  • love watching your videos

  • @NickiPhoneToucher Thanks. Glad you enjoy them.

  • The Beatles were before my time, but I finally grew to like them when I watched the Beatles Anthology recently. I think John Lennon's death was one of the worst things that ever happened. I wish I could undo it. What makes it even worse is that he decided to reunite the Beatles just before he died. John Lennon was an INFP and I love INFPs!

  • I don't get this, "The Day The Music Died" had nothing to do with John Lennon.

That phrase refers to when Buddy Holly died and Don Mcleans song The Day the music died .

Google the day the music died. You'll see that Don Mclean dedicated the song to Buddy.

  • Yes, i'm aware of that Paul.

But, i think for a lot of people, John Lennon's death was their own "day the music died". I guess it's a personal thing?

As it happens, i think the music is still very much alive :)

  • f only the present day politicians who also grew up listening to John's words of wisdom would put themt into practice. That would be his greatest tribute.

  • Right on. Couldn't agree more Tam :)

  • I didn't make a John Lennon video this year b/c it definitely conjures up stories of Michael Jackson's death for me. As you know, I'm a big fan and have been since I was a young boy. That's been a video that I've been wanting to make, but have had a hard time approaching the subject. This may have inspired me to share my feelings about MJ.

Regarding the celebrity deaths, I recently saw a t-shirt that said "I was a fan of Michael Jackson before he died!"

Give peace a chance. Heal the world.

  • I like the sound of that t.shirt.

I'm actually going to make a follow up video ot this, which might just be the one to tell your MJ story as a response to. I guess i'd better get around to recording it :)

  • Thanks Andy! That day I was in shock. At first it was disbelief, anger and finally I openly wept. He was a great beacon for me & the music will never die.

  • My pleasure Willy.

I know you're a big Lennon fan. I can't say that any "celebrity" death has ever affected me to the point of tears.

I've certainly been very shocked by a death, as i was with John Lennon's. That was partly because of the nature of his death i think :)

  • That day I was a trainee solicitor and wore a black tie to work. Never did it for anyone else except Marc Bolan

  • I remember that Marc Bolan death as well. That came as a big shock too. I remember seeing Bolan on the TV with David Bowie only days before.

I was a huge T.Rex fan, back in the day. The first 45 i ever bought was "Hot Love" :)

  • I think I have the complete Bolan collection from John's Children through to the end including some very well worn vinyl!

  • Wow. I used to have nearly all the T.Rex singles & Electric Warrior & The Slider on vinyl. Unfortunately i got rid of them all years ago :(

  • A very good tribute Andy. Very interesting talk. I always play his music on this date and the 9th december as that was the day it broke on the UK news i think. Like you i was in bed and Dad shouted up it's 7.30 and John Lennon's died. I couldn't believe it. I got up quickly to find out and it was one of the saddest days of my life. I bought all the newspapers and kept checking the magazine racks and bought several special mags but many years later i sold them all.

  • Thanks. I always think personal stories are more interesting somehow.

I bet you regret selling those mags now?

  • Very interesting talk Andy, thanks!

  • Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it :)

  • It is funny how much we remember this things, I was just 9 when Lennon died so it did not register bug at the time, I do remember how shocked I was when freddy mercury died and how every kid and taxy driver started playing the queen collection.

  • I think we all have those deaths that affect us. For me it was Lennon etc. Obviously for those younger than me it will be the Mercury's & Jackson's.

    I think i have a video idea :)

  • It seemd even more a waste for the cause... crimey give me a break

  • What's a 45? jk

I already had the 45 "I Want to Hold Your Hand" when the Beatles first appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show in '64. It was love at first sight...

I was heart broken when they broke up. But nothing matched the shock & sadness of Dec 8th. (still can't believe it's been 29 years ago.) but yea know, it's proof how awesome Lennon was that new generations are loving his music too. ;)

  • I saw a documentary recently which showed The Beatles on that first tour. It showed those Ed Sullivan performances & the reaction they had. Great stuff.

Do you still have that 45?

  • No, my X kept that along with my first movie camera. ;(

However, somehow I did manage to hang on to the original 1964 poster! ;D

  • You were living at home at 22? And I was embarrassed to admit that I was 19 and going home to my folks in my vlog ;^)

Jim Morrison and Janice Joplin were two more who died at 27. That is, if you actually believe that Jim Morrison is dead...

And long as my vlog was, you still beat me by eight seconds!

  • What's 8 seconds between friends?

And there was me thinking that this a fairly short vlog. Until i looked at the clock that is!

Living at home was easy & cheap. I was young, free & single. Those were the days eh?

I forgot about Janis Joplin. I bet rock stars breath a big sigh of relief on their 28th birthday? :)

  • That scrambling following an untimely death also happened with Kurt Cobain - Nirvana CDs and cassettes were flying off the shelves right after the news broke (and I was working at a music store at the time, coincidentally enough). I never felt any connection to Cobain or his music the way you, Ken, Gary and others did with Lennon though.

  • Although i enjoyed the music of Nirvana, i never really got the adoration of Kurt Cobain either.

In fact & i'm slightly afriad to say this, i think Nirvana were overrated! There, i said it.

The Beatles will always be a huge band for me because of what i said here. No other band will probably ever touch them, because of those youthful memories :)

  • i think the same of the beatles.overrated that is.

i had a paper round when elvis died, thats how i heard about that.

  • Thanks for sharing your experiences about that day Andy.

I have heard a couple of tracks of Lennon including Imagine.

I think when someone passes away it gets people to listen to the music of that artist.

  • My pleasure Barry.

I guess all the publicity reminds the older fans & opens the eyes of a new generation? :)

  • yeah l remember it too. very sad day 5* love from scotland

  • Thanks.

A sad day indeed. At least we're talking about the man & his music after all this time :)
