I actually would've enjoyed the movie better in German. English does doesn't cut it for me, in these types of movies...I think it would've been much more intense...

Oh, well, where to start? This movie is a masterpiece! And I think this scene just proves it! I, for one, I love Schindler's List; it moved me to tears more than once. The setting of this scene was wonderful, Ralph's performance was brilliant and the dramatic tension sky-rocketed when he pulled out the second gun. I really wish this scene happened sometime during those times, I really do.
And also, you have to admit: not many movies teach you how to make a hinge!

The gun was only cocked 3 times, first time the the gun was uncocked so no bullet was expelled, second time he cocked it he made the gun unjammed and you can see a bullet clearly fall out. Third time when the other officer was fiddling with the gun the Jew was blocking the view so no bullet can be seen. Then when he pulls out the second gun he does not check to see if the gun has any ammo, so yes you can assume the gun is unloaded. No mistakes here.

Wow this movie is way overrated. First filmed in black and white. intended to create a sense of depression and sadness instead just gave the impression the movie is old and boring. Secondly The actors all spoke English, these jews being from poland, it is not likely that many of them could communicate so easily with the german guards. while the portrayal of Amon Goeth was very good when he spoke English he sounded like Dr. Strangelove. Also Schindler was portrayed horribly.

I happen to believe that God does exist. However, I think it's a dangerous thing to get into the business of saying, "God chose to save this person, but not this other one." That's human arrogance right there. If we choose to believe there is a God, an omnipresent one, we have to assume His way of doing things/thinking is going to be a lot more complicated than ours is. We should leave our own judgements of what decisions are made, or why they are made, out of it.

@STDrepository obviously, you don't know anything about automatic pistols. It doesn't matter if it's been fired. If you manually pull the slide while it's loaded, a live round will eject. Do you think when a pistol is loaded the only way to empty it is to fire it? lol

Wow this movie is way overrated. First filmed in black and white. intended to create a sense of depression and sadness instead just gave the impression the movie is old and boring. Secondly The actors all spoke English, these jews being from poland, it is not likely that many of them could communicate so easily with the german guards. while the portrayal of Amon Goeth was very good when he spoke English he sounded like Dr. Strangelove. Also Schindler was portrayed horribly.

I happen to believe that God does exist. However, I think it's a dangerous thing to get into the business of saying, "God chose to save this person, but not this other one." That's human arrogance right there. If we choose to believe there is a God, an omnipresent one, we have to assume His way of doing things/thinking is going to be a lot more complicated than ours is. We should leave our own judgements of what decisions are made, or why they are made, out of it.

@mco119 Let me clarify, I said there is no way you could explain events like the Holocaust if you believe in that politically correct, New Testament God. You COULD explain it if you believe in the Old Testament God, as that God was all about genocide and mass murder. Obviously the reasons for the Holocaust are little more complex than "it was god's plan!" and there are plenty of history books on the reasons for it's genesis if you'd like to expand your mind a bit.

I still think this event was an act of God. The guns must have been in perfect working condition, yet they wouldn't shoot. Even if it's not truly some act of God, it still doesn't make sense.
As for how this applies to the Holocaust, honestly, I don't know. God was here and there even during this horrific event in history.

Shindler purposely had some of the gun parts made in his factory to purposely not work with others. also, gun jams happen all time, even in the year 2011.

@Collective122 Oh right; later in the movie Schindler mentions to one of his workers that he doesn't want a shell that fires properly, or else he will be upset.....but I don't think the movie specifies that the workers were making ammunition and gun parts in the camps. I assumed that Goeth's P38 was issued to him long prior to this scene and that pocket-pistol was something he took.
As for God' involvement....well, of course it doesn't make sense. That tends to be His nature.
