My two and a half year old son just threw my iPhone 4 at the wall then jumped on it with both feet about 4 times. Phone is still in perfect condition. "what a great advert for Otterbox" I thought.. otter boxes are very good.. but asshole6667777 u probably ripped it cause u had invisible shield on it i had the same problem u have to have both front and back shields off and it will fit snuggly hope that helped
Thank you so much. I've been trying to figure out how to open this for over an hour becuase I couldn't find any directions in the box. Finally found your video. :-) When I got it open I found out that the instructions were tucked inside of the case, which no one can get to without knowing how to open it.

An excellent video on how to install. The instructions printed in the box were not clear. A question: with the otterbox installed on the iphone 4s will it fit into most docks? What are people's experiences with docking the otterbox equipped iphone into audio equipment?
@roberttrentguitarist We have heard a mixed response. Some work, others dont. If you have problems, there are companies that make dock extenders that are compatible with our cases. A quick Google search will yield some results for you.
We couldn't figure out how to put the case on my phone with the pictures in the box, but my husband was able to by using this video, and pausing as he went along.

Ridiculous! There doesn't seem to be any silicone wrapping on my case. It's all firmly attached. This is the stupidest product ever! It needs to come with an opener or at least instructions. I see a piece of paper inside the box but cannot get to it (even tried a tweezer but it's wedged in there well). Guess I'll look for another video or take it back to the store and make THEM put it on my phone for me.

@duIIb0y This case doesn't have air bubbles. Otterbox made it so it wouldn't have that problem. I have 2(white & black) and I haven't had that problem so far.

Just got one for the iPhone 4 - fits great. Also, you can really feel the quality of protection. Yet another high recommendation - if you have an iPhone, this is a plain old good product.
I have got a Zagg Invisible Shield protecting every single trace of my White iPhone 4 32GB, and I have got the OtterBox Defender Series Case on top of all of it. 100% protection. I also have one for my 64GB iPod Touch 4G. (OtterBox Defender Series Case with Zagg Invisible shield underneath).

@jeffreynewb The Defender Series case has an integrated screen protector, so using another screen protector is not necessary and is also not recommended as the case is precision fit to your device... using an adhering screen protector may cause fit issues.
@jeffreynewb Honestly, I have the iPhone 4 with the Invisishield and Defender Otterbox both. I was told by numerous Otterbox owners (and have seen first hand) that the screen cover integrated with case bubbles and wear over time and degrades clarity. Dust and lint get between the screen and the care, I suggest both to keep that Retina display looking good :) Not to be rude, but why would you think a thin film on the screen would affect fitment? Hope this helped, Otterbox's are AMAZING!
@OtterBoxTV Umm, yes there is. White holsters are shipped with purple/white and pink/white defenders for the iPhone 4. You must know that. But no white holster for the solid white defender. Silly. Unfortunately some affiliate stores and eBay stores carry knock offs, so we recommend the following when considering a purchase: 1) always buy from a retailer you trust that offers a good return program and 2) if the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is!

@TimothyDeAustria The best way is to take the Defender Series off your phone and clean with gentle soap and water. The screen protector is best cleaned with a microfiber cloth and contact lens thoroughly. When your case has dried completely, you can put it back of for that great OtterBox protection!
@alibabais1 Yes, it is true. The slight differences in the white version effect the fit of our cases and the functionality of your device with our protection on board.
Oddly the hole in the headphone flap is 0.25" off to the left. Everything else lines up perfectly. I checked the packaging it just says for iPhone 4 and doesn't specify the carrier. The Amazon invoice says "for AT&T". Is this how the case is made or did I get a defective one?
@abertonc The hole is actually for the noise cancelling mic which must be left unobstructed in order for your device to function well. The headphone is covered by a port cover which can be pulled up or left in the locked position depending upon whether you are using your headphones or not.
@OtterBoxTV SuperbOne is correct! The hole in the "HEADPHONE" flap on my new iPhone 4 "Defender" case is also WAY off. Actually, you guys punched the hole on the wrong side - pure and simple. However, the flap covers the exposed hole, and keeps any dirt or debris from going down jack hole when it's not in use - which is most of the time! SO IT'S PERFECT!!! DON'T CHANGE IT!!
Great product and thanks for supporting it with this video post. The only way my i4 could be any better protected is if I left it at home, plugged in to the charger. OB Defender was a gift and I was told about this video when I received it. Might consider including reference to this "how to" vid on the packaging as there were no instructions enclosed. Verizon had to add something internally and the original placement of the AT&T buttons had to be moved slightly, so the buttons are slightly off.
They use different hardware for their service, not too detailed, just shedding light on why the phones are different.
And verizon will be eliminating unlimited data usage, I never used one of their USB port wifi devices but it is like buying minutes, and don't know how much data is 5G a month, but I think it will be the same concept.
@nylecrane2k7 Well, right now we are working on options for the Verizon iPhone 4 and haven't seen an iPhone 5...though we have heard the rumors like everyone else has. While I think it is likely we will have a Defender when they get around to the next version, I haven't seen any immediate plans in development, it's just too soon!
@thecityboy781 You sure can. Remove the outer silicon and wash with water and a gentle soap. Once this layer is thoroughly dry, you can put it back on...

@hj961114 Great question. From what we understand, there are just enough differences in the Verizon iPhone that our existing cases will not work for that version. We will be working on cases for the Verizon version and will release as soon after launch as we can, much depends upon when we can get our hands on a device!
With a small file tool and some patience you can file away a tiny bit of the plastic on the frame and it will make the case clear the mute switch completely.
However once you do this I am sure any warranty through Otterbox is immediately voided.
But if you already own this case and go from AT&T to Verizon and don't want to get a new Otterbox.
This is incorrect. I have the verizon iphone and the otter case that was used for the att works fine. There are 2 minor inconvenices, the ringer off/on button doesnt line up completely and the head phones outlet is a bit to the right, everything else fits like a glove.

I used a Power Support anti glare screen shield on my iPhone 3G/Otterbox setup for two years straight without an issue.The anti glare screen will also eliminate the water mark effect some people experience. My iPhone 4 arrived yesterday and my new Otterbox Defender is on the way.I'll be installing the anti glare shield before it put it in the case.These Otterboxes have worked well for me,but the silicone skin will only last about two years.
Just got my defender today after breaking my iphone 4 after having it 2 weeks apple gladly gave me a new one free then went to att picked up my otterbox. My question is should/can i put a screen protector on the iphone before putting it in the defender case
@hondanaiga We do not recommend it. Our cases are precision fit to your device, so adding a layer of screen protection could impede fit or functionality of our Defender Series case. As a side note, some of our customers who have tried this in the past, have found the Defender Series is difficult to remove when used with some screen protectors... so be warned!

@randomrazr It's pretty good case and I haven't had issues with dirt or lint collection. Notice small mark on my phone though even though covered with Defender. May have been weakness in phone glass, a small hard particle that got stuck under case or some other possibility. I've dropped it so far about twice but onto carpet in my room. Overall it's pretty worthwhile.
When will we see an OtterBox Defender or Commuter for the myTouch 4G? I'm not going to take my new myTouch 4G out of my room until I get an OtterBox for it.
1) There have been a slew of recent OtterBox knock offs out there selling at drastically discounted prices... so we recommend making sure it IS an OtterBox.
2) Some states have initiated recent legislative changes so that it is difficult, if not impossible, to enforce Manufacturer's pricing. As a result, some retailers are probably choosing to offer the product at a loss or at very slim margins to increase traffic and sales.
Seeing as our lab chose Otterbox for use in transferring radioactive samples from place to place the iPhone case would be a no-brainer as far as affording some level of protection.
I haven't been let down. My Defender case rocks although I do have to wonder why there's such a huge price differential from store to store. The standard retail costs seems to hover at $49 while other sites sell it for 39.00 and even $29. I picked up the $29 version (with the holster clip.)

Hi there, the hole is not for the jack, there is a port cover for that... but rather to expose the noise-cancelling mic. We found during testing that covering the mic affected the functionality of your phone and left that exposed. Hope that helps, boostedludeh22a4!
Get this... the head phone jack hole doesn't line up on the iPhone 4 case as it does on the 3G/3GS case.. Idk if this is a defect or maybe a change.. I am disappointed with the fact that it even has a hole there.
I was going to say that the hole for the logo really isn't necessary, but... seeing that it has that little window protecting it, I've changed my mind. It reminds me of the scuttle (circular windows) on a ship.
But yea, I fu**ing LOVE the rugged look. That stuff is so good it's sexy. And the touch-screen still works hidden behind that protective screen? Amazing.
The hole isn't in the right spot, which is kind of a HUGE setback. I think it's apart of the whole "waterproofing" part, but it is a letdown for those who don't bring their phone towards poop.

@jeffreynewb The Defender Series case has an integrated screen protector, so using another screen protector is not necessary and is also not recommended as the case is precision fit to your device... using an adhering screen protector may cause fit issues.

@jeffreynewb Honestly, I have the iPhone 4 with the Invisishield and Defender Otterbox both. I was told by numerous Otterbox owners (and have seen first hand) that the screen cover integrated with case bubbles and wear over time and degrades clarity. Dust and lint get between the screen and the care, I suggest both to keep that Retina display looking good :) Not to be rude, but why would you think a thin film on the screen would affect fitment? Hope this helped, Otterbox's are AMAZING!

@OtterBoxTV Umm, yes there is. White holsters are shipped with purple/white and pink/white defenders for the iPhone 4. You must know that. But no white holster for the solid white defender. Silly. Unfortunately some affiliate stores and eBay stores carry knock offs, so we recommend the following when considering a purchase: 1) always buy from a retailer you trust that offers a good return program and 2) if the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is!

I have the otterbox on my iPhone 3G and iPad the defender and it's great one thing Theo is that the iPad one scratches my iPad screen when I take it on and off but lucky j have my screen protecter what you give with it but from that this is an amazing case my dad was anode cause for the n97 you don't do a defender but he's got the over one you do for it but I am getting iPhone 4 and I will get this case it the best case out there

@TimothyDeAustria The best way is to take the Defender Series off your phone and clean with gentle soap and water. The screen protector is best cleaned with a microfiber cloth and contact lens thoroughly. When your case has dried completely, you can put it back of for that great OtterBox protection!

Oddly the hole in the headphone flap is 0.25" off to the left. Everything else lines up perfectly. I checked the packaging it just says for iPhone 4 and doesn't specify the carrier. The Amazon invoice says "for AT&T". Is this how the case is made or did I get a defective one?

@abertonc The hole is actually for the noise cancelling mic which must be left unobstructed in order for your device to function well. The headphone is covered by a port cover which can be pulled up or left in the locked position depending upon whether you are using your headphones or not.

@OtterBoxTV SuperbOne is correct! The hole in the "HEADPHONE" flap on my new iPhone 4 "Defender" case is also WAY off. Actually, you guys punched the hole on the wrong side - pure and simple. However, the flap covers the exposed hole, and keeps any dirt or debris from going down jack hole when it's not in use - which is most of the time! SO IT'S PERFECT!!! DON'T CHANGE IT!!

Great product and thanks for supporting it with this video post. The only way my i4 could be any better protected is if I left it at home, plugged in to the charger. OB Defender was a gift and I was told about this video when I received it. Might consider including reference to this "how to" vid on the packaging as there were no instructions enclosed. Thanks again for an outstanding product...but made in CHINA?...just like my iPhone...disappointing.

Verizon had to add something internally and the original placement of the AT&T buttons had to be moved slightly, so the buttons are slightly off.
They use different hardware for their service, not too detailed, just shedding light on why the phones are different.
And verizon will be eliminating unlimited data usage, I never used one of their USB port wifi devices but it is like buying minutes, and don't know how much data is 5G a month, but I think it will be the same concept.

@nylecrane2k7 Well, right now we are working on options for the Verizon iPhone 4 and haven't seen an iPhone 5...though we have heard the rumors like everyone else has. While I think it is likely we will have a Defender when they get around to the next version, I haven't seen any immediate plans in development, it's just too soon!

@hj961114 Great question. From what we understand, there are just enough differences in the Verizon iPhone that our existing cases will not work for that version. We will be working on cases for the Verizon version and will release as soon after launch as we can, much depends upon when we can get our hands on a device!

With a small file tool and some patience you can file away a tiny bit of the plastic on the frame and it will make the case clear the mute switch completely.
However once you do this I am sure any warranty through Otterbox is immediately voided.
But if you already own this case and go from AT&T to Verizon and don't want to get a new Otterbox.
you can do this instead.

This is incorrect. I have the verizon iphone and the otter case that was used for the att works fine. There are 2 minor inconvenices, the ringer off/on button doesnt line up completely and the head phones outlet is a bit to the right, everything else fits like a glove.

Der Annäherungssensor des iPhone 4 funktioniert nicht mit dem Case, dadurch schaltet sich beim Telefonieren das Display nicht aus. Der Grund liegt vermutlich daran, dass der Annäherungssensor vom Case verdeckt wird und sich bei meinem Iphone rechts neben dem iPhone befindet und nicht oberhalb des Lautsprechers. Wenn ich das Iphone 4 ohne Case verwende, funktioniert der Annäherungssensor einwandfrei.

I used a Power Support anti glare screen shield on my iPhone 3G/Otterbox setup for two years straight without an issue.The anti glare screen will also eliminate the water mark effect some people experience. My iPhone 4 arrived yesterday and my new Otterbox Defender is on the way.I'll be installing the anti glare shield before it put it in the case.These Otterboxes have worked well for me,but the silicone skin will only last about two years.

@hondanaiga We do not recommend it. Our cases are precision fit to your device, so adding a layer of screen protection could impede fit or functionality of our Defender Series case. As a side note, some of our customers who have tried this in the past, have found the Defender Series is difficult to remove when used with some screen protectors... so be warned!

@randomrazr It's pretty good case and I haven't had issues with dirt or lint collection. Notice small mark on my phone though even though covered with Defender. May have been weakness in phone glass, a small hard particle that got stuck under case or some other possibility. I've dropped it so far about twice but onto carpet in my room. Overall it's pretty worthwhile.

Good question, possibly one of two things:
1) There have been a slew of recent OtterBox knock offs out there selling at drastically discounted prices... so we recommend making sure it IS an OtterBox.
2) Some states have initiated recent legislative changes so that it is difficult, if not impossible, to enforce Manufacturer's pricing. As a result, some retailers are probably choosing to offer the product at a loss or at very slim margins to increase traffic and sales.

Seeing as our lab chose Otterbox for use in transferring radioactive samples from place to place the iPhone case would be a no-brainer as far as affording some level of protection.
I haven't been let down. My Defender case rocks although I do have to wonder why there's such a huge price differential from store to store. The standard retail costs seems to hover at $49 while other sites sell it for 39.00 and even $29. I picked up the $29 version (with the holster clip.)

@LeonardoSasuke Internal testing by OtterBox engineers concludes our case acts as a dielectric between the two antennas of the device thus solving the antenna issue experienced by many iPhone 4 users. No loss of signal strength is experienced when using the iPhone 4 in a Defender Series case.

Hi there, the hole is not for the jack, there is a port cover for that... but rather to expose the noise-cancelling mic. We found during testing that covering the mic affected the functionality of your phone and left that exposed. Hope that helps, boostedludeh22a4!

I was going to say that the hole for the logo really isn't necessary, but... seeing that it has that little window protecting it, I've changed my mind. It reminds me of the scuttle (circular windows) on a ship.
But yea, I fu**ing LOVE the rugged look. That stuff is so good it's sexy. And the touch-screen still works hidden behind that protective screen? Amazing.
