  • Miles, You are showing your ignorance and dislike for toyota. The birfield joint is just one type of CV joint. It was NOT invented nor renamed by Toyota. Birfield Ltd. can take credit for that. Goto Wikipedia and search " GKN " then read the paragraph 1966-2000. Thanks for your show of intelligence and character. :I

  • congratulations Toyota renamed the already existing cv joint to take credit for something they didn't do

  • this looks like the innershaft turns in the opposite direction than the bierfield cage turns! lol!

  • @ka4172 It's a frame rate thing. The model and assembly is fine.

  • YZ, I don't think the Rzeppa would be any more difficult then this joint. The geometry is different but the principles are close. Have you posted any animations?

  • I'd love to know how to cut the IR and OR grooves of a Rzeppa CV joint and animate that. Nice animation!

  • I guess a person can't post a web address on youtube. sorry for the weird replys.

  • solidworker com

  • has some great "real world" tutorials.

Good luck and be sure to post the video when your done.

  • It will take some "playing" to get what you want. Keep in mind your geometry HAS to be correct so it can pivot on it's center.

  • I mated the balls to paths and mated planes to get it to act "natural". I made my own planes (2 of them).

  • I used one "unseen" / hidden piece to hold the one shaft. Other than that it is all in the mates.

  • Why can't I post?

  • Hey, how did you get that to work? I've been trying to animate CV joints correctly for months with no luck using solidworks.

  • but what does it do?

  • @junglemonkeysex It takes the place of the axle U-joint used in most domestic steering axles. Toyota plugged these birfield joints in the solid axle 4x4's for many years. Benefits were a sharper turning radius and a fully sealed, maintenance free operation. They will last forever in stock trucks, but after lockers, lower gearing, and huge rubber, they prove to be the weak link (see my "project trail toy 2 of 2" vid). The aftermarket is flooded with upgrades that are a "must" for trail duty!
