i for one think this was beofre ceaser, from what i know (which isnt very much) they didnt charge in, the kept the sheild wall and moved like a machine
Yes and no. The shields Gemina is using are one of the shields the romans used. Sofar I have found four different shapes on different carvings. Check the trojan column for examples (1st/2nd century AD). Probably they had more. The bigger shields are traditionaly more Ceasar time (50 BC) or before.
@Jacey521 Caesar was never emperor,Augustus, his nephew, was the first roman emperor from 30 BC to 14 AD and in his time they used often these shields, the first roman shields where round and big but from 30 BC to 100 AD they used these shields, after emperor Trajan they used again the rounded type
soory but i think it could be only great if they would be 5000 and they would play some smaller battle with a bit reality. Not like those weak men who usually play some duel on these places. if somebody could be do this i would also join to them...:P
I would say discovery fueled by imagination, but certainly within the realms of realism. Not imagination alone, then we'd see Romans fighting dragons...
Asian people from the far east like China did probably not serve in the legions. But legions or auxiliari units from people living in the Middle east did exist.
I don't know if black (or asian) legionairs served in Legio Decima Gemina. We will probably never know...
hmmm.... i wonder if a black or asian person could be a part of this reinactment group?
maybe there were untold stories of blacks and asians in the roman legions back then. But then again if that were to happen I'd also expect little green men to be in the Roman army too. LOL
Black persons probably served in the roman army in two ways. In Germany a auxiliari fortres was found which was occupied by a cohort/ala (cavalry unit) from Numidia (North Africa) so it is possible black people were part of them.
When Rome grew bigger people from all over the empire (like Africa) came to Rome. If these (from origine foreign) people became Roman citizens they or more probably their offsprings could serve in the legions.
there was a lone report of a roman legion (or what was left of it) fighting in china possibly taken as captives after a battle by a far from Rome tribe and sold or captured (again) to or by Chinese however this is unlikely to be true but what if...
No it doesn't matter the race of the people who were involved in the re-enactment. It's like putting a black wax figure to be a stand in for one of the United States Continental Congress' state representatives. Get my drift? I'm not trying to be racist
It sure does take a way the realism if you put an Asian guy in the middle of the cohort.
Unless, there were actual written accounts of an Asian guy who actually fought for one of the Roman legions.
It's 'segmentata', I believe. Anywho, it's the more popularized version, the later imperial legions, that tend to be shown in reenactments and in movies over the legions of any earlier period.
yes hoplites are much cooler (in my opinion) still the legionaries where better (how could they else become independ and later even destroy there conquers and even a very big part of europe.

onewithguitar 4 years ago
As far as I know it is al self made. Look on the internet for "Segmentata" or "imperial Gallic Roman helmet" and you will find many shops around
basgordijn 4 years ago
Lorica segmentata is for sale all over the webs.
The scutum and the Galic Helm are harder to find. The gladius should be quite numerous too.
