  • So wonderful. Truly wonderful!

  • this brought tears to my eyes.

  • G_d help us. I love all people, I do not have to love their CHOICES. It is a choice.

  • In Bruges is amazing. Such a funny, suspenseful thriller.

  • the greatest Oscar Speech ever! He is an inspiration

  • Checkout ONE BAD MICE TRAILER

  • God, I have tears in my eyes.. This was so true! Dustin is amazin!

  • God, I have tears in my eyes..

  • this gave me goosebumps.

  • its a great speech, but my country removed his last part of his speech when the academy awards were aired here..

  • This is an amazing speech.. Its such a pity though, when the oscars was aired in my country, they removed the last part of his speech..

  • Big support form Texas!

  • Also, whether you like it or not, it is not an opinion, but a fact: gay people are people too. Search deep down and find the strength to stand up for a minority that is treated with such inhumane cruelty that it is shameful. <33333

  • He grew up where I live. Went to our high school....crazy.....So proud a gay man can accomplish something like this, can be treated equally for once. We're all SO proud of you.

  • Did you know that this guy is gay?

  • @NirvanaFan4Life

    NOOOOOOO!!! Really!?

  • @AStopMotionChannel was that sarcasm? o.o

  • @BabyFrozie Yes it was.

  • very touching speech. tina is gorgeous by the way.

  • though the screenplay is obviously far from truth the speech was good

  • "to all of the gay and lesbian kids out there tonight who have been told that they are less than by their churches, or by the government, or by their families, that you are beautiful, wonderful creatures of value, and that no matter what anyone tells you, God does love you and that very soon I promise you, you will have equal rights federally across this great nation of ours"

    beautiful speech///

  • great movie

  • wow very good speech...it was from the heart and dustin your screenplay was very good and sad. you gotta give'em hope...love ya harvey milk !! sean you was brave to play harvey because it was a homosexual role but you are a brilliant actor who was not afraid to take a challenge . respect to you and dustin!

  • now quite long ago he aimed the deep bottom of my heart and making me aware of my fear of being gay, caused by my conservative home and nowaday society

  • His speech is inspiring although I'm an atheist...

  • I agree.

  • happ go luck SUCKED

  • eh, i thought that "In Bruges" or "happy Go Lucky" should have won, it's not that i didn't like milk, in fact it made my top 10 list, but those other two films were better written. i think milk's strenhth was in the acting and directing

  • @elecguitar

I believe it was awarded since the theme was, well, socially stronger

  • No one has ever deserved this award more! So, so, so inspiring!

  • Yeah, Justin didn't deserve this. Gus Van Sant elevated Milk, not a by-the-numbers screenplay.

I tell ya, the Academy can't help but make weird decisions every year. And Sean Penn over Mickey Rourke? Yikes. It's as if they want the backlash.

  • Actually his names Dustin. If your going to hate it at least get the name right

  • @Tubesploitation Yeah Tube- Like YOUR opinion matters.

    go crawl under a crack-whore.

  • @Tubesploitation MY OPINION IS BETTER THAN YOURS. is what you're saying.

it's all subjective. they thought something was the best, you didn't. boo hoo.

  • I cry every time I see this.

  • in the 1970's there was an ignorance about homosexuality which could be understood, but in 2010 there is no excuse for such ignorance & fear, homophobia is defined as based on 'irrational fears' which stems from the fact that homophobes are immature & show a morbid/aversion and fixation to sex,

but God & Gays = Love, for God is not about hate, fear, ignorance.

the acting,, script,, directing,, Sean n James make this a wow Movie, did anyone see Elephant?

  • Black received this Oscar shortly after Obama's election--a heady time. Sadly, no matter your faith in the man, where is the progress?

  • you highlighted the asinine substance of the problem, faith in a man.

  • I couldn't imagine how that must feel to know that people are pressuring your mother not to love or want you anymore and to doubt whether she does .Where's the humanity? What about civil rights?

  • Beautiful truely!!

I'm not religious but I know many gay and lesbian religious people.

They are worthy human beings with good souls.

    such a great speech

  • He is gay and he won one of the most undeserved Oscars in this category.

  • He's 35 and he's great, congrats!

  • He's very young..isn't he?

  • Best speech of the night!

  • Everyone who worked on this film are just wonderful. It's an amazing film.

  • Congrats! Well deserved!

  • This speech was so moving and helped me through some tough times. Thank you Dustin!

  • You just know he practiced this speech in front of the mirror at home.

  • he's probably the most good looking screenwriter i have ever seen

  • @farizzal i second that:P

  • Too cheesy

  • hahaha got to love these americans, even the gays believe in God haha

  • funny that...... cos some gays in the uk believe in God too........

  • I am gay and this is the funniest comment I have ever seen on youtube!

  • in bruges should have won

  • Great speech which was ever so moving while being succinct.

  • In Bruges should have won.

  • No kidding. In Bruges was awesome and wasn't some hash political statement.

  • that's how you give a speech

  • It's so sad when gays believe their house of worship when they hear that they are "less than." It is psychological abuse.

  • Can't take him seriously after those pictures.

  • @bombbasticluva why because he had sex?

  • Such a moving kind speech, it still so hard to believe that a world that has come so far is still persucting ppl for sexual orientation.

And this whole its a choise or your born with, well i dont know enough about it to say, all i know is the only real choice is whether you hide your orientation and you show it proudly.

And beside, some animals have been proven gay, and gays have been around for SO long, look at your history the greeks and romans history is filled with gay art!

  • Mr Black, You lied and said you never read the book, where the boy from Richmond Minnesota was. I am the boy from Minnesota in the Movie MILK. My name is gerard dols and I have a utube story also. Please watch.

  • Too many phones

  • Comment removed

  • I found the boy from Minnesota who was in the movie MILK, his name is gerard dols. Please utube his name and watch. great story.

  • he´s 35 years old? I would say he´s like 20

  • my god tina fey is so hot

  • I cry every time I hear this speech, it is so moving.

  • Me too

  • @xlittlexliz

i thought I was the only one... I couldn't help but cry <3

  • All gay people, everywhere in the world, are among the most persecuted groups of people.. It is beautiful to see someone stand up for this important cause.. No ONE CHOOSES their sexual orientation.. gay people can't force themselves to be anything other than who they are.. they are part of the picture as fellow brothers and sisters.. It's amazing that we having people actually voting AGAINST their rights! The US needs to change, just as it has before, to accept this group of people!

  • Let's stick with the facts: there is not a single empirical study that can validate gay people as being born gay (just as there is no basis to say you will be sexually promiscuous regardless of your orientation) Genetics studies heredity and there is no study that conclusively finds anyone is born "gay."

California voters struck down gay marriage (twice now) and Maine voters most recently banned such an act. I don't care how tearful this "Ricky Schroeder" wannabe is: gay marriage is wrong.

  • Actually, a gay gene WAS discovered. Not only that, but even animals have been seen to be homosexual. It's just nature, no one chooses to be gay.

And either way, years ago somebody was saying marrying a white person if you were black was wrong. How different is it to deny someone of marrying someone else because they're same gender and denying someone of marrying someone else because they are different races?

  • Yes. A gay gene was indeed found. Get with it before you condemn.

  • I feel an overwhelming sadness for you, and others like you. I hope that when you meet you maker and he asks you why you didn't love your brothers and sisters the way you wanted to be loved, you will realize your mistake here. 40 years ago it was illegal for black and white to marry. People like you called it an abomination. Now the product of such a union has yielded the President of the United States.

  • Check your facts. Ther is evidence that people are born gay. Besides no one would choose to be gay the same way no one can CHOOSE to be straight or female/male or black/white. Just because your church says that being gay is wrong doesn't mean that it is.

  • @frtw4428 you really should start reading... it opens your mind you see...

How could you look your child into the eyes and tell him that you do not love him just because he loves a PERSON of the same sex? Fuck the studies, fuck the books... this is about love, who cares if it's male or female?

  • @frtw4428 then why would you have one?

and what's so wrong about it? You can't use religion as your answer, since religion doesn't apply here. Tons of non-religious people get married all the time.

People in other religions also get married.

so any religious reasoning is subjective. I'm guessing you don't know much about it though, seeing as you've already made your 'opinion'.

  • i remember crying when he won this. such an inspirational film and beautiful cause he stands for.

  • I love this man, he deserved the oscar for bringing such an amazing story to those of us who needed it the most.

  • Amazing, love is love and it comes in different forms! =) Equal rights for everyone!!!

  • In Bruges should've won.

  • If your parents were gay, you wouldn't be here

  • if i remember correctly there is such a thing as adoption and surrogates.

  • @heningerzao, well then i'm sure straight families only raise straight children, right?

  • Wow, what rock do you live under? There are lots of gays and lesbians who have children. Happy, well-adjusted, successful, intelligent, and open-minded childresn.

  • Children who might check for typos before they leave comments on websites. :-)

  • I surely wish YOURS were gay :)

  • he is so adorable

  • I wept after watching Milk. Truly a monumental movie. When will America truly believe in her literature that all men are created equal, regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, wealth, sexual orientation. When will we shed the ignorance from our minds and the hatred from our hearts? It shouldn't matter if you're liberal or conservative, Christian or Atheist; the way homosexuals have been treated in this country is shameful. It's about time we stand up for what is right.

  • Well said.

  • As a Christian, I wholeheartedly agree.

  • No one thinks your less than anything. And of course God loves you! But don't get all defensive.

  • i watched this already many times and i still got tears in my eyes listening to this

  • Thanks for helping bring the march for equality to reality Oct. 11 09 Dustin!

  • he's truly amazing! EQUAL RIGHTS FOR EVERYONE!!!

  • omg making me cry

  • I'm not gay and I cried watching this, what a beautifull speech... so touching, so true :)

  • I for one love every homosexual and every heterosexual the same, yet also understand sister wisdom continually cries down every street, cries in every form of entertainment, cries in the pursuit of knowledge and happiness, cries to the low and to the high, cries in the daily routine of what we call life, and yet the real meaning of love is replaced with the meaning of hate.

  • you

  • ROFL,

Homosexuality is on of the most destructive lifestyles on the face of the earth. So much anguish, so much turmoil, so much restlessness, so much pain, and so much confusion. I know this sounds foreign to many of you naive, brainwashed by the slew himself, nincompoops, but it is possible to love the soul and hate any type of force that brings chaos, destruction, and misery to it.

I for one love every homosexual and every heterosexual the same, yet...

  • Ha! Straight men have brought more destruction in this world than any other human.

  • How about no.

  • fuck

  • I remember watching this on tv with my sister my fam had just found out I was gay and told me that it was wrong, and that was it, they never said anything else about it. that night when he won I had a paper to write so I started working on it cuz I didnt want to seam uneasy by it but his speach was so moveing I knew I was gay no matter what anyone said, and I remember geting all worm inside hearing that speach. it felt great to hear that one day I can love who I love and get married!.

  • Such a beautiful speech...

  • i would have tripped when was walking down the aisle. What a q

  • What a beautiful speech!!!!!!!!

  • oh,God..

I cant stop crying! A beautiful man speaking the truth!

Thank you all whi produced this wonderful masterpiece!

  • Gorgeous and insightful speech. Also, Dustin Lance Black - what a handsome and modern name!

  • Gorgeous speech! Dustin Lance Black - what a modern-handsome name!

  • I saw this speach during the oscars, it was very momorable and was one of the reasons why I wanted to watch the film. You do not have to be gay to appreciate the level of emotion in his voice..

  • This was a beautiful speech. It's amazing that this movie won, and such a breakthrough for the GLBT communities.

  • his speech still makes me cry

  • what a moving speech! Love it :)

  • I got to meet him and get his autograph and a picture! He was so nice and had a great sense of humor! I saw him at the Meet in the Middle in my hometown in Fresno Ca! It was a special event! :)

  • Where the hell is Fey and Martin's dialogue before this?

"To write is to live forever."

"The man who wrote that, is dead."

    Good stuff.

  • You can almost feel all the closeted actors in that auditorium fingering their collars and thinking "Lucky bastard".

  • homosexual = heterosexual = bisexual.

Also: Dustin Lance Black has an awesome sense of humor, and tons of wit. ._. "I know, I know, I;m not what you've been expecting, but I left my high heels at home."

    xD

    Wit is love. :3

  • Classic

  • The speech was so beautiful and inspirational. The movie was great, and all the actors in it were magnificent.

  • this is a really beautiful speech, good for him. homophobes need to shut up and go back to the stone age, where they belong.

  • word.

we all known families and little children will be fine - lets just stop the nonsense... please.

  • Great speech. Few moving words.

  • WALL-E should have won.

  • bigJO9z- shut up.

This movie was amazing and Dustin Lance Black was truly deserving of the Oscar.

  • im in tears :')

  • EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL! No one should be discriminated in the 21st century.

  • What a truly inspiring man and movie! Both the movie and the speech brought tears to my eyes! I am so glad that he won !

  • One of the best acceptance speeches I've ever heard. Brought a tear to my eye. Truly inspiring!

  • Yes god loves everyone but homosexuality to god is a abomination and has called it detestable so his point is. my opinion nature spoke its a useless practice that ends badly harvey milk's boyfriend died of complications with aids. Also I don't see its purpose in todays world. And all i seem to hear is if we let homosexual marrisge happen everybody will be happy. Meny cutlures see homosexuality as weak and uselss and unmanly. Also milk sucked because its a politcly correct movie. obama also sucks

  • You really are an asshole. And for god's sake, learn to write properly!

  • Wow, your grammar is horrendous. If utilitarianism as the backbone of your thesis here, it probably isn't a great idea to open with a biblical reference. You basically negated your whole argument.

  • Please keep your opinions to yourself. Jealous much? and Barack Obama tries his hardest to clean up all crap republicans led us into

  • Keep your God damned religion out of the law!!!

  • fuck off, and shove your god shit back into your ass. we'll see you in hell

  • The Bible contains six admonishments to homosexuals and 362 admonishments to heterosexuals. Orientation is not a lifestyle. No one chooses to be born gay and face what they're faced with on a daily basis. God hates hate.

  • tina fey is so hot

  • brings tears to my eys

  • truly inspiring

  • I really cried with tears in my eyes ... He's so sweet and amazing with his wonderful speech . He also gave me hope , and other LGBT people a chance to wait , fight until Supreme Court let us get married in recognition.

  • What a magnificent moment for him! I just met Mr. Black today- so honored!

  • i HAVE A FULLL 90 MIN SCRIPT FOR A CHICK FLICK READY TO GO. ALL I NEED IS FOR SOMEONE TO BUY IT,

    BT

  • I don't think an acceptance speech video from the Oscars is the best place to option a script, personally.

  • gay rights now

  • best oscar speech i've ever heard. it makes me cry every time i watch it. so deep and heart felt.

  • AMAZING speech

  • This guy is seriously an inspiration. He's got such a good head on his shoulders. I agree with everything he said. I thought it said in the bible that God loves everyone. What makes gay people any different? It makes me sick to think of all the gay people out their who aren't allowed to get married and therefore aren't allowed to start a family or experience anything that normal families experience. It makes me want to cry. Why the fuck are we so selfish? Open your eyes America! Open your eyes!

  • such and inspiration :) <3

  • he's amazing, really

  • he fucked the speech up by calling them "creatures".

  • actually "creature" is a term refered to humans, you can see that in a dictionary

  • chokes me up every time I watch it

  • he's from my home town

  • Sexy & talented guy like him's a gay?

    (Sigh) Life's not fair...

Great speech, by the way. I cried.

  • It's amazing what a little HOPE and LOVE can do...it can go such a LONG ways if you just believe in it. Rest in peace Harvey! I think Black's speech that night was one of the best and most inspiring speeches I've ever heard at the Oscars!

  • Love has no gender.

    Love is Love.

  • we need more people like him!

  • Its so unfair that not all people are treated equally. He is so inspiring and brave to stand up like that. I will cry with joy the day that gay people are allowed to wed legally. GO DLB!

  • i cried...he is so inspiring!

  • I just can't stop watch his speech...

  • that made me want to cry.

  • This speech always brings tears to my eyes. I'm not gay, but gay rights is one of the issues closest to my heart, and I don't understand why anyone would not let two adult people who love each other get married, no matter what their gender.

Why is the love between people of opposite gender more acceptable in some people's eyes than the love of two people of the same gender?

  • So awesome.

  • beautiful

  • that is so moving. What a beautiful speech and a beautiful film.

  • This speech was just amazing on so many levels.

  • I am 15 years old and I am also gay! This speech was soooo fantastic!!!! I know everything about Harvey Milk!!!! Thank you Harvey and thank you Dustin Lance Black for this great great movie!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this speech.

It made me cry, but he's awesome.

I wish more people were like him.

  • this was a beautiful speech. I'm proud to live in San Francisco, a city that has saved lives and brought about men like Harvey Milk, Gavin Newsom, Cleve Jones, and Dustin Lance Black.

  • Maybe notsomuch with Gavin Newsom, but yeah. I agree.

  • Is amazing how simple and how beatifully honest this speech was. Brings tears to my eyes everytime.

We need more people like him, no movies that mock gay people like the movie Bruno.

  • Bruno is not making fun of gay people. Do you honestly think the liberal NBC and Sacha would make a movie just to mock gay people, you haven't even seen it yet.

"Bruno" is Just like "Borat" complete satire.
