the one rider at the end on the white horse jumping seems to be a lot like me. I ride a blue roan mare and she is full of herself you have to ride with a crop and she bucks harder than the white horse..haha but i can no keep my irons and stay in the saddle :)

@JauntyGal Sometimes you have to smack a horse, or they will learn bad and potentialy dangerous habits. If you had a horse that always refused because you let it get away with it, it might cause inexperienced riders to fall off. But you shouldn't use a stick in anger like this girl did, that's wrong.

As for the girl who hit the horse after he ducked out. She deserved the buck. Hitting your horse in place is ok but it was too long after the mistake to whip a horse, he bucked because it was unexpected. Completely understandable.

i didnt want to cause trouble, im subscribed to millidawggirl and she is a wonderful rider. i just don't think its right to smack a horse ten seconds after he refuses, he wont understand what he is being punished for. I dont think he meant to be naughty when he bucked, he was just startled because he wasnt expecting to be smacked. I agree that the rider is the boss and its the horse's job to do what the rider asks. if the horse must be punished then the punishment should be carried out sooner :)

@Sirennah definately agree with you. if the horse refuses ( and can be hit by a crop) you stop the horse right away, bring it straight back infront of the jump it refused, and smack it if you are going to use a crop. honestly, i saw alot of disagreeable training here. haha

@lollyj76 Smacking conveys anger to a horse, which, in turn, causes him to become more beast-like. The whip is really supposed to be used as a forward aid, to get the horse to round up in the bridle, engage his hindquarters, and move forward. It isn't meant to be used to beat the animal into submission. If a horse is really so bad to ride that you must constantly punish him by beating him with the whip, then you should spend more time on groundwork, lunging, and free jumping to gain respect. ^_^

The refusal of the jump is normal, and riders don't usually smack there horses AFTER they refuse. They just try again. It's NEVER the horse it's the rider. If you seriously would have smacked your horse, that is abusing! Weather you want to believe so or not. Speaking the truth, cuss me out if you want. But it's true. ^^

I agree with you, but I do believe in a swift smack of the hand on the butt if they're being rambunctious. At the same time, I wouldn't have allowed the horse to get on the other side of the jump.. That just teaches them that they can get around it. If you teach them they have to go over it, it rules out the need for reprehension.

I know I should stay out of it, but if that is an older, more experienced horse that has jumped that before, it knows better. It is only disapline. The horse I ride is 12 years old and I never let him get around a simple jump with out a smack behind his leg. You need to teach them that its not going to hurt them, and letting them go around is saying "its okay, you can do it when you feel like."
