  • funny how they portray gregor as beeing ok in the game you know a guy who is driven by a desire to protect what he loves and respects those who do the same but in the anime he is compleatly insane

  • R.I.P. Random Soldier

  • This scene always gets me. Its so well done. My favorite in t he game, I think :)

  • LOL largo the grandpa XD

  • Why are people arguing about what an otaku is?

  • And poor mister unnamed scout. Here, i'll do you some good-*shoves grenade in his mouth and runs* TAKE COVEEER!

  • @peepeevagi In the anime the guy actually tried to kill them with a grenade.

  • Aww Largo gets it <3

  • I really want to play this game but I wish this game was on more platforms =/

  • 6:30 onwards kinda chocked me up abit.

  • OMG, I bet it was one of the people they shot.

  • i liked the sad scene it shows that even though Alicia and Welkins are solbier that in the feild would be trying to kill that guy but right now they are willing to try and save his life.

  • That was so sad! DX

  • so touching :(

I liked how the general just let them be... ._. and also, it made me think how bad war is - in real life and in this game... Seriously touching.

  • This scene is quite reminiscent of an event from WW1. It shows that even in war at the end of the day their all human beings.

  • It's a very sad scene, and very touching. Though it kinda adds a more human feeling to the enemies you're dealing with in the game. The expansion (only through PSN) does more by letting you play as an Imperial engineer.

  • Youtube arguments are always entertaining to watch.

  • Even though it was an honorable thing to do to let them go but in the long run......

  • i got abit teary eyed man such a good scene

  • :"(

  • You think this is dramatic now? (not saying it isn't) Well, this part was even better in the anime.

  • ironic they feel srry for tht one scout.. a class they usually kill.. sadly.

  • I'm very into rpgs yet I can never get into this game.

  • The scout's death was really tragic. I'm not afraid to say that I shed a tear when he was calling for his mother.

This game sure is effective in relaying its "war is hell" message.

  • Well, except for the fact the villians randomly shoot civilians. Sort of detracts from the message when the enemy is evil instead of just guys doing their job.

  • Fritz is actually a playable character in the Selvaria DLC. Shame they didn't give him voice acting for it.

  • Wow...that part when the scout died was really sad...I actually began crying! Not that crying's a bad thing, but it was just so shocking seeing it in the game...

Great gameplay :) You make me really want to get this game =)

    5 stars.

  • @keith174285396

I know. But it's a wonderful message all the same, ya know?

  • Oh, shut it...... both of you (saledin1 and mahouneko)

We are trying to enjoy this game, not to read your racist comments)

  • The kid doesn't even know how to enjoy this game properly. In fact, the game is as much about racism as it is about war in general. The attitude towards the Darcsen soldiers in the squad is very noticeable. There's also the fact that certain soldiers get debuffed by the mere existence of Darcsen soldiers within their proximity. I'd say that's an annoying thing to have to deal with when you're trying to take down elite Shocktroopers.

  • Well, the education seems to be lost on you then.

  • Wat ever, just don't drag me into your arguments.

  • I won't. The kid might.

  • Largo is a GRANDPA! XD

  • It's ok. Don't be afraid. Mother's right here. Everything's fine...see?

  • a very sad scene. i even thought the imperials were selfish bastards but in the end they are normal as us.

i now have a whole completly opinion of the war

  • Yeah, they even shot the civis in Chapter 1

  • we not all of them so ya

  • Regarding the officer, am I the only one who keeps hearing Capt. Jean Luc Picard of the Enterprise?

  • Wait what about Hans ,poor little pig "sniff"

  • Dude, this is 1935...... so, they are less-likely watch dramas and "love" movies.

  • Well this was a nice chapter it show that empire's soldier is also being a human not just a slaughter machine.

  • i cried a little when

when fritz was crying for his mother

  • When gregor turned up I was thinking: oh cripes..

but then when they started being neutral I felt like crying. Even in war we're all human too T^T

  • Actually, this general isn't Gregor.

This guy is a random lieutenant/general.

  • Is it weird that a "random" combat officer wearing formal ceremonial uniform in the middle of a battle, rather camouflage like the rest of his men?

  • No it's not weird. Have you seen General Gregor (Imperial)?

  • So what's wrong then?

  • No, that officer isn't Gregor (the one seen in this chapter anyway). Gregor is very Machiavellian with his strategies, which is why he is the Demon General.

  • I have, and I'm saying that this officer isn't Gregor. They basically reused his voice for the English dubs. I'm pretty sure that they used a different voice for this officer in the Japanese dub.

And by the way, Gregor wears glasses and has those gold frilly decorations on his shoulders. This officer does not.

  • That's the most BS thing I've read all day. Go watch the anime and troll harder.

  • I'm playing the Japanese "The Best" version of Valkyria Chronicles and that officer is definitely not General Gregor.

    Seriously, troll harder.

  • Oh, I don't know, maybe it's because I'm currently in Hong Kong and I've maybe actually BOUGHT the game?

    Again, troll harder.

  • I have both versions actually. It may seem like a waste of money but the access to Japanese DLC is really worth it in my opinion.

  • I have both versions. I picked up the US version back in December when I was home for Xmas. I'm currently in Hong Kong for school and since the yellow-covered awesomeness of "The Best" version of Valkyria Chronicles showed up over here in Hong Kong, I picked up that one as well and have been playing it on my roommate's PS3.

The "maybe" part was a sarcastic remark to your trolling.

  • I only have 2 versions of the game: "The Best edition" (which is Japan-only), and the USA version which I picked in December. The Japanese soundtracks are exactly the same. The only real gripe I have with the USA version is that the subtitles are occasionally inaccurate.

For example, in skirmish mode, Welkin would say "Squad 7, move out!" The Japanese track actually has him say "Squad 7, attack!"

Do a search for 戦場のヴァルキュリア on YouTube and watch the various vids.

  • See, I WOULD post a picture of my Japanese Valkyria Chronicles but the Youtube comment system doesn't allow URL links of any kind. That said, I don't see any difference between owning the release version and a budget version considering that the game is exactly the same. If you want to talk about Limited Edition packaging, then why don't you try to import it from Japan?

Secondly, I'm not even asking you to watch the gameplay, I'm asking you to LISTEN to the videos.

    Troll harder, seriously.

  • Dood, you're Malaysian and you haven't even played this nor did you understand any of this even when your own cousin has been trying to explain it to you. Why don't you admit to your own epic FAIL and just buy the f-ing game? Hell, you don't even know the current price tag of the game in the US because you never bothered to keep track of it.

Seriously kid, troll HARDER. Yes, I have demoted you from "man" to "kid".

  • You can't even speak proper English FFS. When have I ever mentioned anything about my age? The fact that you're even responding like this only confirms your immaturity.

Secondly, you don't even understand Japanese and you're relying on a TRANSLATED version with rather debatable English dubbing. Go learn some Japanese and learn to appreciate what you've missed by relying on others.

Learn to troll better because you're clearly failing at it.

  • By the way, saledin1, it's not like I don't know where you came up with your screenname but you're already doing a great disservice to the man whose name you've already so hideously maligned.

  • Really? That seems rather questionable for someone claiming to be interested in various Muslim movements.

I'm not expecting you to be a Brit; I'm expecting you to have a certain fluency in English given how fragmented your pathetic country is. Or would you have preferred to speak in Malay/Bahasa?

  • Hmm, YouTube's comment system has been blocking my Japanese inputs, so here goes:

    YOUTUBE の皆さん、この人はとんでもないな野蛮人。そして、このくそガキはまだ親の乳は離れない。先まで言ってる、「LEの戦場のヴァルキュリアに買うまで、俺と話ないで」。御覧なさい、今までにまだ喧嘩ではないか?そのガキ、わたくしの言葉は何の意味が聞いても解らないでしょう?

  • あの下手チンは確実に喧嘩に売ってる。そして、アイツの喧嘩の実力は下手すぎるでしょう?

  • Why would I need to know your cousin's cellphone number? She might be curious as to where you got the block of Japanese text from and eventually force you to cough up this very page.

  • So why don't you go google to see if it is original or not? You obviously didn't understand the message at all. Why don't you go run along and ask your "cousin" in Japan if she understood what I just said.

And by the way, calling me Otaku just for being fluent in multiple languages (Malay/Bahasa included) is rather lame. You're essentially insulting your own cousin, the very person whom you will need to translate the aforementioned text.

  • You don't even know the social connotation of the word. Otaku is a very derogatory term for nerds. You claim to like anime, but it is clear that you don't really like anime at all.

As for the language switch, it's called Microsoft Text Services and Input Languages. Control Panel ==> Regional & Language Options ==> Languages tab ==> Details.

Did you seriously think that I'd need to have 2 separate keyboards?

  • If you really liked anime, you would have understood by now from watching some of the recent titles like "Lucky Star", "Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu", "Chaos;Head", "Genshiken", and "Welcome to the NHK" that being labeled as an "otaku" is a very bad thing.

Hell, just wiki the word "otaku". It even has a section that says "Negativity". My having to explain all this to you isn't just a waste of my time, but also demonstrates your gross ignorance.

  • I'm surprised that you even bothered to watch Akazukin, they completely changed the plot of the story for the anime.

Anyway, if you're looking for humour, you've clearly missed out on Lucky Star. And seriously, go Wiki "otaku". The longer you dilly-dally here by not wiki-ing it yourself, the more you're demonstrating your ignorance.

  • So why haven't you bothered to go watch the titles that I have mentioned? Maybe you would have learned a thing or two about the term "otaku" if you actually did. The fact that you're even telling me to go watch titles that specifically referenced "otaku" when I've already referenced them speaks volumes of your shallow understanding.

  • Comment removed

  • I question your support of terrorist organizations. Everything else is acceptable. The reason being that you are essentially supporting the criminal activity of killing civilians and wanton violence.

And yet, you're still not particularly fluent in English. This is considering the fact that you're relying on a slightly imperfect English translation of a Japanese game. I'll let your cousin lecture you on what you're missing out on and on how you're being so completely immature about this.

  • By the way, resorting to multiple accounts just to down-vote me is a rather trite attempt.

  • So why don't you go and PROVE that I copy/pasted those text about you? You cannot prove it so you're just going around making these baseless accusations because you don't know what I've said in Japanese.

In fact, you didn't even know how to switch the Input Languages up until I mentioned it. You're not only tech-illiterate, you're an outright barbarian, as befits you and your lazy Malay brethren. It's no wonder why the Chinese control your pathetic nation's economy.

  • And which one out of those "millions" is a direct copy/paste of the entire Japanese statements that I've made?

True, and that's why your people will never be looked upon with respect.

You could be dictating to your friend for all I care and it still doesn't change the fact that you didn't know anything about changing your language input settings until today.

  • That is the most retarded bullshit I've had the displeasure of reading. You don't even understand Japanese let alone how to read/write/type it.

    何てふざけたのやつ。自分の決点にまだ認めない。何でかな愚かの自慢的なくず人間がこんなにいっぱいまで?

  • Of course I'm not your friend, you're still an immature brat who doesn't understand the ways of the world. Secondly, you are again attacking me on baseless assumptions. Third, every instance of your whining merely reinforces everyone else's opinion that you're a brat.

  • How someone uses a language is indicative of many things ranging from personality to mental age. That said, it is easy to tell that you've barely graduated high school and therefore still qualify as a kid. Your childish banter and fruitless attempts at haranguing my sexuality is further evidence of your immaturity.

I find it amusing that you're even attempting to probe my gender. Indeed, what next? Are you going to throw some generic reproductive-based insults at me? How mature indeed.

  • Ooh, big word (referring to the use of the word "introverted"). But it's still used incorrectly. Try again.

    And seriously, _a_ "women"? HAHAHAHAHAHA

    Troll, HARDER!

  • Wait, after a couple of weeks of argument.... are you trying to say that YOU ARE A WOMAN?????

  • Is there something to be gained from believing that I may be a woman? >_>

  • Lolita animes in your page.....

  • Gee, congratulations, you only know how to say "I" in two different ways and "wait a sec". Are you insinuating that you're fluent in Japanese now? Because that would be sheer folly of you to do so.

  • Well, thank you.

  • You keep saying "reality check" and yet you're the one who has clearly been down-voted more often. Last I checked, you're the one still in school.

I hear that final exams are coming up. Are you sure that you should be concentrating on trying to irritate me instead of cramming futilely for your exams?

  • Why would I need to cover my tracks at all? Isn't it because people here just don't like you and are silently telling you to go back to your village?

Secondly, what traumatic experience? I thought you said that we're complete strangers? If we are indeed complete strangers, what makes you think you know anything about me when I haven't mentioned anything about myself? Indeed, it is incredibly amusing to watch the BS you pull from out of your arse.

  • Nope, because you know you don't have the both version of the games like you claim......

Complete strangers but by the way you are giving your comment.... it looks like you have more knowledge than me.

But you only use your knowledge sometimes.... like right now.

  • Regarding whether I have both versions, meh, not like you'd believe me after all this. *shrugs*

Regarding the second topic, yes, in your case the action is called "being lectured". If you understand what I've just said and can laugh about it, good for you; you'll be one step closer to being a grown up.

  • This scene is so sad. My eyes teared up a bit, because the scene was so true. Honor among soldiers. Even though your killing each other; you take a step back and realize, you're not killing each other because of hatred or prejudice, but because you're both soldiers doing your duty.

There is also the beautiful portrayal of comaraderie among your squad mates. You live and die together. [quoted by the comment by user idbjoshm below]

  • I agree that this game heavily sanitized what war is really like. But it is suppose to be family friendly game.

Showing how a solider losing his limbs and died screaming for mercy is not very marketable to a wider audience is it?

  • well family friendly for a T game.

  • When you compare this game to other video games about war such as Call of Duty or Fallout, Valkyria Chronicles is a very family friendly game.

  • lol ya but call of duty showed a more darker and harsher reality. Hence the opening with the japanese interogation

  • LARGO IS THE GRANDPA!!! LOL!

  • Rosie is so stuck up sometimes....she needs to get laid...

  • They should have made out in the last part. Lol

  • Honor Among Soldiers. Even though you're killing each other; you take a step back and realize, you're not killing each other because of hate or prejudice, but because you're both soldiers doing your duty.

There is also the beautiful portrayal of camaraderie among your squad mates. You live and die together.

    I cried at this scene.

  • The writing in this story feels so organic. Props to the writers.
