Man, I have to say, what this show lacked in the budget of "Hullabaloo", it more than made up for in creativity. I really love the camera work and lighting of this number. Has a real tough film noir look. Also, that shot of the guitar in the foreground and the girls in the background during the solo was inspired.
continuing with the equestrian theme, the umbrella should have been a riding crop, and they should have cracked it like a whip when they said "you can't do that".
I saw this performance, actually this SHINDIG show when it aired back in 1965 so its a treat to see this again. I was a kid of 10 then. I remembered all three performances, STOP! , this one, and when they did 8 days a week. I remember my mom commenting how scared she was of Diana's eyes back then how Diana would stretch them and pop them when singing. Of course Maxine Powell stopped her from doing this on TV and live performances. I agree, Flo, Diana, and Mary sounded great!
Love the song Dianas easy delivery is dreamy, but the background rocks. The Supremes always sounded great when Motown kept the mikes turned up on the background.because they had been together since they where kids Mary and Flo always had the best blend on background.
prjr1973, no, TALENT is what got Miss Ross is where she is today. And where is she today you may ask? Miss Ross is playing to a sold out concert in Europe with a 40 piece symphony orchestra backing her. This is where TALENT gets you. The more you accept this fact, you'll fee much better about yourself.
Europe is much more accepting of "past their prime" American artists that we are in this country. You notice that Diane isn't performing to sold out concerts with a 40 piece orchestra in THIS country? In the US, she is forced to play much smaller venues. If she is in a larger venue it's near the cities that have the larger gay populations. Diane is just a classy "oldies" act keeping the legendary SUPREMES in the public memory.
kurtsupreme . . . kurty, kurty, kurty . . . is the Hollywood Bowl a "small venue?" "Keeping the legendary Supremes" in the public memory" . . . at the Bowl, it was Diana's "SOLO" hits that were featured.
is here that mj take the awww

This is a fun song to watch. The tapping of the umbrellas is great, along with the stern looks . Understated, sophisticated and fun!

This is a fun performance that underscores what a class act the original Supremes were in their heyday. Thank you for posting!

Really cute video. It shows some of what was taken away by Motowns Artist Development Program. A more raw, yet well synced performance.
