  • you must be from another planet :-)

  • Can you make a video on how to make a pantograph like yours, please?

  • Why don't you watch my video on how to make the pantograph?

  • @Matthiaswandel In regards to the number of clamps, as everyone else has mentioned, I seem to remember a video (oct 4,2009) involving an apple press. Could you have just pressed your lamination?

  • I suppose. But clamps are much more suitable for the job.

  • you have so much skills, i wish i had all those machinery to make all the projects i have in my mind.. all you do is so nice.

  • you should get a little vaccume press

  • In a previous request to build and sell, I think it was the box joint jig (rather than the plans), you replied --quite humorously-- "just because I know how to make a sandwich doesn't mean I want to sell them!" Well this video proves you definitely know how to make a sandwich! I have been enjoying your work, and sharing with fellow faculty who teach technology education.

  • Matthias keep up the good work! You really are a smart guy :)

  • that was cool but one thing i don't understand is why did you put so much clamps in every single video???? three or four are enough!

  • Because three or four are not nearly enough to make sure the thin veneer contacts everywhere.

  • @kruska811 If you've got 'em, use 'em!

  • cool project. canola oil goes rancid though so I would use mineral oil, thats what you use on wood cutting boards

  • As always I am impressed with your genius handiwork and videos. I can only aspire to such greatness.

  • just a friendly tip from a wood technology student, it's better when you make your own ply wood to use a phenol-formaldehyde glue in order to be more tolerant to humidity.Apart from this i love your work!Greetings from Greece!

  • You never cease to amaze me....

  • Don't you cancel the positive effect of the plywood if you route the circular groove? Or is the depth of the groove not big enough to go through the first layer completely?

  • Who needs IKEA anyway ? :D

  • I guess you know the lids are at Walmart for 99cents per 3 right? I appreciate the craftmenship though! But I think one should always try to balance between labour and costs when bought.

  • @hobbyguy He does not make these things to save a few bucks. He does it because he enjoys it.

  • Muito bom, principalmente o gabarito para a retificadora,

  • i have no experience with cutting/tools/measuring or anything like that, but i watch your vids just cause youre so dope at what you do. you know how to make what you do interesting and appealing to watch.

  • you amaze me with your wood

  • Tool montage!

  • You should put indents in the top of the lids, that are the size of the base of the dishes, so you can stack them.

    @animehobo It's from Skyrim.

  • Man, you're ingenuity never fails to amaze me.

  • Research indicates that wood is a safer material in contact with foodstuffs than currently recommended alternatives. In essence wood has antibacterial properties, where plastic does not.

  • I read somewhere that mineral oil is the ideal oil to use on cutting boards and the like since it doesn't oxidize and start to stink like the vegetable oils.

  • I wonder if you can cut gears with the pantograph?

  • I'm keeping a flamethrower handy for the day when he builds a terminator entirely out of wood.

  • Epic clamping @ 2:30

  • Nice job!

I hope you roughed up the faces with coarse sandpaper before you glued them together (perhaps it wasn't necessary in your case).

  • You could glue a chamfered cork disk on the bottom of the lid to make an airtight seal.

  • Wouldn't mineral oil be a better choice since vegetable oils will go rancid?

  • Weird, I looked up "engineer" in the dictionary and all it said was "see Matthias Wandel". I love watching your ingenious solutions - I don't know who else would have thought to make their own lids to replace the plastic ones. Even better, the wood lids look a lot nicer than the plastic!

  • Woodworking tip: never use vegetable oil or any cooking oils on wood surfaces like cutting boards (or your lids) these will eventually go rancid. You really should use an inert oil, and generally mineral oil is the popular one (unscented baby oil is the same oil). I believe Walnut oil is another one, but I can't remember for sure.

  • Dd you consider using a vaccum chamber bag for the gluing process

  • @BrushCountryJamboree Beat me to it. Veneering is one of the best applications for a vacuum-bagging system. You can't beat the even pressure of air.

  • @Mauser712

Yep, can't wait for Mathias to make a vacume bag system our of old roofing tar and a dustbuster.

  • It would be epic if you made the lids, but with secret drawers built in that you could hide pennies and stuff.

  • I see your situation preventing you for drilling the center, but what if you glue a short segment of a dowel rod in the middle as a pivot then later chisel and plain it off.

  • Dishwasher safe? :)

  • Definitely not.

  • If you made the lids a bit thicker and then cut a groove in the edge of the part that goes into the container, you could use a rubber ring (cut from sheet rubber) to give an airtight seal.

  • I wouldn't have made my own plywood if I didn't already have all the veneer lying around from testing the sawmill!

Took me a few takes to get the plywood stability explanation concise and short :)

  • I really have to make one of those pantographs. I love the way it operates.

  • Interesting! Never thought of doing that before.

  • Make a plate press.

  • wow how many clamps do you have?

  • Nearly enough!

  • @Matthiaswandel You can NEVER have enough clamps!

  • So that is why you made the sawmill!

  • what about handles? and o-rings inside the lid for an air-tight seal?

  • LOL ALL THOSE CLAMPS

  • Stay away from canola! It goes rancid!

Mineral oil is food safe and lasts forever.

  • You are brilliant.

  • make yourself a bookpress...

  • @st8pl8guy were did that joke start!!!!

  • @fumbimo

  • @fumbimo skyrim

  • @st8pl8guy It's amazing Skyrim has made this much of an impact on the world.

  • @st8pl8guy Alright I don't get it.......... What's the joke?

  • @st8pl8guy Oh no! Not here. Puhleeeeaaase....

  • Next project... veneer press.

  • Im a mechanic, but my favourite material is wood :)

  • You can never have enough clamps ;)

  • I haven't even seen the video, and I know it'll be interesting.

And I predict hardly anyone will see this comment.
