You did not over-react. Your anger was not the least bit misplaced. News operations letting inappropriate information go to air is inexcusable. The sad thing is that it takes viewers, readers, and listeners to point out failures in journalistic ethics to "j-school pros".
I just caught an interview you gave to NHK Newsline, and wanted to thank you for your good work, and for giving of yourself to the extent that you have. You're a good man and a good example to all of us.
Amid many insensible and irresponsible foreign and even Japanese reporters, Daniel Kahl is one of the few sensible figures we should value. His comments appeal to me. Never should we get misled by deceptive reports. I fully realize how much he loves Japan; his dedication to the country is second to none. That is quite obvious to every one in Japan, including me. Now let us join his chorus against the escalating hysteria. Thanks for your brave action. I fully support you, Mr. Kahl.
Thanks. But they do not apologize. It is not necessary to apologize. Those foreign media does not report about the facts. They sides the market fundamentalists who needs flattened land for development. Those vultures who feels happy when everybody else suffers has to be blamed. Thanks again, Mr. Kahl. Let us be relaxed.
Japan will prevail. At least there is no lootings. As you said kids are playihg around in the parks.
Dear H4ruOnna4 please stop & do not thank on behalf of ALL the foreigners & Japanese I am a foreigner & know many who were irritated by Daniels comments. But we are all allowed an opinion. But we can never speak for all the people.
I am glad you apologized. There will always be some hysteria in situations that test us.But we usually are able to make a judgment call that we are personally comfortable with.As the mother of a Japanese child & a resident of nearly 20 years. I wanted my son out till things stabilized at the plant.
I don't think you have to apologise, when people are panicking, the best thing for calming them down is the proverbial slap in the face. You got your regular dose of youtube trolls. Ignore them.
The hysteria in my neck of the woods is such, that Swedish pharmacies ran out of iodine pills on Wednesday, because a "serious" news source (Dagens Industri) announced that the "Toxic cloud headed for Sweden!"
Thank you for trying to calm the unnecessary panic. You have my respect and support.
THANKS,DANIEL,In Behalf of the Japanese People and also the Foreigners Living Here,we are Happy We Have Voiced it Out Through You.Thank You.I Know There are are many GOOD Kind Hearted People of GOD who is Praying Non Stop, not only for Japan for the whole world as well.

nice and clear. I don't think you were harsh. I too live in Tokyo and have send mail to the editor-in-chief of the daily in my home country with the basically same message. To his credit, it was printed and had tremendously calmed down my family and friends. Thank you.
you did not come across as harsh to me, but rather cool headed and using you power in a helpful direction. at least I send you a big thanks from me! take some good rest Daniel-san, you shouldn't be in front of a pc at 3AM...never is a good idea.
Is there anything else that we can do than give money and conserve? I'm in 西Tokyo and I took a couple of weeks off because I had no idea what the heck was going on... Watching this kinda gave me some motivation to do something else.. Ahh... So much to think about but I agree with you that things are getting better.
@DrJoshMc Right now, the best things you can do to help is CONSERVE. If you contact your local city hall, I am pretty sure they've started a "collection point" for warm clothes, blankets, and newly bought, fresh underwear and socks. But contact them BEFORE you bring a load of stuff in. Each city around Japan seems to be asking for different relief supplies. Many cities have "sister-city" relationships with northern towns, so they try to respond to the specific needs of each affected area.
I think it's hard to get a grasp on just how emotional all of these events are. The scale of the disaster has been so massive that many of the things you would normally see people spending their energy on is put off until the dust has settled. I think this is something that the international media has gotten wrong. They see something and take it as an opportunity to attack, or make a big headline. While that might be acceptable normally, it's not something that works for Japan right now.
Hang in there, Daniel-san! We are all praying for the Japanese people to come out of all this tragic disaster and situation as quickly as possible. And things ARE turning better very quickly. I see roads being repaired, goods being delivered, temp homes being built, ect., etc., It's amazing how quickly Japanese people work together at times like this! And we should all help them the best we can; sending positive messages and moral support is the least we can do right now. Pray for Japan!
