To die in a cage or in nature, the last one just looks more poetic to us. But in the end they die from human hands.

Please don't look at the guys who put them out of the cage like heroe, they just add stress to the animal and make them die because of it... Otherwise why don't they open fish tanks and bird cages in our houses ? Minks are domestic animals and they have nothing to do in european ecosystem!
