I wonder if this was after Mike quit the show? Wikipedia says: Nesmith's last Monkees commitment was a Kool-Aid commercial, in April 1970. With the band's fortunes continuing to fall, Nesmith asked to be released from his contract and had to pay a default: "I had three years left at $150,000 a year" which he had to pay back. Nesmith continued to produce his compositions with the Monkees, withheld many of the songs from the final Monkees' albums, only to release them on post-Monkees solo records.
Thanks. I always thought Noam Pitlik was a good actor. Seems like it was usually in the role of a character actor (such as on the Bob Newhart show). But I think he had a much bigger behind the scenes role in Hollywood (didn't he produce or direct a number of episodes of Taxi?). I know he passed away a few years ago, but not sure when. Anyhow, I saw him on so many television shows over the years (in character actor-type roles). I would have liked to seen him in some bigger roles.
Key: Mike was in the episode for a short period of time, but went to lie down because of "seasickness". Mike was absent from two other episodes because of a tonselectimy (sp?), I believe and there was another reason for a different episode that isn't coming to mind.
i love this episode. i just spent hundreds of dollars on monkees memorabilia on ebay and i purchased the monkees dvds and this is one of my favorite episodes (and its davy's)
My favorite part of this romp is when Davy and the Pirate captain are sword fighting and Davy rips his sleeve and the captain throws down his sword in fustration and then Davy shrugs his shoulder. LOL its so adorable. How can you not laugh. I also love the way that certain point in the song they used to the firing cannons just at that certain point in Daydream Believer. It kind of enhanced the adventure of the romp.
Seriously if you have the DVDs and watch the whole episode you'll see that in the second scene Mike gets seasick. Actually what happens is they get a little seasick and Micky gives them seasick pills. Mike's the last to take one after Davy tells him to "have one" and then he starts to get really woozy and sways around and Davy tells him to "go below" and you don't see him for the rest of the episode except for the performance of Star Collector at the end.
I love this song. I was 4 or 5 when it came out in 1967 I remember going to Woolworth's with my sister to by the 45. And now I'm 45 and its stil one of my favorites. Rest in Peace John Stewart and thanks for this wonderful song.
read this! read this! read this! You will get kissed by the love of your life in 3 days if you copy and paste this on 4 more videos in 20 minutes!!! This is TRUE
OMG Davy sword fighting the Pirate captain( the late Chips Rafferty) is so freakin funny. How can anyone not laugh when Davy rips his sleeve with his sword and the pirate captain throws down his sword in disgust. LOL that's so hysterical.
Davy Jones, is my favourite Monkees. While I said to my daughter I like Davy Jones singing Daydream Believer than Lee Mead (a risig star in UK) singing the same song, she said, Davy Jones in Pirates of the Caribbean? Ouch, that showed my age! Davy Jones to me is never POC!!!
Why would you say such a thing? Its redeeming quality was good, clean entertainment for young children back in the 1960's. That's one HECK of a redeeming quality! Just ask our parents! :)
Ya know what would have been really funny is if they had a continuous gag where they have a girl tied to the mast and each of the boys tries to rescue her and each time she slaps them lol. Yay Davy, Yay Micky and Peter, my heros. Too bad Mike got sea sick lol
ur right, PrincessBlack, this IS Davy's favorite episode, i have it on the DVD titled "The Monkees Our Favorite Episodes" and he says so in the interview. this is one of my fave eps., too! thanx, blackstarkitten!
This isnt from the Monkees Marooned this is fom Hitting the High Seas. I know because not only do I have this on VHS, but Hitting the High Seas is Davy's favorite episode.
