  • Used to lov this prog back when Britain still had the 'Great' bit at the front. So sad that harmless fun like this is now a threat to our oh so proud and politically correct wan.. er.. leaders. Lets not forget this went both ways and it was always 'Sambo' vs 'White Honky'. Never came to any violence and I am sure my 14 yr old son would love it now although the powers that be have forbidden that in this 'free democratic' country. God help us all in Britain today, and 'I'll have a half!'

  • Nina Baden-Semper is HOT ;)

  • quality, you would never get away with this nowadays

  • 'not bad for wog food......'..............lmbo

  • Eh..Not bad..For wog food!...CLASSIC!!!

  • God this is painful.

Delighted at least one small aspect of our society can said to be improved. Whenever the Daily Mail lament the "good old days" one can point to the demise of a time when things like this were tolerated.

  • brill a spades a spade dont care if its racist its funny

  • YOU CANT REASON WITH A SAMBO

  • these where the good old days before the legal community realised they could make money from racial differences.this show was a step in the right direction in making light of the whold situation.we could laugh at ourselves back then.

  • What a fascinating throwback to a Britain that thought pizza was exotic.

  • I don't believe this programme promotes racism at all. If anything it highlights the stupid nature of racist behaviour.

  • Yams are considered foreign in Britain? It didn't look like yams, though. The yams we have in the US are dark orange or brown.

  • the black woman chopping the mango is hot

  • pork chop and what?? lmao

  • Notice that nobody challenges the fact that Walker calls Smethurst "Whitey", Oh but that's okay though innit?

This series was anti-racist, it shows race ignorance.

  • Bloody Nora! TV networks won't go anywhere near this show these days. That's a shame because it's a brilliant and bitingly accurate insight into race relations in Britain during the seventies. I'm black and I grew up during those times and this show is right on the mark. Perhaps a bit too on the mark for some people.

  • Hysterically funny, classic British comedy.

  • the best advert for integration ever.....great times until the PC fools intervened. Should be on now !!

  • What's a sambo? -- Sorry but It doesn't help watching this when your born 20 years later

  • You can buy the entire DVD series on Amazon. I was very surprised, I thought it was banned !!

    very very funny

  • thank you x

  • the neighbours indian devil

  • A curiosity now, of course, from a cultural perspective but, comedy-wise, it was always second-rate, like most ITV sitcoms of the period. If this is banned, they should also ban Bless This House.

  • I love this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • No worse than All in the Family

  • I was a kid when this stuff was on TV. I can't believe how bad it is - just not very funny at all. I'm assuming some of the reviewers miss not being able to say 's@mbo' and 'w*g' in public but most of us call that progress.

  • 17 million viewers watch this every week, because it was enjoyed by all nationalities. When we were allowed to have a sense of humour. Unfortunately, the tv companies will not let anyome have a sense of houmour, these days. Although the BBC appear to have double standards when they show unfunny programmes like Little Britain (which is actually a load of trash, anyway)! ITV have followed the BBC and also disallow comedy.

  • 16p for a pint,jeez

  • I bought 4 pints from ASDA for £1 recently, that's only 25p 35 years later, the farmers are getting f*cked hard.

  • I bought the dvds, got them before they banned them hee.

  • I wish some cable channel would have the balls to show them again.

  • they banned them and they never will

  • They banned the DVDS.....lol

they are still for sale on amazon....

  • you can still buy them on Amazon - haven't been banned.

  • OH YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!!

    THEY HAVE BANNED THE DVD's.

FUCKING PUSSY LICKING, LEAF EATING, SANDAL WEARING, HIPPIE LEFT-WINGERS.

  • oh you are fucking kidding me.

fucking pussy-licking, leaf eating, sandal wearing, hippie, left wingers.

  • Banned them!? Banned them where?

  • Banned your talking rubbish mate ,the dvds are still for sale all over amazon ,play and bbc website !

  • im not frightened of sambo lmao

  • Interestingly, I feel that way about K. Williams.

  • Nina Baden-Semper was seriously good looking and I love her voice too.

  • INDEED

  • ok it was good and should be repeated but i dnt think it hasnt cause of race i just dnt think any1 has bothered look at little britain and fat fighters especialy with the indian women now tell me u cant get away with it nowa days. u all c wot i mean

  • its patrick from eastenders lol those were the days even tho i weasnt even thought of just wish people could relax a bit more now u cant even smoke in a pub now what can u do its all bollox lol like alf said fucking labour

  • On R2/R4 DVD.

  • unfortunately the racists at the time saw it as reinforcing their arguement!

  • Great classic stuff from a time when the politically correct brigade didn't exist!! I'd wish they'd all fuck off to another planet so we can still laugh at ourselves without feeling 'offended'.. Idiots!

  • Amen! This P.C. bullshit has taken all the fun out of life!

  • I agree, let's start with the Daily Mail readers, bunch of do-gooder twats! :)

  • i dont want yams i want king edwards lol

  • I prefer Joan Booth, lovely smile, lovely eyes. :) Underrated actress, Kate Williams.

  • Barbie Reynolds was such a hottie

  • classic should be shown again on uk gold

unfortunatly its not politically correct so this is the only way we can see this classic programme.

  • this is very funny..... i see the funny side to this ... its supposed to ridicule the arguement of bigotry by laughing at the scenario. it works i thought i would be offended but i'm not ... its funny and quite accurate actually. cos this is how some people feel deep down... even till this day so lets not split hairs.. love thy neighbour is classic buffonery at its finest..... good on ya for posting this....

    now ...

  • people who moan about this are feckin weird, paki, nignog, whitey, nigga, slantyeyes, wogs, its only a name, who gives a shit

  • People who moan about this are idiots.

The whole point of this show and of similar shows like alf garnett was to take the piss out of the white character,Alf garnett was clearly jewish yet ranted and raved about everyone and anything.

    Some people are braindead !!!

  • I have to agree it is certainly totally anti racist, although it is rather laying it on with a trowel too.

It is interesting to actually watch it again though.God knows why it caused such a fuss.

  • is that the guy from eastenders and the thin blue line?

  • yes it is

  • You are missing the whole point of the show! Its not disrespecting blacks! Its taking the piss out of a stupid white racist!

  • Yeah, that nigger always got the upper hand in the end.

  • This shit isn't even fucking funny, man. Whoever supports this crap is far beyond racism, they're just plain fucking stupid.

  • racist stupid thick crap why was it ever made

    should be deleted and burny

  • 16 pence for a pint?????? lol lol for gawd's sake.

  • Japan?? If you want to see real race discrimination you should try living in China mate!

  • Ignoring the obvious racial slant for a second - is it me, or did a couple of the actors fluff their lines as they remembered them?

  • Yes it should be repeated in it's original form and no editing. It was and still is great clean fun that anyone can laugh at. I really am sick and tired of the politically correct arses that run our once great country. If anyone finds it offensive, don't watch it!

  • I am a stinkin nigger. My family come from Cardiff and we have been in the UK since 1788. Cymru am Byth.

  • This sitcom was designed to ridicule racists like you, you arse.

  • Should Love Thy Neighbour be repeated on primetime television today?

  • classic comedy but never gets seen today for some reason lol.

  • I love how how the black guy always wins and makes the white guy look totally dumb lol.

    Im white.

  • lol

  • No 'cos its not very funny. (Although it was supposed to ridicule racism.)

  • Fucking racists....pathetic....laughable in fact.

  • its acting , both races are acting in this

  • yeah I got all three seasons on dvd, I'm no racist, tho - it's just a bit of nostalgia. In any case, the black bloke (Bill) always won against Eddie, so don't know how anyone can find it offensive. It was just meant to show Eddie as a bigot. Mind you, there's plenty of institutionalised racism against white/brit nowadays. Someone once said, the British or English can't laugh at anyone in their own country but they can be laughed at by the others.

  • this is meant to be a sitcom.... you no funny.... not abusive you sad git....

this show was made in the 70's and shows how english people stuggled with the influx of imigrants and has little relevence in this day and age

  • Leaving the racial aspect to one side the writing was both dull and cursory even by 1970s standards. Oh yes and the stereotypical use and exploitation of the central premise was as offensive then as it is today. Only ITV could make such drivel.

  • i just love macaroons

  • lmao patrick wow he still looks the same when he's younger

  • most un p.c a relic from the dark ages of the 70s a time of ignornce and brutaliy.

i fucking love it how the hell did thay get away with it back then?

seeing it now i was a bit shocked by it by todays standard of pc-ness on the tv.

loved phil when he gets terry in the big cooing pot.

P.C has lot to answer for.

  • It was a product of its time , exposing the nasty racist underbelly of British Society. I know things are far from ideal now , but it is a sign that we have moved on to some small degree . I was a child when this was on TV , it was funny for a six year old . It didn't make me racist .

  • themadhatter43 take that bug from out your arse you cunt

  • Hillarious. Reminds me of the good old days before we became the victims of racial prejudice in our own country. How times have changed for the worse. P.S. I love curry, yams and sauerkraut.

  • it's patrick truman sureley...

  • yes it is

  • thought it was matey

  • the mad hatter ,you lack iQ my friend the show was taking the piss out of racsists .FOOL ps its you who are a fucking moran.get a fucking life.wanker

  • Genius!

  • People are quick to say this show is racist..but everyone fails to mention the black guy gave as good as he got and it was always the white guy thatwas made to look the idiot in the end. Why can't people accept it for what it was? A comedy show. Like it or don't like it. Simple really. In a recent TV poll this was voted in the top ten but the TV company refused to listen to public opinion and wouldn't show a clip.Political correctness has a hell of a lot to answer for.

  • NIGNOG!!!! lolz

  • pork chops yummie

  • Eddys wife Joan was in Quadrophenia as Phil Danials mum,was she in anything else?

  • She as been in Eastenders and the young ones.

  • And the big screen version of "On The Buses"!

  • hilairious.why arent shows these days as funny as this?

  • It was an interesting show. Eddie always come off worse in the end. A bit like Alf Garnet, these shows exposed your average racist as the idots they are!

  • This 'show' would never in a million years, get away with that stuff now.

  • i guess they didnt do retakes when they fluffed their lines in the 70's

  • its partick from east enders

  • i can see the series trying to lampoon the ignorance of your average person in the 1970's, taking the piss out of your average bigot...good show, hopefully did more good than harm...shame Jade Goodies mother didn't see it...

  • And of course that's exactly how the average Sun reader will have interpereted it.

  • This show wasn't racist. It was just showing the ignorance of some people at the time. The white guy never hated the black guy. He was prejudice though and thought that he was above him because he was white.

Not racist but not very funny either.

  • why do we live in a nappy land this is not racist when black white whatever do jokes at each other thats what it is comedy other wise they would have not worked on set together in the first place so what does the law really mean its simple jokes are illegal

  • 16 PENCE A BLOODY PINT WTF. lol and a lot of people missed the fact that the white guy takes a lot more shit than the black guy. This was a pure classic till the fecking PC brigade took over.

  • it's called inflation mate

  • not bad for wog food class lol

  • Jack Smedhurst never worked again?

    See Imdb!

by the by it was satire.

  • its then nig nogs

  • The thing is...it's a historical document...this is just a parody of how things really were...but you wonder, where they got the audience from? It must have been canned...And Jack Smedhurst, never worked again in TV...

  • Aaarrrgghhh! Those 70's multicoloured box of tissues - I remember them!!

  • tan bloody tastic

  • oop racism
