Wendy was caught between the triple jump craze of the mid 1970's. After placing 4th overall at Worlds in 1975 she finished in 6th place at the 1976 Olympics then dropped to 8th at '76 Worlds without a triple. As the final skater of the last group at 1977 nationals, she skated in semi darkness after Fratianne performance. Wendy was placed first in the long and won the bronze. At 1977 Worlds, she actually landed a triple salchow won a bronze in the combined free medal, fifth overall.
A wonderful skater for sure. No, she never won a National Senior title, she should have in Oakland 1975. Wendy is now a successful coach in Southern California!
i think she is also famous for putting the lights out at the end of her free skating performance, possibly Hartford 1977. Talk about "Dancing in the dark"!!!
yes...she should have won in '75. i was actually able to see her skate with ice capades in 1981 on the same tour with tai and randy. i had now idea she was on the prgram and was so incredibly thrilled!!!
the "lights out" thing also happened to linda fratinanne at nationals in '80. she was in the air in the middle of her third butterfly at the end of her program when a blackout occurred. wow...powerful ladies we've always had, huh???
I always liked the speed Wendy had when she skated...you can see the promise she had even in the junior ranks....
