@fearmeufool I just received if answer. Sorry, my internet has not been working. I am glad he knew why!!! Well I do believe NASA could afford 16 bit telemetry...LOL don't you? They can hide many things with the 8 bit. ;-)

I wish it could've been in color, but since these are pictures from another planet, I certainly won't complain about it or look this gift horse in the mouth.

@tamiea7 better answer... he said "Lower telemetry rate B&W requires only 8 bits whereas colour 16 bits.

Higher resolution available.
The best way to do colour is to to have a B&W camera and put a filter wheel in front of it.
