Bought this album in Starbucks. finally listened to it at work. different but good. breaks the norm. there are other sounds out there that are worth hearing.
This commemorate,s Donal cam O sullivan bere.He fought in the nine years war against England which ended in defeat at the battle of kinsale. After the battle he lead a succesful guerilla campaign, but with no other support Donal was forced to march his supporters to safety in the territory of his ally Hugh The Great O neill in ulster. Many were killed along the way, others settled along the route taken, but it is said only 30 out of over a thousand survived. He was one of the earls who fled in 1607.
What a fantastic rendition. On their "album liner notes" the Chieftains produced this to sound like a pipe band leading the clan in their march, and at they end the volume tails off. Thanks for the posting!
The first time I heard this song was driving around the beautiful Dingle Peninsula. It was Easter 2007, a fine soft Irish day, with clouds and an interval mist. This song came on just as we were rounding the bend where the Blaskets come into view. The sun came shining just a wee bit through the clouds and there was a rainbow hanging in the mist above them. Let's just say I never wanted to leave :)
@soccerchamp0511 Every now and then God smiles on us and gives us that special moment in time. Read Maurice O'Sullivan's "20 years a growing" Plenty of O'Sullivans in that area. Merry Xmas! Jim O'Sullivan
usually New World Order is what it means, though be the truth its really the rich that play grand games with contrys, many world leaders go to school together at the ivy league schools stateside, so they all have a like minded thought and like many of the same types of hobbys. but really I think the chinese are more of a threat, they bide their time, but dont get me wrong I like chinese people and their history its just their government I dont trust. This is a pretty song though.
The march passed close by my fathers, uncles and aunts farms. They say people dropped out of the march along the way and settled there. I wonder if I am descended from some on that march. I hope so. O'Sullivan abu.
@ohevshalomel me too hard to describe the tone but as far as I know the name of the instrument it means or refers to Dullness or slack as the soung I like most drums except the millitary tight skinned sound
nice to hear a song about your family name, i saw on another post this is a song they want played when they die, I will add it on to my wish list, but the Parting Glass will always also be on my request list.
