what a douche..I am not surprised he put all the weight back, I bet near 100% of the people on this lame show have all gotten the same size or bigger cause when you put weight back on you always end up bigger
The Biggest Loser show only focus on weight loss. They'll show people exercising or competing in a challenge, but how many time have they show the people eating? Why can't every show, shows the viewers what the contestants are eating for breakfast, lunch and dinner? Could it be, because these people aren't being taught the right way to eat? These contestants probably aren't fed enough food and that's why when they leave they have issues with food.
Loses weight in spotlight, then when he goes home and there are no cameras he pigs out. He'll gain it all back again after the finale, and beg the cable networks to let him have another show.
eric i hope you learn to love yourself and if the ones around you dont love you either big or small then they need to change not you!!! it is time for the 70% of Americans that are over weight to stand up and say NO to the UNreality shows that make money off big people!!!
Erik is doing great! Just checked out a video update from him. He has lost 85lbs. and has another month before the finale. Can't wait to see what he will look like!
@johnnyjohnson I hope he can get to realistic weight and maintain it this time. He probably had the most shocking and inspiring transformation in all the seasons.
I watched the show and his wife blames the biggest loser but how is it there fault when u lose weight just going to the gym for 45 min will help of corse u cut out the gym ur gonna gain it back it s common sense plus the biggest loser just helps u lose it what more can u ask for ... well i hope he can over come his demons i just hope he does it for himself this time around and remembers loseing weight not gonna make him famouse
Also, if you dehydrate, it only pays off one time, so it wouldn't make sense to do it until the end. Each weigh in is relative to your previous weigh in, so if you dehydrate it would help you the first time, but doing it at the next weigh in would not give any further advantage.
We as a culture have to get out of this 'something for nothing' mentality. I am glad erik has decided to do something about it again. That is what it takes. Your health is no one responsibility but your own. Until people step out of their comfort zone and put the burden on their own shoulder, change will not happen.
I totally agree with you. I didn't go from 235lbs. to 180lbs. and from a 44" waist to a 34" waist by sitting on my butt doing nothing waiting for a miracle. The change happened because I changed my eating and exercising habits for the better. The Biggest Loser show helped me lose all that weight by giving me the knowledge, education, and all the other tools I needed to succeed. It's been a while now and I haven't gained any of it back. It's calories in, calories out. That's all there is to it!
If you don't mind having that be your focus 24/7, then you're right. That's all there is to it. I've lost weight and gained it back, partially because of injuries gotten during exercise and partly because I found I hated being the kind of person who obsesses over how much I'm eating and exercising. Yes, it's something I HAVE to do to keep weight off, but it can be absolutely exhausting forcing yourself to keep the mindset.
You can't say something like that is a fact when you have nothing to support that. It seems to me if anything that the contestants are in better health. Their strength is up, cardio up, overall health up, body age down, diabetes medication down, blood pressure medication down. Where is the evidence that says something is wrong? Everyone likes to find the bad in things, and that is what you are doing here.Because a few contestants chose to get lazy people blame the show. That is crap
And when you say that losing 30 lbs a week is bad, you have to back that up with science. You can't just say it is because it is not what we normally see. I agree some of that is probably water loss, but you lose water when you sweat and then you drink water and your cured. Fighters do it and then go 12 rounds of intense cardio. You show me some lab work that shows the contestants bloodwork and something being off that was not already and then you can make a statement like that
I am in shape but that doesnt mean I dont work to stay this way. As a matter of fact I just got done running in 20F weather. I dont have a treadmill, and my shop in my back is my where my gym is. I have no heater and no air. I have a million reasons not to go work out but I still do. NO EXCUSES are going to keep me in shape. You have to do it for your self. We are too comfortable of a country and think we just deserve everything to be handed to us. Quit blaming everyone else and do for yourself
I agree that the things your saying are bad, but the trainers don't advise them to dehydrate themselves. Infact they do the opposite. Now as for if they gain the weight back afterwards, that is not the shows fault. It is not The Biggest Losers responsibility to baby sit people after. At some point they have to take personal responsibility just like everyone else. I manage to stay in shape without someone making me. I know people who have lost lots of weight and kept it off. cont...
Polsky411: You're not thinking long-term. This is understandable since most of the audience doesn't want to watch somebody lose 3-5 lbs for 8 weeks and working out an hour a day. TV has to be sensationalized so we get these ppl losing 10+ lbs a week, and doing 8 hr workouts at a time. It is good they come off their medicine but what happens 10-20 years from now? Many of these contestants fail to keep off the weight in their lives. Again, we are only focusing on the show, not what happens after.
Lastly look at professional athletes. Boxers, fighters, football players, etc, these guys workout 4-6 hours a day. That is their job. When you see Bob screaming at someone on the treadmill, that is not what is giong on the full six hours either. That is just what they show us because we dont want to see them breaking. They get the breaks they need. They are urged to hydrate and fuel themselves.
You would not be watching tv, using computer, or driving to go get fast food. You would be working for everything from food, to shelter, to water, to clothes, to farming. Why is it that humans are one of the only animals capable of running miles without stopping for a break?Because we are designed for it.Just because we now have civilization and comforts and an 8 hour work day that does not allow more than an hour workout does not mean that 6 hours is unhealthy.
Also some food for though, 2.5 canned cokes is about that many calories, a little more than a slice of pizza is that, a snack after lunch coupled with a coke for lunch is that. Small choices we make add up quickly.
Following up on my last comment, considering a person of his size probably needs around 2000 cals/day. This means he was eating closer to 3000 cals/day. Assuming he was working out at all and burning some cals that way, he may have been eating more than that
Assuming it took him 3 years to gain 200 lbs, (which if this show was made a few months ago, it was less time than that) here is some math to consider. Roughly 3600 extra calories equals a pound gained. By that it mean 3600 above what you burn by exercise and normal metabloism.200 lbs is 720000 extra cals. in three years that is about 650-700 more than you need each day. That is roughly a whole extra full meal per day for three years. This shows why those extra calories do add up over time
I saw a promo for the documentary and his wife said, "they treat you like a star and then when its over your nothing". The show may have used him but he used the show. At least they were honest about it. He lost weight and on top of it he got half a million. He could have taken that money and met once a month with a trainer and dietician and therapist. But he didn't. Now he blames the show. Grow up. He was 368 pounds before the biggest loser. Who did he blame then? Grow up!
I like the Biggest Loser but it is so unrealistic!!! Who in real life spends hours every day working out! It's a wonder they havent all gained all the weight back!
not ridiculous to me. how do you gain back 200 pounds? i did the same thing. i can tell by your lack of sensitivity you do not have the same problem, and that's great.
Quite the contrary I've been heavy all my life, lost 50 and regained 55 because I stopped my diet and exercise regimen and I have no one to blame but myself. It is logical. There is no great mystery or magic behind why someone loses or gains weight.
That's ridiculous... I how do you gain back 200 lbs... When your clothes stop fitting you need to make a change. You didn't gain back 200 lbs because you lost it so quickly.. you gained it back because you stopped dieting and exercising. You're calorie intake increased and your activity level decreased and you went back into old habits. Just a publicity stunt. I have lost respect for Erik now.
You make it sound so logical, but the addicted brain is not logical at all. we go back to our old habits because we lose weight quickly. if we lose slowly, we give ourselves the time to establish a new way of ilfe. A wise doctor once told me, "The slower you lose the weight, the more likely you are to keep it off." hopefully i will be able to use my past mistakes and experiences to do it better this time. all the best to you.
@dougontheinternet No, actually it was more like 6 months...214 pounds in 6 months is very fast. In fact, I think 214 pounds in a year is probably too fast as well, but don't take it from me, ask a doctor.
@flmansuy My bad, I thought they were at that camp for 3 months and then continued at home for 9 more. I was thinking 17 lbs a month is high but not unmanageable and he would have a whole year to learn good habits, but yeah 6 months at 35 lbs per month is almost dangerous.
That's why its good to lose weight at a steady pace. Work hard and stay dedicated and do it over a period of time. Any doctor will tell you that. It's all about being consistent.
That's what happen when you lose the weight way too fast. That's one thing I don't like about the show. yeah you lose the weight. but your not going to workout that hard once the weight is gone either. It's sad.
The way "Biggest Loser" has its contestants lose weight is utterly unsustainable, and quite frankly, I'm surprised that insane show hasn't killed somebody yet.
@venuspluto67 This is so true it's not even funny. The amount of muscle they lose during the weight loss process is insane. Even their trainers would agree this is insane and it's done for the production value of the television program.
lol, how the fock do you lose 200 pounds only to gain it all back. what a disgrace he is to himself, his family and all his fans he gained from the show. i will not watch, nor do i feel sorry for him. i reckon he ismore content with being a fat arsed then he was in shape. have more pizza or another doughnut, loser.
he gained it back because he didn't have the chefs cooking healthy food for him, the personal trainers yelling at him to get in shape, and the entire day to workout out. He went home and had to face daily stresses like work and family, and had to rely on himself to for healthy foods and a decent workout plan. This show is unrealistic; it provides luxuries that most contestants will not get in the real world. Of course, he should have kept the weight off but it's much harder to do on your own.
@NessaMogan The show shed 200 lbs off of him and put $500,000 in his pocket. He could have hired a personal trainer, he could have order nutrisystem. The show gave him plenty of opportunities that most people who lose it on their own get. I hate it that he got it back, but unless stops blaming this and that for his weight he will never get it off and keep it off. You are in charge of you. There is no one else to blame.
@polsky411 Amazing how differently we saw the show. I thought he did take full responsibility and don't think he was blaming Biggest Loser at all. He was stating the reality of what happens after the celebration goes away. That doesn't mean he is blaming them, he's just trying to figure out who he is. He got sucked into thinking the weight loss defined him. Be a little more compassionate people. We obese people are human, and we don't always make the best choices.
I am sorry about the way my message came off.I was not trying to sound insensitive. However, I was just upset with them saying that after the Biggest loser they were just dropped, like somehow the show is partly to blame. I am a personal trainer and I watch every episode. The show gave him an amazing jump start. They also teach you a lot about nutrition so that when you go home you have some knowledge to work with. Jillian and Bob both however stress to them that it MUST come from within
Polsky411: Yes, he did shed 200 lbs (though in a VERY unhealthy way). I don't know how much of the 500,000 the winners get back, but you are right: he could have sought professional help to control his weight. Most people realize that obesity is mostly a personal responsibility issue, but this show gave him an unrealistic outlook on nutrition and fitness- that he would always have gourmet meals available and countless hours to work out. That just added to his failure to keep off the weight.
@NessaMogan I would like to know why you think that the weight loss was done in an unhealthy way? They were constantly monitored by doctors. They were eating right. At the end of the show most of them can run a marithon. Just because they lose weight faster than is the norm, does not mean it is unhealthy. Was their blood work off? No. Actually many of them come off of medications, for example many of them do not need as much, if any insulin. You tell me what is unhealthy about that?
The weight loss has to be big so the audience won't get bored. So these contestants are losing 7-10+ pounds a week so they won't let their team down. This show had contestants working for several hours (straining the heart) so they would lose weight and a lot of that is water. One contestant lost 30 lbs in ONE week.Even some of the trainers from the show disapprove of the methods the show uses. Jillian has stated in the recent Home Journal she worries about how the show treats the contest.
I think the doctors are there so if anything wrong happens during challenges, the contestants will have immediate medical attention. I guess I am thinking of the contestants in the long run. Sure, they may run marathons right after but being encouraged to lose 10+ lbs a week, work out for countless hrs a day isn't (to me anyway) a healthy way to approach weight loss, especially when the weight loss will slow down eventually. I would like to see a reunion show to see who kept the weight off.
You are still missing it. If they were doing something unhealthy, it would show up in blood work. When your lungs are abused you might expect CO2 levels in the blood to rise. When your kidneys fail you expect to see it in blood work. These people come off of blood pressure medication, come off of diabetes medication. It is not unhealthy. cont...
Before society exist as we know it, where if someone works out an hour a day, we think they are an enthusiast, humans didn't have all the modern comforts we have today. They were hunters, nomads, explorers. Humans beings are endurance creatures. We are designed for more than an hour a day workout. It is only because we now have the 8-hour work day that we consider excercising everyday excessive. If society were never introduced what would you be doing right now.
Have you ever read some of the after-show testimonials from the contestants? Not the ones that go through NBC, but the ones that disclose what really happens behind the scenes? If you did, you would know that many of the contestants dehydrate themselves to lose more weight and do 8 hr workouts, Ali may be one of the few who has kept the weight off but many of the contestants and trainers have spoken openly about how the show can be dangerous for some contestants. I can provide links.
I never said that daily workouts were excessive. Now you are putting words in my mouth. It is not a secret that people are more overweight now but that wasn't my point. My point is that the show throws the contestants into a unrealistic setting (one with comforts they wouldn't have in their daily lives) and the contestants are expected to maintain the weight loss in their daily lives. Even with the testimonials from the contestants/trainers and experts, some ppl will still believe that ...
what a douche..I am not surprised he put all the weight back, I bet near 100% of the people on this lame show have all gotten the same size or bigger cause when you put weight back on you always end up bigger
