This is Super Mario Bros. 2. and it is very hard to beat. This game really made me tensed up big time. The hardest stage for me is World 8-3. That game ate at my lives like cotton candy. Started the game with 128 lives but finished it with only 38. Yeah it is that difficult.

Just now, I finally beat the first nine worlds of SMBTLL without any warps or game overs...using the 128 lives "trick" in the first level. It took me exactly 101 lives. I lost 65 within worlds 1-7, 19 between worlds 8-1 and 8-3, 17 lives on 8-4, and 0 lives in world 9.

For me, the hardest level was 6-4. I easily lost over 20 lives there.

Now I just have to beat worlds A through D...with only 27 lives.

Hello, I just want to say i beat the lost levels about 4 times, but I have never even beaten the original super mario bros. Can you believe that? The reason I think is because you can save after every level in the lost levels, at least in SMB All- Stars. In the original you have so few total lives, and even with warps, level 8-3 with the hammer bros. is impossible. I mean I read on gamefaqs there were 2 year old's LITERALLY who could beat SMB1, and i can't but can beat the lost levels easily!

This level is on super mario deluxe (super players mode) and it is so much more a of a pain in the ass because the jump hang time is lower and it requires much more concentration. i haven't even found any youtube levels of people completing it so far. Either way nice job : ).
