Chyrons are the lower third titles used on the screen, named for the most popular character generator at the time, Now Dekos have taken over the top spot, but chyrons are still around.
I found a newspaper ad for channel 9 from early 1982, and it didn't have the circle 9; just a bold stand-alone 9 with the ABC logo beside it. The circle 9 I think was first used in either summer-fall of '82.
BTW, I think they kept this set until late '83, when they changed the name of their newscast to "KMBC 9 NEWS".
My source of information came from an old microfilm machine at my library.
I didn't know Dorothy Hamill had a secret identity!

First of all, what are chyrons?
And secondly, I think Susan would look cute if she were able to duck her head under her collar XDDD

Are you sure about those dates?

I'm not sure about the logo; the earliest confirmation I have for the circle 9 is '83.
As for the set, you may be right; I had thought there was a tape around here from '82 on the newer set, but I could certainly be wrong.

This had to be in the early 80s, maybe late 81-early 82. They had a set change in late '82, and weren't using the circle 9 in early '81.
