Back in the '70's I had asked my mom and dad for an Elton John album for Christmas. Being the frugal man he was (and still is), my dad grabbed an E.J. album from the 'discount bin'. That album was 'Friends'. When I first opened it, I was disappointed because I had never heard of it. It immediately became my favorite, and this song is one that I love. Thanks for the rush of memories :)

Gorgeous little tune w/ a timeless message: we throw this word "friend" around rather promiscuously these days. I've come to realize that, while I have lots of associates and people I know, even people I care about, I really only have a relative handful of "friends" - the word connotes unbreakable loyalty, commitment, determination to love someone no matter what. Sadly, most "friends" (note advisory quotes) stick w/ you - until it's uncomfortable or inconvenient. Thank God for my TRUE friends.

@sjplwc You are right, however I have been blessed to have a best friend for almost 50 years. We grew up next door to each other, at 18 he moved to Texas his dad's job moved him. The older we get the closer we get. There home movies of us all though the years. Little did we know we would help each other though the deaths of our fathers, divorce's, family problems.. I do not know what I would do without Jeff. His mom and dad were second parents to me as mine were to him. We have a TRUE FRIENDSHIP
