I have no record of Lord Mountbatten being the Colonel (head of a regiment) of any regiment at any time in his career. He was in the Navy. He was the chief of the defence staff from 59-65 but that was 4 years before the army was on the streets of Northern Ireland. He was a symbol of the British establishment. As a symbol his death served a political end. Probably a good end but maybe not a justified means.

I completely understand, as an Ulsterman who has held the Queen's commission I would be the first to say is Bloody Sunday should have been properly investigated at the time and the gulity punished, for the sake of all concerned. Their uniform is not an excuse for murder. The failure of the govt to see that Bloody Sunday was investigated properly was a massive propoganda victory for the republican cause.
