Old #10 is smiling in heaven today! Congrats on the Hall of Fame!!! Wish you were here to enjoy it. It would have been one of the most memorable induction speeches EVER - lots of laughing and crying.
Ron Santo was finally elected to baseball's Hall of Fame on Monday, Dec 5th, 2011, chosen by the Veterans Committee nearly a year to the day after the Chicago Cubs third baseman died.
Well deserved. Best 3rd baseman in the NL from 1960 to 1973. Would have been nice if he were still alive though.
i will never forgive the HOF for what they did to ronnie. go ahead and put him in the hall, it will only piss me off more. they snubbed one of baseballs true heroes and that my friends is bullshit,
we'll miss you ron. a true cub, and true ball player.
I was never old enough to see him play, but he is one of my favorites...If everyone in the world had the same kind of passion, perseverance and heart as Ron, this world would be a much better place....R.I.P. Ronnie
@hawksfan2121 I saw him play. He was the dominant NL third baseman of his era and a real dangerous clutch hitter. I'm an old Pirate fan and always dreaded seeing Santo at the plate in a close game. He was very respected by everyone. To see how great he was and realize that he was so ill; it was unreal. Imagine how great he'd have been had he been healthy? He'd have been at least a close second to Mike Schmidt as the best all-round third baseman ever. The HOF has once again blown it.
It won't be the same without you Mr. Santo.. but we all know your going to have a blast drinking a bud outside of Wrigley with Mr Carey and watching the game from the best seats in the house and now you won't miss a game. :) R.I.P Ronny we all are going to miss you terribly.
I bought this for my father for Father's Day. It's awful that he didn't get into the HoF while he was alive. I think that when he does (and he will) that his family refuses the award and tells them to shove it. That ain't right, because all it will prove is that he should have been in there a long time ago and should have been awarded it when he was able to enjoy it. RIP Ronnie. You will be missed.
Rest in peace, Ronnie....you will be missed so much. WGN radio Cubs broadcasts will never be the same. Thank you for your tireless fundraising for diabetes research. Blessings to Ron's family.
Can never listen to a Cubs' radio broadcast the same ever again. Not only us Cubs fans, but baseball fans alike will miss you. Do a heal-click for God, Ronnie, and may your body rest-in-peace.
How tasteless your comment!! Do you really think that in Baseball it isn't DOG EAT DOG every single day. I don't know about now, where even sitting on the bench you're a MILLIONAIRE! But in those days my friend...
I've met MANY players from those days who had to struggle every day. Bringing up such incidents and trying to justify overlooking this great player by the HOF is really a tasteless, lowclass comment!!

Tough luck Ron. Maybe the HOF took into account your actions as a team captain and a teammate. The fact that you destroyed a young man named Don Young after a defensive lapse in the pennant race of `69 or that you were instrumental in running Dick Allen (the best Sox player ever) out of town in your one terrible season on the south side in 1974. I won`t say that you don`t have HOF stats. I`m just saying that your peers on the veterans committee know you better than the stats geeks.
That last statement was harsher than i meant it to be. I really think that the HOF veterans committee are full of shit and act like older immigrants who came to the U.S.A. , got rich and want to keep new immigrants out. I really believe in more players being inducted in to the HOF. Santo , Torre, Kaat , Blyleven, Tiant and my old pal , Dick Allen should be inducted while they are alive to receive the honor, give their speeches and regale us with funny anecdotes. It would be good for baseball.
Ron is one of the classiest guys you'll ever meet. He has battled his entire life & if the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series this year, he will finally have one of his wishes come true in life. This guy truly bleeds Cubbie blue. Great movie about a great ballplayer & human being.
It's clear that the Hall of Fame committee is totally lost on what it takes to be a great baseball player. All they care about is stats. The Hall of Fame will forever be a joke until guys like Santo and Gil Hodges are recognized. They might even be so stupid as to vote in Barry Bonds.
I love Ron Santo! You can also see him wearing yellow helmet, if you check out my video here on youtube. Just enter ORIGINAL LEFT FIELD BLEACHER BUMS.
i am doing him as a topic for a project and i must say, this is my favorite project ever! he is really interesting and i learned about his life and i love doing the project. for once im excited to go to school and keep working on it
I really loved this movie. Also if you look real close you can see me in it too! I was a a orignal Left Field Bleacher Bum back in 1969. You can also see Ron Santo wearing my yellow Bleacher Bum helmet on my Orignal Left Field Bleacher Bums video here on Youtube.

The home team was one player shy,
At the "Field of Dreams" in the sky.
I gave them the word
That I could play third
And "This Old Cub" doesn't lie.

I think that it is so incredibly STUPID that this man is not in the Hall of Fame. A wonder of the Universe.
I love listening to him on the radio as the color announcer with Pat Hughes. He is just like a fan and seems like a wonderful guy to talk to.
