  • love it are you in standard tuning with the fiddle?

  • @spikeduval Yes, we just used standard GDAE tuning.

  • oppps sorry to hear of Emilys concussion.. not good..scary ordeal.. I hope she is fully recovered... ( My son had 3 concussions these past 5 years.. ,he is a 17 year old die hard Hockey kid ...not good..) ok understood of the Cajan Waltz.. thanking you, sure hope you post more of that "home grown" music soon!!! tks

  • Question?? is this one pretty much same as the Cajan Waltz??? lovely job very entertaining.I could not resist but to play along my hohner 2 stop Key of C, with you and your lovely Daughters talent 100 100 !!! From Newfoundland Canada

  • @battlehrfred It is the same tune. On "Cajun Waltz," Emily had just taken a nasty fall on the ski slopes and was suffering from a concussion. So, she forgot the ending and didn't feel like doing it over for a while. I just didn't remove the first one.

  • wow!! from your fan from Newfoundland, Canada superrrrrr job.I love it ty for posting you music !!

  • You've nothing to apologise for, this is a great version. Only a purist would observe that Emily should keep the bow straight. Have you given up playing together?

Aly Bain is from the Shetland Isles

  • Some of the words for ye

Moi, j'ai vu des chandelles allumé.(And I saw devotional candles lit)

    'Y a qu'quechose disait j'aurait pleuré.(And something told me I was going to cry)

  • @bskinti2 Thank you for the translation!!!!!

  • @mrgreer51 the rest of it.

Moi j'ai été cogné-z-a la porte (I knocked again at the door)

quand ils ont rouvert a la porte (and when they opened it)

  • @koolguy343 Yes, we need an accordion all right. We live in Missouri, though, so we're fake Cajuns at best, and there are none of those little accordion players around here.

  • E-c'est "J'ai Passe Devant Ta Porte d'Arriérer" par D.L. Menard?

  • Yes. We learned this song by watching DL Menard, Dewey Balfa, and Aly Bain on YouTube.

  • very good taste in choosing songs, E your smile makes me happy

  • I am feeling mighty cajun right now ---great stuff guys

  • Glad to be of assistance.Acoustic panels doont have to be fancy or expensive-maybe just a sack of corn or a haybale or some cardboard boxes -anything just to absorb some of the harshness and echoes.just mess around a bit til you get a sound you like.Ive checked out some of your other videos too and they are great but also need some help with the acoustics. But I really do love this stuff

  • Excellent , Hve you ever done a version of "Love Bridge Waltz" ? That I would love to hear :O)

  • I have never heard that one. We only know this one because I ran across it on YouTube by DL Menard, and we both liked it. Check out his version. He's the real deal.

  • love you!!!

  • This is a great waltz but let me encourage you to try doing it over with some acoustic panels as it sounds a bit hollow.Even the sound quality doesnt take much away from this beautiful tune though.experiment with the arrangements some too and have fun.love it!

  • Hmmm. I never thought of acoustic panels. That is a good suggestion.

  • Music is so great that it could be ten times as long and still end too soon.

  • you are great with instruments

  • Wonderful Music. You guys should be on Rever or Metacafe and be earining some money from yur videos. I really enjoyed them.

  • I was very disappointed when that DL clip was removed. Thanks for putting the tune back in my head.

  • good music numbers

  • I see the White lightning on the florr behind you! No wonder you sound so relaxed..:) Yeahaa!

  • Hi do you use vabrato at all in your playin?? just wonderin as i am playin it along by ear and i use vabrato but should you or should you not??? great music i love it!!!

  • I would say to search DL Menard and watch the fiddle players who accompany him as he sings this song. They are the real deal. We can only approximate what they do.

  • Thanks for your reply helps alot!!

    :D

  • Everyone has asked where to find the instruments and the video's and how too.

I would like to know where to find a lady with a smile like the lady is this video, like there is no sadness in the world. Tell me where to find a tender young lady playing music with her father as if its a pleasure and not a burden. Tell me where a to find a lady who seems to love a music lost in time.. tell me where oh where have these woman gone?

Keep up the nice music videos they really life my spirits.

  • another great one. need more!! post more!! it is truly great.

  • where can i find more of this music??

    =D

  • Try searching for DL Menard, Dewey Balfa, Doug Kershaw, Zydeco, or just Cajun.

  • beauthifull songs!!

I'm really far away from you and i don't know why these song are great to me..

    great job!!

    greettings!!

  • I sang this song hundreds of times as a child and pretty much knew what the words meant, but here's some lyrics I found on the Web: (French) J'ai passé devant ta porte, J'ai crié, 'bye-bye, la belle.' 'Y a personne qui m'a répondu! Oh yé yaille! Mon coeur fait mal. (English) I passed outside your door. I cried, my baby's gone But no one answered me 0h, it hurts! My heart hurts
  • This is everything I always loved about family. Sometimes we get so caught up we forget were we came from. Don't thank me, I thank you music lover.

  • Great family music! And I like those jugs of moonshine on the left hand side of the screen.

  • Hi from Australia, I play Scottish reels on accordion, my father played the fiddle, he would have loved this music, cheers

  • I love a barefoot gal a playin' the fiddle! Bless y'all.

  • Hey, thanks for that info! We don't speak French, so we never knew what the lyrics were about. Knowing that makes the song even better!

  • You two don't speak French!

But you play such awesome cajun!

    I bow before you both.

    You are great.

  • Miss Emily is an excellent fiddler and does an excellent job on J'ai Passe Devant ta Porte--my all time favorite Cajun classic, originally recorded by Cleoma Breaux and Joe Falcon back in the 30's. After Katrina hit, it was played as background music in a documentary about the devastation in southwest Louisiana. Appropriate--being that the song is about someone who returns home from a journey, only to discover that his/her love has passed away.

  • Lovely job on this good song...Miss Emily, you do a fantastic job on that fiddle- no glitches of being off-key. Wonderful job, both of you!

  • Very beautiful song, Great job Banjophil and Miss Emily;)

  • Emily, keep up the good work with your sister and father. If you ever come to The Netherlands let me know.

Henry Surmont from The Netherlands, Europe.

  • Emily, may I ask how you are tuned for this beautiful song? Thanks!

  • It's just standard tuning: GDAE. It's in the key of D. We learned it from a video on YouTube. It's on My Favorites.

  • Thanks Emily, the fiddle has a great tone, I really enjoy you and your dad's video's, keep them comming!

  • Emily, what make fiddle and bow are you using in this video? Beautiful tune very well played!

  • The fiddle is just an old (100 years) fiddle we picked up at a local fiddle shop. No brand name. We got the bow from some mail order place in Vermont, I think. It wasn't expensive, maybe $175 or so.

  • Emily, what make fiddle and bow are you playing in this video? Beautiful tune !

  • if that wont get you on the floor nothing well. great job. thanks.

  • Another well done song, you never stop being good. woo hoo

  • very good

  • great song... but i want emily (the girl playing the violin)
