  • I USE ME FINGERS TO PLAY THE BASS. NICE COVER THOUGH.

  • why the hell Youtube keep fuckin up videos?

  • @Yodan702 - For some reason the sound is back and working again. Although I think a bit out of sync.

  • Very good bass cover

  • i came onto this video and there was 93,666 views. what are the chances? =P

    awesome cover dude =D \,,/

  • when the eletric bass was invented by Leo Fender everyone used picks, It was not untill double bass players made the switch to vertical bass that fingers became the 'right' way. I play with my fingers because I prefare the sound.

  • u know it doesnt matter if he uses a pick, because metalica songs are really fast and to be more accurate its better to use pick, and i use pick too

  • 2 HORNZ UP! NICE JOB!

  • yea, whats the big deal about using a pick?!? hes awsome, and he can actually play it right. jeeze

  • you know what sucks you people are giving him crap about using a pick but this is the and one other are the only that are Right!!

  • you look cute

    nice cover.

    Metallica!!!

  • verry good;)

  • very very good , but i prefere my fingers ;))

  • METALLICA!!!!!!

  • Omg!! This guy is awesome!!

Best Master of Puppets bass cover i've ever seen!

    \m/

  • awsome job

    5/5

  • whats so bad about using a pic? i mean seriously is there a difference

  • kk ty

  • nice job, but don't use a pick.

I hardly ever use a pick.

If I do it's if my fingers are tired from work and i just wanna work out my left hand. I'll use a 3 mm jim dunlop big stubby.

but about 99.99% of the time I use my fingers.

none the less... good job :D

  • I don't think anyone here gives a crap about your opinion about pick or fingers.. seriously, I have seen enough of this crap. Seriously, why the fuck do you care? You don't know him, he's not the bassist in a your band, and it sounds awesome. So why the fuck does it matter? I use my fingers and pick. Doesn't matter about which one to use, as long as it sounds good!

  • Dude, I was just saying that I use my fingers more often than pick. but i do use both. and i never said it didn't sound good. It sounds fucking amazing.

some prefer pick, others fingers. no biggie

  • Sorry it's just that I've seen this argument in the comments of this video for the last two years, and it's kind of ridiculous. Sorry if I kind of flipped out it just, god, it's not a big deal, like I said earlier, whatever sounds best should be used, hell, even if it's slapping a non-slap song, as long as it sounds like the real thing.

  • It's all cool.

I agree with the "slapping on a non-slap song" thing. I like slapping when playing killing in the name of. makes it sounds cool. don't know if he does slap on that song but it sounds really good that way.

  • haha, thats what i said

  • but heavy or low?

  • ibanez?

  • o.o Amazing!

  • Dude would you recommend a beginner bassist to take lessons or learn himself?

  • learn yourself, so much more rewarding

  • i think picking a bass u will get less respect

cliff go talot of respect for his speed with his fingers ican play this song fine with my fingers iudnerstand that some people cant move as fast

but dude cmon ucant slap wit ha pick

  • nice one dude!

  • dude excelent cover!

i have a question... what pick do you use to play the bass?

  • i prefer to play with a dunlop

  • lol Any pick I have to hand. Probably a clayton USA, forgot what mm

  • u sorta look like Kirk Hammet

  • sick

  • ehm...can u tell me how much time u play bass?and generaly guitar...i play bass two months now and for me was a bit difficult but i learned it cuz i saw the technique from u:)

  • i didnt make this video but i play for like 8 hours a day but i think people only need to play for maybe 45 minutes every day

  • I play bass almost everyday, at varying times but i'd say around atleast 1 hour to maybe 4 or 5 per day

  • I haven't watched/commented on this video in like a year lol. And people are STILL complaining about Fingers vs. Pick. IT'S BEEN LIKE A YEAR SINCE I'VE BEEN HERE. WTF is wrong with you people. Stop fucking arguing about a retarded "problem" as you call it. It's whatever sounds best for the situation. Leave it at that! Seriously, god dammit... a year...

  • nice! :D

  • Nice Im gonna play Bass soon =]

  • I want a honest answer. why is everyone anti pick for bass? i want good reasons, not "because, err, they the guitar and stuff" which is what i get everywhere else. i want an intelligent reason why people dont like it when other people use a pick for bass.

  • because it doesnt sound as good.

  • well, for some songs, i agree. But what about songs like my friend of Misery, and other post Cliff songs? they use the extra punch a pick delivers to add to the song.

  • i use both, but i think the reason people don't like picks is because finger bass gives you a fat sound, and people don't like the treble the pick add, me i think it sounds fine

  • is this complicated to learn?

i want to play bass xD

  • bass or the song?

If you mean bass, no bass is not hard to learn. If you mean the song, it might be difficult to learn for someone who is new to bass

  • yeah the song is kind of difficult, for a new bass player

  • awesome cover !

  • i use both but i prefer the pic when it comes to playing metal and stuff like that...

  • Stop railing on him because he uses a pick.

If you would stop staring at his picking hand for a second, you'll see that he's an amazing bass player. Using a pick does not mean you're less talented, it's simply a preference, and each style offers up a distinctive sound.

I think it sound rather good. =)

  • bass player no guitar ...say no to the pick...use you r finger....from venezuela

  • i use both but find it easier with pick, coz after about 30mins of playing fingers starts pealing lol

  • Picks aren't that easy to use, i play with my fingers because I find it easier and i prefer the tone, playing with a pick is louder and gives you more treble, which is why a lot of rock/metal bassists use picks...

  • i dont use pick either, cliff burton or rob trujillo (dont count jason he is an arse) both do not use picks so it sounds right when playing metllica without a pick, i prefer heavey bass sounds rather than treble,

  • same here... but you can be a good bassplayer with pick aswell, and this guy is ^^

  • i couldnt agree more,

  • Metallica has many different sounds. Jason didnt ALWAYS have a pick.

  • nice fuckin cover bro

  • what kind of bass is that. nice cover

  • Picks. So easy a caveman could do it.

  • i agree 110% geico men : )

  • i agree. great cover though, just loose the pick. (i dont have any finger print left on my index, middle, aand ring fingers on both hands from playing)

  • can you send me tabs?

  • good dude

  • As for the pick/finger debate, it's pointless. People like different techniques. Stop trying to act macho by saying "HAHAHA, only pussies use picks". It's pathetic.

  • sorry bout the two comments my cuz was on my profile since he cant log on into his

  • perfect

  • You should make a video of how to play it

  • nice one.

  • dude, excelent!

  • like the others say picks are for little girls with the fingers give a betters sound

  • then your calling cliff a little girl

  • Cliff didnt use a pick....

And picks are not for little girls... Picks and Fingers give the bass two different sounds, pick sounds better on certain songs, fingers better on others ... seriously

  • cliff was the best and he never use picks, be a man as him dude

  • cliff did use picks.he did to keep up with the accuracy of the speed of the guitar explaing why the bass is fast at times in songs like one and master odf puppets

  • He didn't play on One, you fucking retard.

  • cliff did not use a pick, metallica chose rob to be in the band because he used fingers and it reminded them of cliff thats not the only reason though, they also chose him because of his awesome posture and because he didnt seem to struggle with any of the songs

  • they didnt choose him because he was like cliff.. he just used his fingers and didnt struggle with the song "battery" and they really liked that.

  • You're an insult to Cliff.

  • AMAZING maiden slayer youre a master

  • Well done!!! \m/

  • i really like this cover

  • master of puppets is the greatest album of all time

  • I love how people are defending picks :) A year ago things were different, everyone would bash on bass players using picks :P

  • shut up man...WHAT IS BAD ABOUT USING PICKS???It's just a playing method.Maybe you feel better using your fingers and some people feel better using picks...I mean, what's the difference? If you're good you can do it with any method.Remember old Metallica?Newsted used picks. And I don't think any of you can say that what they did when Jason was with them was low quality music...everything is about how you feel better...especially on bass...and if you argue about that you know nothing about bass...

  • this is excellent. got my first bass today, gonna play it now;)

  • urr good:D

  • Damn. That's a complex bass line. Nice job.

  • Guys i personaly believe that playing bass with a pick is wrong...

i am a bassist and i am playing with my fingers..

but ok, this kid is good anyway

  • I play the bass with my fingers too, I think a pick is more for guitars than basses.

But I still want to be able to play with one so I still play with a pick sometimes.

I think it's easier with your fingers because you can feel the strings, with a pick I sometimes hit the wrong string.

  • I am a bassist and I play with my fingers as well... but only because I like it more. There's more than one style. There are songs so fast that I HAVE to use a pick, but I like the sound of my fingers more than my pick. So I use my fingers. This person likes the sound of a pick more than his fingers, so he uses a pick. That's all there is too it.

  • I agree; I have played bass for ten years and I have played all types of music like slap, blues, funk, metal, etc. It does not matter if you use your fingers or a pick as long as you get to rock out WHO CARES. Lets not forget there have been some bad ass bass players that have used picks...like ummm JASON NEWSTED. He used a pick and could play the same thing Cliff did with his fingers.

  • playing with either gives a different sound, I prefer playing with my fingers, cause I like the sound better, and it's more of a challenge then playing with a pick, considering I've been playing guitar for a long while. I like to challenge myself when it comes to music. But DAMN good job on the cover, pick or no pick. Fucking Bad Ass Song, RIP CLIFF BURTON.

  • Anybody that knows anything about bass knows that it doesn't make you a better bassist if you finger pick. To completely discount someone for using a pick is to prove one's ignorance.

  • Ive been playing speed thrash metal for 24 years and any ignorant person would bitch because of someone using a pick for bass but rather you use one are not but its not how you play its about how much rhythm and how precise you are on your notes this young man has this song nailed, and thats all that matters I know CLiff use his fingers trust me Ive seen him play Live.

  • pretty good.

  • tell,me you idiots, what's bad with playing with a pick?newsted used a pick, and think of all the great stuff he did with metallica...you just have nothing interesting to say,so you just try to convince yourselves that using a pick is for idiots.but you are the idiots.when you'll sing in a band like metallica and come with all that great stuff, then you maybe have the right to say that.go fuck yourselves under the shower... btw,I use a pick too:D

  • i use both. i find it myself pluckin when i go from string to string like with this song. When i play faster stuff i tend to pick. i like plucking more but its good for bassists to know how to do both.

  • Tom fucking Araya uses a pick!

  • he's tha fucking shit! will see him on sunday with the unholy allianc ;D

  • Good but remember metal isn't played with a pick!

  • yes and no.

  • Dude, metal is mostly played with a pick

  • pretty good, five stars

  • dude your bass suck's go fuck yourself

  • Someone's behind you! :D:D

  • nice job i like

  • kickass man, keep it up, and play how you prefer to haha, I'm like the opposite, I dont play with picks even when the song sounds right that way

  • y u r spamming telling to not use his pick??

i am a bass player too and hear thar bass picks are common

play the way u want man

  • it okey to picking...but try to practice fingers bro...your like cliff burton RIP CLIFF

  • no pick dude

  • Thats sweet man good job I play the guitar and i have a video of me playing like 2 minutes of the song check it xD

  • wow

do you know how to play with your little finger if you got short fingers ..it is difficult to play the first 4 riffs verry fast quzz my little finger is to slow

[is it true that you can train the little finger to got more power in it?]

sry for al the questions :D

iff you got tips .. there are always welcome

  • one on top of the other, nothing ever seems to change.

  • dude that sick i need the tabs cus the ones I read aren't accurate

  • good work man. tight

  • nice!

  • i'm having a hard playing the lines in 0:32 because of the open E in the beginning of every line. then i realize that playing with pick will make it easier for me to play that part. but still i dont use a pick :D cliff burton must have had perfect hands coordination and lightning finger speed to be able to do those basslines.

  • On the contrary, I find it easy to do that riff with fingers and can't do without a pick. But i'm useless with picks. If it helps at all I play: E with first finger, hammer on f, B with second finger, E with second finger, hammer F, C with first, E with first, hammer f, Csharp with second and so on.

  • that is what i do exactly, its just that my fingers dont coordinate well in those parts. but i still prefer doing fingerstyle. i am also useless with the pick :s

  • -.-!

  • reall good man

  • you've done bass players proud here

  • Wat eqipment do you use in this vid?

  • dick

  • You know I think a good arguement for bassist using picks are "what about those guitarists who play with fingers?" Are they "bad?" (You know Led Zeppelin played "Stairway to Heaven" with fingers).

Pick away maidenslayer, you're an awesome bassist.

  • love the person in backscene XD

  • awesome!

    nicely done

dude fuck the twats who are complaining about u using a pick!

    rock on!

  • PICKER!!!

  • who cares if u use picks or fingers as long as u do it well...

  • fingers sound better

  • in your oppinion but do you know how hard it is to play this with fingers?

  • actually is easy as fuck... check out my vid (well its an audio) i use fingers and its piss easy...

  • and it ur opinion that its easier

  • Cliff Burton did it! Ha, anyway awesome playing!

  • i know but thats cos hes cliff! also he wrote it and its easier to play something you wrote than someone else riff

  • a w e s o m e!!! dude your struming sounds like finger plucking xD... what bass and amp btw, very nice sound? and ofcourse very good playing ^^

  • i dont say he doesnt have skills but he should play more with fingers

  • Try on the verse instead of alternated picking just down pick instead. Although tbh you should really be using fingers

  • using a pick means youre playing a 4 stringed guitar and doesnt need any particular skills

    in other words its gay

  • well tbh, u seem gay!

if u ask me he seems to have great skill, just coz he plays with a pick shouldnt change that!!!!

    maidenslayer rules !!!!!!!!111

  • the bass god played with fingers so shut up

  • cliff is massivly overated

  • maybe but i think he's much better than

    than newsted or truhillio

he was in metallica in their golden age

after his death metallica stopped being as metal as they were

so why shouldnt he be overated????

  • well each person has their oppinion but i still find jason better, cliff was very talented but i think jason was more suited to metallica. although everyone gets overated if they die young eg. hendrix

anyway lets just leave it there

  • hell no, Jason is overated

  • yeah but he also gets loads of hate and abuse that he just dosnt deserve.

  • lol O.o you have birds..:highfive: haha

  • whoa your not that good man i found it difficult to accept anyone to be outstounded that you can play it with a pick did it take you a long time to neglect your instrument. btw to the people that ask, what is wrong with using a pick the answer is everything, and to the people that kid themselves thinking it gives them a specific sound, dile up the treble and down the bass and refine your technique a little more you should get a better sound.

lose the pick dont be a prick

  • what an asshole

  • WHOA. your awesome man. i found it dificult to learn on the guitar, but i got it down. did it take you a while to learn it?

  • Pretty awesome dude (Y)

  • dude lose the pick

  • youre right

  • Is it true some metal bands mix the bass out of the song?

  • No, they just have it really really low compared to guitar. You see, the more you turn down the bass guitar in a mix, the clearer the kick drum will be. And metalheads like listening to double kicking, so you can see why bass usually doesn't becomes lowest priority.

  • good use of the pinkey finker

  • dude u are damn good..

a better video quality wil make the whole video a good 1

  • I think this is one of the hardest songs to play on bass (Metallica). The form is easy, but too fast (at least for me).

  • yo're better man!(N)

  • Don't use a pick and pluck with your index and middle finger.

  • Whats wrong with using a pick???????????????

  • ive been playing for about a month with no lessons and ive been trying 2 learn to play this song i have trouble on the second riff on the bass i can only pluck by using my thumb to pluck the e string and index for the a any one got any tips onhow to practice that or is playing it over and over my best option

  • Why does Cliff Burton mirror the guitars?

  • to give it that lower frequency and to make it sound more menacing.

  • besides the quality of video this was a kick ass cover dude 5 stars bro

  • (original tempo [tempo in the vid] is 212)

  • playin this song on tempo 190..but not very clean.. it makes a lot of fun to play that song but i still don't get faster/cleaner.

    good job!

  • dude i don't think i will ever be able to play this song....

  • anything is possible if you try. i learned the second riff on the bass in about 2 minutes(not perfect) and ive been playing for about a month now. no lessons

  • i dont care what u use to pick with i preferrably use my fingers but will use a pick sometimes when i cant be arsed :P

  • use your fingers...you play bass not guitar
