause it damage. You can try the under layer of the back of the wig to figure out the best setting.
I have to say, I'm very thankful (and very jealous you got it so nice!) for this tutorial!
I ruined my first wig Miku wig and hopefully, with your tutorial, I'll be able to get the 2nd one better~ Me and my mother were like... Oh, it looks so smooth, we gotta buy the supplies! xDD
@CandiiKitti You're very welcome! Yeah, I thought I wouldn't be able to redo my Miku wig at all because of how much damage was done to it. I even at one point had to remove the pigtails off the clips and rearrange it so there wasn't a bald spot. It's no fun >.< And I'm happy to help anyone because spending so much money on wigs and they end up getting damaged is no fun. I hope it works well for you! ^^
@tweety9102 >.< ooooo, yeah. I don't really understand them either but that's why I got some extensions really cheap from a wig store, like $3, and ran tests on them with the straightener I had and just increased the heat little by little. Kanekalon though is REALLY good with straightening so it doesn't really take much. But like I said, just do a test with your straightener cause every straightener is different. I hope that was somewhat helpful.
@tweety9102 D8 um um um! .... I think you could probably find some on ebay? But like I said, after you get the wig brushed out, just start at the lowest setting. I'm sure it'll be fine as long as you don't go above medium heat. You could do the under layer of the wig since it won't show and you can make judgement on how high to put the straightener. o^o
@tweety9102 I'm happy to hear that!! Yeah, it should slowly start to smooth out and going over it a few times will get it to smooth out. The ends of my Miku wig actually have a little bit of roughness but as long as it's not noticeable to the eye, then your wig should be fine ^^
@Miyuchuu I actually bought it second hand from a friend but she told me she got it from CosplayWig on ebay. Though it's unknown if they still sell it. Charissa-KIDS though has a similar one to the one I have.
@TheTokyoBunny You're so welcome! I'm glad to hear it works! X3 I have yet to figure that out myself as I dance as well with some of my wigs. The only thingI can think of is to probably spray it with the detangler before you dance. Another option I guess you could try is maybe a de-static spray for clothes. I heard that works really well too. Wish I could be of more help >.<;
@TheTokyoBunny The two sprays that you can get at Walmart are "Equate Hair Detangler Spray" found in the children section and "Soft&Beautiful Oil Sheen Conditioning Spray" also found at Walmart. You can actually use any bran of cheap oil sheen spray. But the detangler spray is the best one for tangles. ^^
Im going as Miku and Stocking! yay!

@reistar17 When I say ruined, I mean, i's all tangled, and parts are fuzzy, and a few strands of hair have fallen out.
I thought that Kanekalon fiber can only handle heat less than 200 degrees? I don't understand straighteners . . .

@reistar17 D: I dont know where to get kanekalon extensions

@tweety9102 D8 um um um! .... I think you could probably find some on ebay? But like I said, after you get the wig brushed out, just start at the lowest setting. I'm sure it'll be fine as long as you don't go above medium heat. You could do the under layer of the wig since it won't show and you can make judgement on how high to put the straightener. o^o

@reistar17 Your tutorial is working! ;D Kind of . . the fuzzy part (well used to be) still feels funny . .

@tweety9102 I'm happy to hear that!! Yeah, it should slowly start to smooth out and going over it a few times will get it to smooth out. The ends of my Miku wig actually have a little bit of roughness but as long as it's not noticeable to the eye, then your wig should be fine ^^

hi where did u buy the wig?^^ from ebay? can u tell me the store name?
Miyuchuu 1 year ago
@Miyuchuu I actually bought it second hand from a friend but she told me she got it from CosplayWig on ebay. Though it's unknown if they still sell it. Charissa-KIDS though has a similar one to the one I have.

thank you so much? this really works, my wig is perfect now!!! Is there any way l can stop the wig from frizzing while I dance?
TheTokyoBunny 1 year ago
@TheTokyoBunny You're so welcome! I'm glad to hear it works! X3 I have yet to figure that out myself as I dance as well with some of my wigs. The only thingI can think of is to probably spray it with the detangler before you dance. Another option I guess you could try is maybe a de-static spray for clothes. I heard that works really well too. Wish I could be of more help >.<;

what is the spray called? my speakers dont work and i cant hear it :(
TheTokyoBunny 1 year ago
@TheTokyoBunny The two sprays that you can get at Walmart are "Equate Hair Detangler Spray" found in the children section and "Soft&Beautiful Oil Sheen Conditioning Spray" also found at Walmart. You can actually use any bran of cheap oil sheen spray. But the detangler spray is the best one for tangles. ^^

This should be pretty useful because I'm actually fixing a friend's Miku wig in a few days.
