Spengler war irgendwie weit rechts außen. Man könnte auch sagen, von völkischem Gedanken erfasst, den historischen Nationalsozialismus mitvorbereitend. Und wenn es nicht so sein sollte, haben ihn einige falsch interpretiert.

@yokombo Mir wäre neu, dass Spengler irgendwas vorbereitet hätte. Er distanzierte sich von den "unwissenden" Nazis deutlich (z.B. redete er mit Hitler und war enttäuscht) und bedauerte die gesellschaftliche & politische Entwicklung der 30iger Jahre in Deutschland.

Dass Inhalte des Spengler Nachlasses von den Nazis für ihre Zwecke uminterpretiert worden sind, ist ein anderer Sachverhalt.

Falsche Interpretationen gibt es zu Spengler reichlich, wahrscheinlich weil viele gar nicht seine Werke lasen.

@yokombo Ich lese gerade sein Hauptwerk. Das Buch ist anspruchsvoll. Ich schlage viel nach (- stamme aus einer Arbeiterfamilie).

Spengler symphatisierte mit Mossulini. Zur Erklärung fehlen mir leider (noch) die historischen Kenntnisse.

Nur soviel ist mir bekannt. Es kann nicht (- wie manchmal fälschlicherweise angenommen), der italianische Faschismus mit dem deutschen Nationalsozialismus direkt verglichen werden. Dafür ist der geschichtliche und gesellschaftliche Hintergrund zu unterschiedlich.

"Preußentum und Sozialismus"! Ich bin kein Deutscher, aber das Buch ist rührend, wunderschön, es lohnt sich. Dort gibt es auch den Kapitel "Engländer und Preußen", der erklärt, warum anglo-saxonischer Parlamentarismus für alle Völker außerhalb Albions verhängnisvoll ist und nie aufblühen werde. Spengler ist großartig. Grüße aus Bulgarien.

Even as I have begun to challenge some of his political, historical and religious views, this brilliant philosopher of history will always remain one of my greatest mentors as he was to so many brilliant men. But instead of starry-eyed agreement with everything he wrote, we admirers should emulate him in our current intellectual swamp and try to bring out the Oswald Spengler in ourselves.

Not only did Malcolm X cite The Hour of Decision as an influence but having read transcripts of his speeches I'd say the influence would be obvious even if he hadn't cited it. Anyone with eyes can see that class conflict in the Marxist sense is dead, and race-driven conflict in the sense Spengler meant it is what still drives world events today. The leftist academic power structure today often proscribes Spengler because his ideas are a threat to them, which would have made him proud.

No, I don't consider Joe Campbell much of an intellectual. Toynbee began plans for his work before Spengler did and continued it as a sort of critique. Malcolm was not a student of Spengler, he simply read "HotD" when someone handed it to him and stated that he agreed that the world struggle would be based on race rather than class. It was absurd when Spengler said it and it was absurd when Malcolm said it. Don't know anything about the rest and Spengler.

Ok, Joe Campbell...but Ludwig Wittgenstein agreed entirely with Spengler and if he wasn't an intellectual, I don't know who the hell was or is. And i'm not taking about Malcolm as a student of him, he was only inspired in some way. Race in Spengler's philosophy is something different from the way you might misunderstand him. Cultures go through the same life cycles as living organisms, the are born and mature and decline...what's so absurd?
