I first saw Terminator 2 when I was about 5. I was very smart and understood the plot perfectly even at that age. I grew up mostly watching "smart" TV stuff like History Channel by choice so I was familiar with the videos of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I guess that's why I thought "that was cool" when I saw that scene instead of "HOLY SHIT!" Nuclear war would be a terrible thing to witness, but I guess my exposure to the real thing via TV dulled this scene for me. Still, one of my favorite movies.
Almost 20 years later, this one scene still offers gripping and powerful lessons to humanity. However unlikely, I hope people take those lessons seriously.
Props to James Cameron and the T2 crew for a brilliant movie and storyline.

This is actually in slow mo, it would literally be like 2-3 seconds from where she was standing in proximity to the bomb and you would disinegrate, but the conflagration and skin turning into charcoal is true for those few seconds.
I heard that this scene was about as close to what would happen as they can get. Meaning, what we saw here, is prety much what would happen. So she caught on fire, then we see the whole town being leveled, once the main blast reached that park is when she turned to skeleton,
Again it is slo mo this would take no more then 3 to 5 seconds to happen. There are several things wrong with this scene. First in that proximity to the bomb you wouldn't feel any conflagration for the 3 seconds you are on fire because the heat would melt your nerves away. Nor would you be able to scream.
...then the plus million degree shockwave would incinerate everything in it's path up to approx 100mile radius, depending on the size of the nuke of course. You can be blinded 1000km away from the nuke, is you are gazing straight at it.
basically yes it depends on the distance. Take into account you are at the distance of Sarah Connor. You are in "seeing distance" of the nuke, that is to say you can visibly see the bomb with the naked eye. At that distance, the instant flash of light would blind everyone instantly, followed by the immediate incinerating heat that you can see causing smoke, moments before the shock wave. This heat would progressively get hotter over the course of 7 or 8 seconds, turning everything into charcoal
I would say, she had to be at least a mile or two from the bomb. The bomb went off right in the middle of the skyscrapers. The park had to be a mile or so away.
Right, and the shock wave reached the park at the end of her dream, when you see that mother and son basically being blown apart. but whats interesting is how that fence sarah was holding on to, never melted. She was still holding on to it, even after she turned to skeleton. You would have thought it would have melted.
Might've taken it fractionally longer (a few seconds, maybe?) to melt, as compared with human skin and muscle tissue. Not that I'm saying the rest of the scene is in strict accordance with scientific projection, regardless of that specific point.

This is actually in slow mo, it would literally be like 2-3 seconds from where she was standing in proximity to the bomb and you would disinegrate, but the conflagration and skin turning into charcoal is true for those few seconds.

I heard that this scene was about as close to what would happen as they can get. Meaning, what we saw here, is prety much what would happen. So she caught on fire, then we see the whole town being leveled, once the main blast reached that park is when she turned to skeleton,

Again it is slo mo this would take no more then 3 to 5 seconds to happen. There are several things wrong with this scene. First in that proximity to the bomb you wouldn't feel any conflagration for the 3 seconds you are on fire because the heat would melt your nerves away. Nor would you be able to scream.

...then the plus million degree shockwave would incinerate everything in it's path up to approx 100mile radius, depending on the size of the nuke of course. You can be blinded 1000km away from the nuke, is you are gazing straight at it.

basically yes it depends on the distance. Take into account you are at the distance of Sarah Connor. You are in "seeing distance" of the nuke, that is to say you can visibly see the bomb with the naked eye. At that distance, the instant flash of light would blind everyone instantly, followed by the immediate incinerating heat that you can see causing smoke, moments before the shock wave. This heat would progressively get hotter over the course of 7 or 8 seconds, turning everything into charcoal

I would say, she had to be at least a mile or two from the bomb. The bomb went off right in the middle of the skyscrapers. The park had to be a mile or so away.

Right, and the shock wave reached the park at the end of her dream, when you see that mother and son basically being blown apart. but whats interesting is how that fence sarah was holding on to, never melted. She was still holding on to it, even after she turned to skeleton. You would have thought it would have melted.

Might've taken it fractionally longer (a few seconds, maybe?) to melt, as compared with human skin and muscle tissue. Not that I'm saying the rest of the scene is in strict accordance with scientific projection, regardless of that specific point.
