David Brinkley, on Bill Clinton's re-election in 1996: "The next four years will be filled with pretty words, and pretty music, and a lot of goddamn nonsense!" This was said while the cameras were rolling.
the whole music doesn't seem to be on the tube.... i think i have on tape somewhere will have to upload one day.. Used to come on at noon in RIchmond, Va. in those days..
The era of Brinkley only really ended for me last week. When Rush Limbaugh refered to "this week" and did not call it "this week without David Brinkley".
Classic and dramatic theme. That's what it was all about -- Sundays from 10:30-11:30 on ABC. And the legendary (and often witty and ironic) David Brinkley. They didn't have to announce "No Spin Zone" they just embodied it.
Reminds me of Sunday mornings returning from Hebrew school as a little kid. I can smell the bagels and lox if you know what lox is, always my family would watch This Week with David Brinkley. It was originally aired later on most ABC stations, not 9-10 am but as late as 1130 am to 1230 pm at one point, circa, 1989-1990.
David Brinkley was a great host and funny! RIP (1920-2003)
