@MrPuddingate There's tons of tutorials out there. As for the casing , it involves drilling and lathing a piece of aluminum. I'd say the threads were the hardest part.
tu peu me dire comment tu a fais ça stp car jai pris une lentille de lescteur CD puis je n'arrive pas a m'en sortir donc pourai tu m'aider a fabriquer mon lazer ?
i have cd burner diode does it burn and how much voltage it needs? coz my last cd burner burner out with circuit at under 3 volts burned ... and does class 1 laser burn? yours class 3? what about class 1 cd burner laser?
it will burn but it's infrared so it's invisible, meaning you won't even try to blink when a reflection goes in your eye so it's really not recommended without goggles. IR protection goggles were about $130 last time I checked. If you don't have goggles stick to visible lasers and common sense.
@stuntboyNRG500 The reason your laser died is because you did not have a driver to regulate the power output and theirfor when your batteries got low the laser wanted more power and created an energy spike so in other terms you are just going to killing laser diodes unless you get a driver
it's strange you just put the batteries on it!! hahaha i did it and my diode is "dead" everyone else says that it needs a circuit a laser driver!!:P LOL
yea, if you the other comments and my replies you will see that I do recommend using a driver otherwise your diode MIGHT die....it won't die for sure, but it might.
My laser is from a dvd rw from a laptop... it lights and its bright as fuck but I cant burn anything.. although it does get warm.. its just a really big blob of red
But are you sure this DVD has the normal diode a burning diode like yours? I oppened and the laser has a lent on the top and it moves lol is that normal??
yea that's normal, it has a lot more optics between the diodes and the final lens. And it most likely contains a pretty powerful red laser diode. Be careful with it.You have to take appart the whole thing and carefully extract the diodes. Then you have to figure out which one is the red one.
While taking apart the dvd I saw the laser with 3 pins.. (the strong one) and with 2xAA I tested the polarity and the laser was fine. (strong light) But then when I remov it carefully from his house and tested the lazer was getting weak !! And finally it stops glowing!!!!
I tested the bateries with a voltimeter, they´re fine.
I´m trying to get a 16x dvd burner because some duds said that the lazer is very strong(240 mw) and I was influenced by kipkay video(laser flash light hack) but looks like this is an old model and they are replacing all of them for 22x dvd burners..Where can I find it??
I dunno exactly what you're saying but you can buy some laser stuff at stonetek . org/shop/ .Also visit laserpointerforums . com for tons more information on anything.
can you help me really i have 32x dvd laser diode,3v battery and lm317 but i dont have the lens where i can get these lens (in dvd burner or in what)???
Anyway, you buy an aixiz module or use the lens from a cheap laser pointer keychain thingy, which is what I did here, but the aixiz module is so much nicer.
I seen the burning end results in the other vid. Does it have to be a DVD laser? Or a burner laser? Can it work the same using a standard cd laser? Regards
Hmm... running with no circuit? no heat sink? nothing at all! i am suprised it lasted as long as it had plus it looks like you are just touching the wires to turn it on and off tis gonna short n burn ya diode out dude...
yea I could but I'm not going to...At least not for free....but there are tons of info and tutorials you can find on google and youtube aswell....but you can message me with any difficulties you run into after trying :)
I don't think this one outputs more than 100mW or so.But with proper current regulation and proper cooling you can get a good 350 to 400mW out of the better ones.
I extracted a diode from a 20x speed DVD burner drive. But I can't make it work, and I used the right polarity and right voltage, so I couldn't burned the diode by accident. So what happned??? I don't know...
Maybe you burnt it when you soldered it, or maybe it died from a static discharge or you didn't remove it gently ebough....or maybe you just took the IR diode, look for another diode and test that one too.
It was only after I made it that I read about current regulation so im just gonna make a new one after I burn out this diode :) But it's been working fine for a month now.Btw the wicked lasers' pulsar is just lens, diode, switch and batteries too and they give it with a 3 month warranty.
yes you can carefully disassemble your drive and remove the diode, then you can use any cheap laser pointer lens to focus it and 2 AA batteries to power it...you get a pretty cheap and powerfull laser :) BUT be very CAREFULL, being so powerfull it's also very DANGEROUS, avoid direct exposure to your eyes and allways wear eye protection goggles even when staring at the dot.
Please create a video on how you made this fine peice of artwork!

you just hook it up to the batteries?
you have no circuit i mean? the diode will die very soon i think

hey, I got a 22x Internal Super Multi DVD Rewriter. Do you think this DVD as a normal laser diode or is an infrared one??? please I NEED TO KNOW!!!!

it most probably has both

Ok. But is it allright to be a DVD REWRITTER? And do i need a circuitboard or I just make direct contact to 2xAA bataries?
andretodopoderoso7 2 years ago
a DVD rewriter is the same thing as a DVD writer or DVD burner. Read the comments below

hey same question i have, did u need to use any resistor capacitor transistor or whatever those stuff are??
dlinkdj 3 years ago
no, just wires and a switch, but it is not recommended.
mrkiky 2 years ago
why don't u recommend that?
dlinkdj 2 years ago
because you're diode might blow, or it might not....like mine.

mrkiky 4 years ago
I assume jerryaltman isn't using a driver.
20x burners have open diodes. They are FAR more sensitive than the already sensitive normal diode. Touching it wrong could have destroyed it.
phazonxl 4 years ago
i didnt use one. and it's still going strong just can't focus it right.
winnipegcraig 4 years ago
Regardless if yours is working without a driver, you should make one soon because you don't want to destroy it.
I will soon make a video on how to make one.
phazonxl 4 years ago
cool ill check that out. i think these 20x diodes take more than 3v
winnipegcraig 4 years ago
ow you'll burn more than one look at my vid

maybe there are 2 laser diode in the dvd writer one invisible and one red.
choose the correct laser

Yon don't use any current regolator? in this way the output is not stable, and the risk to fry the diodes is high!
rachm06 4 years ago
It was only after I made it that I read about current regulation so im just gonna make a new one after I burn out this diode :) But it's been working fine for a month now.Btw the wicked lasers' pulsar is just lens, diode, switch and batteries too and they give it with a 3 month warranty.

How did you do that? How can you remove the laser diode of your DVD-RW drive using 2AA batteries?
kevinblackcrusader 4 years ago
yes you can carefully disassemble your drive and remove the diode, then you can use any cheap laser pointer lens to focus it and 2 AA batteries to power it...you get a pretty cheap and powerfull laser :) BUT be very CAREFULL, being so powerfull it's also very DANGEROUS, avoid direct exposure to your eyes and allways wear eye protection goggles even when staring at the dot.
