  • shemp was actually supposed to be in curlys spot but wanted to pursue a career in films so thats why we had curly originally.

  • @SureShotSav Actually, Shemp WAS in Curly's spot in the beginning. He was an original stooge. He left to pursue a solo career. Curly then took Shemp's place and then after Curly had his career-ending stroke, Shemp took Curly's place.

  • I used to have VHS collection of the three stooges with this episode as child, good times.

Shemp isn't as awesome as Curly was, yet my grandfather told me that it was due to Curly dying that they needed a replacement for him which didn't work out very well...

  • Shemp died pretty young also

  • @overcominginertia I didn't realize this, I just checked it out, showed Shemp probably died of heart attack or brain hemorrhage... I might have forgotten or yet didn't know; back then it was difficult to do proper diagnosis with different cancers and causes of death up until they really advanced medicine and technology.

  • @AMDfreak27 The ads are gone now I think. I didn't see any. I certainly am glad to see these.

    Thanks, Drelbcom !

  • this is seriously hulu now

  • There were actually four stooges,

Curly and Shemp ( comic Releifs)

    Larry ( Comeback)

    Moe ( Leading Man)

  • there were 8 different guys

  • Who was the 8th? Ted Healy or Joe Palma (Shemp's fill-in after he died)? There were Moe, Shemp, Larry, Curly, Joe Besser, Curly Joe DaRitas & Emil Sitka who replaced Larry after he had a stroke & was forced to retire from performing on tour w/the stooges.

  • People forget that Shemp came before Curly. Shemp's original stint is often forgotten.

  • What about Joe?

  • Forget him - he sucked butt!!!

  • are any of the stooges still alive

  • no moe was the last alive, he died in '75

  • Correction of the stooges that starred in shorts it was Joe Besser who was the last to live if anyone cares. He passed away in 1988 if I'm not mistaken. He was the unfunniest of stooges from the short yrs.

  • "aw a 50 how that get in here" *throws it away* lol

  • TH Teddy Hoosevelt?

  • "You're wrong, quiz kid!"

    ;-)

  • How about in "Ants in the pantry" Moe asks larry what's the bear trap for...Larry says "you never know when you meeet up with a bear" Moes says "meet my bare hand" and whacks him in the head. Please do not get me started......i watch the same ones I have seen for fifty years, and I go to pieces EVERYTIME I see them, which is a lot...whadda think this place is a joint?

  • Oh yeah, another brilliant one. Their wordplay abilities were just top-notch. Very memorable, very quotable. (If you once get started...)

I was born in the year '84 and they were first introduced to me at a point in my childhood (though then dubbed in German, as I'm from Switzerland, which just can't live up to the real thing in English)...

  • Curly sitting in the hotel costa plenty, after winning the coffin nail cigareete contest swilling down a bottle of champagne and spotting the monkey from the babes next door "Moe, I'm seeing gorillas"....Moe "Don't look at me when you say that"....Curly looking for Joe the monkey in a sleeping womans berth in "pain in the pullman".. woman talking in her sleep "Mother where have you been" Curly.."I'm right here"...don't get me started. Sony put all their stuff on disks, and they are stunning.

  • Actually Curly didn't see the monkey til after he shook up a bottle of champagne & watched it explode then he quickly put his mouth over the bottle's lip & the champagne spewed out his ears. Funny stuff indeed!!

  • OK 468, you busted me on that one. Question; how many shorts was the monkey in? I say just two, the other being "a pain in the pullman". That is one of my favoorites, especially when the giant woman tosses them up in their berth, and when she gets to Moe He says "take it easy with me". What is your favorite scene? Mine is the royal wrestler scene where Moe pulls out a handful of Curly's chest hair.

Check out THREE STOOGES RAVE on my sight, some great video, nice talking to you, good luck

  • Wasn't monkey in a Curly short where they were in wild west. Don't remember short's name. Then there was another one where they were on a train & this drunk guy saw an object that happened to be the monkey's tail (monkey was under Curly's coat) & tried to cut it off w/a pair of scissors. The drunk guy did get a hold of the monkey's tail w/the scissors & monkey clawed Curly's back. Monkey ended up pulling brake cord that stopped the train & the stooges were thrown off. Funny! Which one was that?

  • The train one was "A Pain in the Pullman", the wild west one was "Phony ExpressA", I think, that was the one where the monkey was putting the bullets in the meat grinder and machine gunning the bad guys. You must have a favorite scene, what it is, one day I like the "royal wrestlers" the next day I like when Curly is shaving the ice, today i like when Moe is ripping up the fairway trying to hit a golf ball and the greenskeeper comes up to him and says"whadda doin? chopa, chopa, chopa, and Moe

  • looks at him and says" take it easy, the holes are gettin smaller", or maybe it is when the boys are dumped out of the dog catchers truck and start running around the truck in circles, and Moe stops Curly and asks him "where you going" and Curly answers "I'm running away" Kills me every time. I lose control every time I put the same shorts I have seen a million times, always seems like I see something new everytime. These people did more with less than any other act in history, in my opinion.

  • Two replies on this one.

  • Even though Curly was the best & most popular stooge Shemp wasn't all that bad. It was revealed that behind Curly & Moe that Shemp was 3rd most popular stooge w/stoogeaholics. Too bad Curly only made a cameo in just 1 short from the Shemp era. That was "Hold That Lion" & it's an instant classic. I know most are fond of Curly but you had to be pleased w/what a job Shemp did as a stooge. After all he originally came before Curly & replaced Curly when he had a serious stroke. Worthy replacement.

  • I agree 100%. to me, I think that the Stooges act was a young mans act, I think they were at their best in the early days, as they were able to perform their slapstick almost effort-less-ly, even though it required years and years of work to perfect. No doubt Shemp was also in a class by Himself, a truly gifted comic actor who performed his art to perfection on a daily basis. As we both know, the Stooges are and will remain timeless, I have been a rabid fan for 50 years, and never tire of them.

  • Not to mention he was Moe's brother! The resemblence is definitely there.

  • LMAO @ the hole coming from the sunshine! LMAO

    "Oh, wiseguy ay?"

  • I love Shemp.

  • best stooge imo.

  • great stuff

  • three stooes history 101

in 1925 the beging it was Ted Healy and his stooges they were not called the three stooges untill later. It was Ted Healy,Moe and Shemp then Larry joind a year later.

FOX offerd moe, larry and shemp a contract without healy healy told FOX that they were his employees FOX took back the offer moe larry and shemp left to form there own group they got gigs but healy told the theaters that if they proformed there he would bomb the theaters this scared him

  • scared him he almost left but a pay raise kept him on board healy and the stooges got back together but healy was so abrasiveness shemp left. Moe suggesed his brother curley real name jerry at the time curley had red hair and a handlebar mustache healy said he did not look funny so

  • curley left the room and came back baldand said BOY DO I LOOK CURLY healy liked the name curly

  • well time goes by and ted healy and his stooges do all right but in 1934 the stooges split because of healys drinking and healy dies n 1937 under mysterious circumstances. the same year the name the three stooges is born.

  • during filming ant the short half wits holiday on may 6 1946 curly had a storke and the film was finished without him. so shemp is brought in just as a tempory thing just until curly came back and in one short curly makes a brief cameo as a passenger on a train the only time the four original stooges

  • were together sorry but tired of writing but go to wikipedia for more info

  • sorry about that its this scared shemp that he almost left. sorry but my keys dont work some times lol

  • man the 4 episodes that r on youtube r on my 8 episode dvd set =/ hoping they were other episodes

  • I love that ironing board accident! I was cracking up!

  • Shemp was a replacement for curly who got sick. Joe is worse than shemp you dig?

  • Curly was actually a replacement for Shemp. Then Shemp came back and replaced Curly. shemp is Mo and Curly's brother in real life. I like Shemp. Joe isn't good.

  • I knew curly and moe were brothers. Shemp started out and yeah was replaced. Yeah joe was bad.
