I am going to disagree with that statement and cite the example of Super Mal ft. Luciana - Bigger than Big. The Bag Raiders remix is infinitely better than the original in my opinion. Now if you mean covers, not remixes, then I would argue that they are only different. I say this since "better" is an opinion, and doesn't really mean anything in reality.

Now look at the cover of Jai Ho the pussycat dolls version over A.R Rahman, they sound a little sexist in that song...
